Chapter 177 Aiden Reacted
Chapter 178 Aiden Wakes Up
Keira lowered her eyes and stayed silent for a moment before saying softly,
"I'm fine. I want to wait a little longer."
"Wait? Wait for what?" Dashiell frowned.
"Wait for him to wake up? Keira, get a grip! Even if he wakes up, what will that change?
Staying here now, you're torturing yourself and giving him hope he shouldn't have!"
Keira's fingers tightened slightly.
Dashiell's words pierced her heart like needles.
How could she not know?
"I'm not giving him hope." She looked up, meeting Dashiell's eyes calmly.
"When I feel it's enough, I'll leave naturally. Dashiell, please stop trying to convince me."
Dashiell looked at her stubborn expression and felt a wave of helplessness wash over him.
He knew he couldn't get through to her anymore.
She seemed gentle, but deep down she was so stubborn that once she made up her mind, she'd stick to it no matter what.
In the end, he just let out a deep sigh, left her with "take care of yourself," and walked out of the lounge looking dejected.
Their conversation in the outer room had reached Aiden's ears in the inner room.
So she stayed, not because she felt soft-hearted or concerned, not because she had feelings for him.
Just because she felt she owed him her life and wanted to repay him through this care, then leave without any attachment!
But at the thought of her disappearing completely, a strong sense of panic instantly overwhelmed him.
No, he couldn't accept it!
Even if she hated him, he had to keep her by his side!
The monitoring equipment on the hospital bed suddenly let out a sharp, urgent alarm.
Aiden's body also began to convulse unconsciously, his breathing rapid and labored!
"Doctor, quick, Aiden's condition is changing!" The nurse in the outer room heard the alarm and rushed in immediately. Seeing this scene, she turned pale with shock.
Keira and Dashiell, who had rushed back after hearing the noise, also ran in.
Seeing Aiden's suddenly deteriorating condition, they were both startled!
The doctor and emergency team arrived quickly and immediately began emergency treatment on Aiden.
"What happened? Wasn't he fine just now?"
Mira rushed over in a panic after hearing the news. Seeing Aiden in danger again, she grabbed Keira's hand,
"Keira! What did you do to him?
Did you not take proper care of him? Do you hope he dies soon so you can get away?"
Keira felt pain from her grip and was also shaken by this sudden turn of events, unable to speak for a moment.
She looked at Aiden being resuscitated on the bed again, her heart filled with confusion.
She hadn't done anything! How could Aiden's condition suddenly worsen?
Dashiell quickly pulled Mira away. "Mom! Don't talk nonsense.
Keira has been taking care of him devotedly. It's Aiden's condition itself that could relapse."
Mira crouched down, crying, trembling all over, and stopped talking.
Another chaotic round of emergency treatment followed.
Fortunately, this episode came quickly and left quickly, too.
Under the effect of medication, Aiden's vital signs were forcibly stabilized again.
But he fell into an even deeper sleep, weaker than before.
The doctor walked out of the room with a grave expression and instructed,
"Aiden needs absolute quiet now. He can't be stimulated in any way."
Mira nodded repeatedly, but her look toward Keira became even more complicated.
She felt that Keira's presence itself was the biggest stimulus to Aiden.
After this unexpected relapse, the atmosphere in the hospital room became even more oppressive.
Although Mira didn't openly drive Keira away anymore, the wariness and distance in her eyes were obvious.
Keira herself also fell into deep conflict and self-blame.
Had she really done something wrong and stimulated him?
She recalled the scene at that time. She was just drinking water in the lounge and talking to Dashiell for a few moments.
Could he have heard?
If that was true, then her care, far from helping, had actually caused harm.
She became even more silent and cautious, no longer taking the initiative to speak, afraid of causing more problems.
A few days later, on an afternoon with thin sunlight.
Aiden opened his eyes.
This time, he was really awake.
The moment consciousness returned, the first thing he felt was the heaviness of his body and pain everywhere.
Then came the smell of disinfectant and a familiar, clean scent.
He slowly moved his eyeballs, his vision somewhat blurry.
But he still saw that slender figure sitting on a chair by the window, lost in thought.
Sunlight outlined her thin silhouette, making her look so quiet, so distant.
It was Keira.
She was still here.
He wanted to call out to her, but his throat was too dry to make a sound.
And Keira, by the window, seemed to sense something and slowly turned her head.
Their eyes met.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment.
Keira saw that Aiden had really opened his eyes, and her heart jumped.
She stared at him intently, thinking this was a dream.
The two just looked at each other quietly, neither speaking first.
A strange silence filled the air.
Time passed second by second, the silence wrapping them both tightly.
Finally, Keira looked away first. She stood up and, as if waking from a dream, said to the nurse at the door,
"Aiden's awake. Please get the doctor!"
Her voice was full of excitement.
Mira got the news and rushed over immediately.
She rushed to the bedside, wanting to hug Aiden but afraid of hurting him.
She gripped Aiden's hand tightly. "It's good you're awake, it's good you're awake. I knew you were strong. You really scared me to death!"
The attending doctor and nurses rushed over after hearing the news and began examining Aiden.
Mira was gently persuaded aside by the nurse, but she still refused to leave, standing by the bed with her eyes fixed on Aiden without blinking.
Seeing this scene, Keira felt somewhat conflicted.
Mira might be annoying, but her love for Aiden was beyond reproach.
At that moment, her phone vibrated in her pocket. It was Sean's number.
She walked to the window and answered the call, keeping her voice very low. "Sean?"
"Keira, how are things on your end? Going smoothly?" Sean's voice carried concern and a hint of anxiety.
"I'll be done as soon as possible," Keira said simply, her gaze falling on the gray sky outside the window.
Sean was silent for a few seconds, as if thinking about something, then his tone became serious.
"Keira, Ella hasn't been in good spirits these past couple of days.
I can take care of her, but you know she's very attached to you, especially when she's sick."
"Ella's sick?" Keira's heart clenched suddenly, and her breathing stopped.
"Is it serious? What did the doctor say?"
"Don't worry too much. I've already got the best doctor treating her. It's just that Ella misses you a lot and cries every night." Sean comforted her.
"Keira, how much longer do you need on your end?"
"One week at most." Keira bit her lip.
She couldn't delay here any longer.
