Chapter 109 Possessing You
Chapter 109 Possessing You
The heavy click of the front door lock was still echoing in the quiet hallway as Alex pulled Sarah fully against his chest. The domestic, careful boundary they had maintained all evening in front of Mark dissolved instantly. Alex slid his hands down her back, his grip firm and possessive on her hips as he lifted her slightly, forcing her to look up into his dark eyes.
"Alex," Sarah murmured, her hands resting against his broad shoulders. Her voice was slightly out of breath, her heart still racing from the emotional weight of the dinner. "Mark just left. What if he forgot something and comes back?"
"He is not coming back tonight," Alex whispered, his voice deep and completely unyielding. He leaned down, his lips brushing against her jawline, sending a familiar heat rushing straight through her. "And even if he did, he knows exactly who you belong to when we are behind this door."
Sarah let out a soft sigh, her head tilting back as his mouth found the sensitive spot beneath her ear. The lingering stress of the dinner, the awkward silences, and the constant effort to maintain her composed, motherly facade in front of her son all melted away under the dominant weight of his touch. In the office, they were equals. In front of the press, she was the lead architect and he was the supportive foundation director. But here, in the dark hallway of her home, Alex ruled her completely.
He didn't give her room to think or hesitate. He caught her lips in a deep kiss that silenced any remaining doubts in her mind. His hands were strong, anchoring her against him so tightly that she could feel the hard line of his chest and the rapid beat of his heart. Sarah wrapped her arms around his neck, finally surrendering to the desire she had been suppressing all evening.
When he finally pulled back, his dark eyes were burning, looking down at her flushed face. He kept one hand firmly on her waist, while his other hand moved up to cup her cheek, his thumb brushing over her lower lip.
"We are done talking about the project, and we are done worrying about what the city thinks," Alex commanded softly, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Go upstairs. I am going to double-check the back locks and turn off the kitchen lights."
Sarah nodded, her body still tingling from his touch. She gave him a soft, lingering look before turning and walking up the stairs, her heels clicking softly on the wooden steps.
Alex watched her until she disappeared around the landing of the second floor. He took a slow breath, his posture relaxing slightly as he walked back into the dining room. The empty dessert bowls and water glasses were still sitting on the table. He picked up the tray, carried it into the kitchen, and set it in the sink.
He moved with a quiet, efficient confidence. He checked the lock on the back door, turned off the overhead kitchen lights, and walked back into the living room to shut off the lamps. The house grew dark, illuminated only by the faint light of the moon coming through the large windows.
As he walked back toward the stairs, his mind turned to the conversation he had shared with Mark during the dinner. Despite the lingering awkwardness, they had established a mutual respect. Mark was stepping up, handling his own responsibilities, and accepting the reality of the relationship. The major battles with his father, Richard Harrington, were won. The business was secure. The only thing left to do was to protect this quiet sanctuary they had built for themselves.
Alex walked up the stairs, his footsteps completely silent on the carpeted runner. He pushed open the door to Sarah's bedroom.
The room was dim, lit only by the soft glow of the bedside lamps. Sarah had changed out of her dark blue dinner dress. She was sitting on the edge of the mattress, wearing a silk robe that clung to the soft curves of her body. Her blonde hair was down now, falling over her shoulders in loose waves. She looked up as he entered, her blue eyes wide and inviting, carrying a mixture of vulnerability and deep, reckless desire.
Alex closed the door behind him. He did not lock it—there was no need to lock it anymore—but the sound of the latch clicking into place made Sarah's breath hitch.
He stood near the door for a moment, slowly unbuttoning his shirt. He pulled it off, exposing his broad shoulders and muscular chest, before tossing it onto a nearby chair. He walked toward the bed, his presence instantly dominating the room as his shadow fell over her.
"You are still thinking too much," Alex said, stopping right in front of her. He reached down, his fingers gently catching her chin and forcing her to look up at him.
"I am just happy, Alex," Sarah whispered, her hand reaching up to rest against his bare stomach. "Having Mark here, seeing the two of you talk without fighting... I never thought we would get to this point. I was so afraid we would lose him forever."
"I told you I wouldn't let that happen," Alex said, his voice dropping into a low, rough register. "I promised you I would handle the family and the business. Now both are handled. There is nothing left for you to worry about."
He bent down, sliding his hands under her thighs and lifting her up effortlessly. Sarah gasped softly as he shifted her onto the center of the mattress, his heavy body immediately coming down over hers. The cool silk of her robe rubbed against his warm skin, creating a sharp friction that made her squeeze her eyes shut.
Alex pinned her hands beside her head, his grip firm but careful. He looked down at her, his dark eyes consuming her.
"Look at me, Sarah," he commanded.
She opened her eyes, her gaze locking onto his.
"The press can print whatever they want tomorrow, and my father's associates can whisper all they want at the restaurants," Alex told her. "But tonight, in this room, none of them exist. You are my woman, and you are going to forget everything else but me."
"Yes, Alex," Sarah whispered, her voice trembling with surrender. "Make me forget."
Alex smiled, a dark, confident expression, before he leaned down to claim her body once again, sealing the door against the rest of the world.
