Chapter 158
Mia. 

"You don't look happy, "Matt says as soon as I hang up and I sigh sitting up in my bed. 

"Are you happy, Matt?" I ask back and he seems perplexed by my question. Matt glances at my stomach and deeply sighs before running his fingers through his hair. 

" I Just wish things were different" He mutters and I nod walking to my closet. 

"Me too" I came home hours ago and he decided to keep me company. Though I was on the verge of falling asleep before Rico's call.

It's been a while since I was here and I just thought it would be a good idea if I gave Rico some alone time. I know he feels obliged to be with me because I am pregnant and I don't want that. I want him to want me and not because he feels guilty for not being there for me and his baby.

I didn't expect him to call. And of all the excuses I could give, did I have to say I wanted to see Mum? 

I haven't seen her for a while and I don't plan to any time soon. I am scared that she will act bitchy again and I will be tempted to hurt her. So it would be better if I stayed out of her sight. 

"I think some guy was watching me today" Matt breaks through my thoughts and my ears instantly perk up.

"What kind of a guy?" I ask pulling on buggy white sweatpants and a black hoodie. It's already nighttime, so there is no need for me to dress up. I choose white sneakers with socks and walk back to my room where Matt is currently sitting on my bed. 

"I don't know, he had a black cap and black clothes on but he appeared older." 

"Did you inform your guards?" Nikolai told me Ryan is in town and that's why Fabio and some guys are out. They went hunting for him and I have no doubt the man Matt is talking about is him. 

"I was skeptical, Mia. Maybe it was just my mind tricks" I look at the boy sitting beside me and sadly shake my head. If he doesn't understand this world at this point, then he never will.

"If you notice anything out of place just inform your guards, you can't ignore the slightest detail at this point, Matt. We are all in danger until the old man is gone" I explain, feeling so tired and bored. I just want to sleep for a very long time. 

"Must you go? It's a bit late" Matt asks and I glimpse the time on my phone. It's eight and Rico had mentioned they were waiting for me to have dinner. Maybe I should have informed them of my absence earlier. It will seem rude if I don't go. I respect his mum and Carl a lot.

"Do you have enough money? Never mind. Take this" I had prepared a card for him but I never got a chance to give it to him. Walking around with cash is quite a hassle.

"You don't have to, Mia. I can take care of myself now, you know" Matt leaves my hand hanging and I sigh. He told me he started working part-time in a diner but I don't think that will be enough to cover anything. Especially when he has college before him.

"Are you seriously going to argue with a pregnant woman, Matt? Just take the card" I forcefully stuff it in his hands and chuckle when he glares at me. 

"I don't how I will repay you. Thanks a lot, Mia" I dismissively wave at him. 

"Just work hard at school and make sure you follow your career path. I want to see you at the top of the chain in the coming years. Promise me that" I whisper sharing into his tender eyes. They are full of emotions that I don't want to read into. 

"I promise" Matt lowly lets out and suddenly engulfs me in a hug.

 

Rico's house is full of chatter and laughter when we walk in. Today, only Neera and One of Niko's guards accompanied me. In the living room, Rico is holding Kay's baby and his mum is sitting beside him, fondly staring at his son. Kay and her husband are on the seat opposite them whispering to themselves, while Dante and Diego are playing video games. 

They look happy. 

I feel like being here is the same as bringing an enemy into their midst. 

"Oh dear, come here, come, come" Their mother quickly gets up to usher me in when she spots me. Rico instantly passes the baby to his parents and approaches me too. 

"Are you hungry? I made all your favorites, tell me what you want to eat" Rico's mum doesn't give me time to settle, and directly leads me to the dining table where various dishes are already arranged. This gives me a bittersweet feeling. I wish my mother cared this much for me. Even a little. 

"Are you, okay?" Rico appears on my other side and pulls a chair for me. 

"Yes, thank you" I answer managing a kind smile. Everyone quickly settles around the table and I feel guilty for keeping them waiting. I should have called and told them I wasn't going to come.

"What do you want to eat?" I look at the table full of food and nothing catches my attention at all. I ate on my way home from the office so I am still full. But staring into his curious waiting eyes, I give the food one last glance before choosing fried chicken. I don't want to disappoint his mum.

"Two pieces of fried chicken, please, I am not hungry" Rico nods and after serving me the food, I am about to pick my cutlery when he beats me to it. He moves my plate in front of him and cuts the chicken into smaller pieces before bringing one to my mouth. 

"Thank you" I smile opening up. 

Rico feeds me until my plate is empty. After two sips of orange juice. I glance around the table and everyone seems to be in a happy mood.

"Can I be excused? I am a little bit tired" I ask no one in particular. I am not lying though, I can fall asleep in this very chair and sleep soundly. 

"Sure, baby" 

"Go ahead, honey" Rico and his mum say simultaneously. 

"Thank you, Mum" I smile at Kay and gently get on my feet.

"I will take you" Rico mumbles picking me up. After placing me on the bed, he walks to the closet 

for my sleeping clothes and just then, my phone beeps with an incoming message.

'Boss, we got him' I slightly smile when I read the message from Fabio. 

'Don't capture him just yet, have someone tail him and see where he leads us' I type away and place my phone on the bedside stand.

There won't be an escape for you this time, Ryan. Thank you for bringing yourself home.
