Chapter 36 CHAPTER 36

Chapter 36 CHAPTER 36
SERA'S POV

I walked into school today expecting someone to say something, react or ask me questions.

In fact, I expected everyone to trample on me, demanding answers.

Only my best friend ran into my arms.

“I've missed you so much!”

“I've missed you too, you got a new piercing?”

“Yes, it still hurts like crap.”

And then I realised I would never be able to have that again.

My skin would heal, pushing out the metal in seconds.

This life was already taking things from me and making me abnormal.

“What's the hold up?”

I turned to see Annabelle strut in and speaking to Tori.

They were my school bodyguards as the others couldn't blend in so they were waiting for me to finish with Naomi.

“I'm speaking to my friend but you guys can go, I'll join you later.”

“Wait, are you changing classes?”

“Aunt Kelly’s orders. I have to stay close to my cousins. Watch them or whatever,” I winked and she understood immediately.

“So I won't be seeing you again?”

“Yes, she's with us now, go perch elsewhere,” Annabelle spoke like a weird, bitchy TV character and pulled at Tori’s arm.

Tori made to grab me as well but I pulled back.

“You both go, I'll come with her,” Edgar said for me.

“Mom said stick together at all times,” she snapped at her brother.

“Look, I'll just text you later okay?” Naomi cut in.

“And I'll see you at lunch. I'm sorry about all of this.”

“It's fine, things like that has never bothered me anyway.”

I hugged her once more and went to the new class with them.

And there was an immediate shift in my view of the way this school ran.

The first thing I noticed was that their classes were bigger and each student had a big desk to themselves as if they couldn't exist in each other's space. The door was freaking soundproof.

The teachers spoke lowly, like they were whispering and the most obvious part was that everyone here was a wolf.

They didn't even hide it, long claws displayed in the open, fur springing up randomly and they were all very uninterested in the class.

We also didn't move around classes, the teachers came and went as classes changed.

I guess making more soundproof rooms was too expensive.

One thing I noticed though, was that all the teachers were human and yet, they didn't freak out when one of the wolves showed their true nature.

But I could smell the fear they were trying to conceal.

I mean, you can't tell anyone here what to do so you can imagine how rowdy and unruly they were.

Teachers, scared as hell but still needed to feed kept trying to teach students who didn't care to learn anything.

It didn't take long for them to notice me though.

By third period, students were already snickering every time I raised my hand to answer a question.

“You don't have to answer Sera, they won't do anything,” Tori said in my head.

Still felt weird as hell.

“But I know the answer.”

“You don't have to yell your responses in my head, just think it I'll hear you. Also, pardon my intrusion, go on showing off.”

I noticed the eye roll that came with her reply and proceeded to answer the teacher who was still waiting for me.

Now I understand why I had so many customers when I was doing assignments.

Wait, could I still keep doing it?

I'd blown up most of my savings on buying clothes I thought Kane would like.

And as though the devil was summoned by my thoughts, there was a knock on the door and everyone adjusted, putting their claws away and the door opened to him.

My wolf snarled but I remembered all the ways of controlling her my Aunt taught me.

I shut my eyes and took big, intense breaths and traced as it went from my lungs to my body.

But his scent was stuck to my skin and each breath came with the feeling of betrayal.

I had trusted him, he knew what I was just like every student here and they all kept it from me.

He took it a step further by trying to have me before my wolf would come.

He was trying to force me that weekend because he knew that'll be his last chance.

A horrible, opportunistic bastard with power.

“Sera.”

A snarl left me before I could stop it.

“Please leave her alone, Kane,” Tori said in a pleading tone.

“Why are you begging him? Aunt Kelly clearly warned him to stay away from him.”

“And you think her words mean shit? He's the future Alpha, she's just a Beta,” Castle, one of his boot lickers sneered.

“I remember beating your future Alpha to a pulp the other day so I definitely think he should train harder before he goes around claiming to be superior.”

Then I called him the R word and the entire class gasped.

“What did you just call me?” He snarled, bending over my head.

I stood up, pushing him away from me with my newfound strength.

“If you had just seen me on a random day and shown your true nature, that would have been different. But you knew I would soon shift and that I'll have a mate and a wolf. So you pretended to be something you're not to defile the most sacred thing about your own species. One that you're supposed to lead! You're no Alpha Kane, at best you're a mockery of that position. I might not be allowed to put my hands on you again without provocation but if you want to keep showing them how much of a weakling you truly are, get in my face again.”

We stared off at each other for a few seconds, and then he blinked.

“I'm just leaving you alone because you're a halfling with no real power. I don't like beating people weaker than me.”

“But you can sexually harass them? Great to know where your priorities lie.”

“Stop provoking him Sera.”

“Jeez, shut up Tori! You can literally just shut up!”

“But you're going to get yourself in trouble, I'm only trying to help you.”

“He tried to rape me! How is that not processing in your head? How are you choosing him after knowing what he spent weeks planning against your own cousin? A vampire that's supposed to kill me rescued me from my supposed future Alpha! What's not clicking?!”

“Hey, you can stop yelling,” Annabelle replied for her, “we get it, you need attention and you've gotten it. Some people are actually trying to learn here so can you shut it?”

Nods and agreement resounded around the room.

I knew when I was beat so I sat down.

Lunch break began and I was out of there faster than the speed of lightening.
