Chapter 10 CHAPTER 10

Chapter 10 CHAPTER 10
All eyes turned to me immediately and I froze in response.

Was my Aunt's family in some sort of cult? Why were these dangerous looking men in the house?

And more wolves?

“Go to your room Sera,” Aunt Kelly said to me immediately she saw me, “and lock your door properly. These wolves aren't as well trained as Ryan.”

My heart rate increased instantly and before anyone could breathe again, I was rushing up the stairs, and the second I got to my room, I shut it and bolted the doors.

What is happening?

I shift the whole thing off my mind and focus on my assignments.

The door to the main house opened and I know that sounds crazy but I heard it open, which didn't use to happen before. I rushed to the window to be sure I wasn't imagining and sure enough, they were all walking out of the door and heading to the cars Pack in the garage and on the street.

I looked for the wolves that had been there with them but I didn't see them.

Did they leave them here?

I barely encounter Ryan the wolf because most of the time I'm up here since my cousins had a full social life that they didn't want to include me in for some reason but the idea of two more wolves in the house didn't sit well with me. Should I start saving money for my own house before college?

Gosh, why did my life have to take such a dastardly turn?

When I got to school the next day, my mood wasn't too good. I'd decided not to eat again, but at this point, it was looking like I wasn't strong enough. My stomach wasn't making obvious noises now, just giving me a migraine.

We didn't have maths today but we were given our assignment booklet back.

The second I saw the C+ plus, a fury I couldn't remember ever feeling before wrapped around my head like a thick cloud.

“Where are you going?” Naomi asked but her voice sounded like it was coming from the next building.

“He gave me a C+,” I grumbled, a weird sound coming from my chest that made me pause for a second but the anger wasn't dissipating.

“That's strange, you helped me with mine and I got an A.”

“Exactly. I'm going to meet him, maybe there's something I'm missing and he's not just trying to ruin my chances of getting into a good college based on vibes.”

“Go girl, demand for justice and equal rights!”

I rolled my eyes but I let out a chuckle and then increased my pace.

Barging into his office, I'm happy to see he's alone, but he's frowning and that slowed me down.

He's usually a bubble of sunshine and smiles except when he looks at me so seeing him this way, all serious and grumpy made me scared I might have walked in at a wrong time.

But I looked down at my booklet and I saw all the schools I wanted applying to sending me rejection emails and I cleared my throat, the anger returning with a vengeance.

“Sera,” he looked up, “what can I do for you?”

“You gave me a C,” I grunted.

“No, I gave you a C+. There's a difference.”

“Either is a far cry from what I deserve. Sir.”

“Is that so?” He said, folding his hands across his chest and sitting his butt at the edge of his table and crossed his legs.

“I looked at other people's works and we all arrived at the same conclusion. You gave the an A. Why?”

He let out a chuckle and beckoned me over.

I didn't move. He raised an eyebrow and smirked.

“Fine, since you insist on an explanation, I'll give you one Miss know it all.”

“I'm not –”

“Hush, you asked for an explanation, shut up and listen to it or get out.”

My lips parted and shut at the whole thing, what did I do to him?

“You're different from everyone else, you proved it to me the other day so it grates on my nerves every time I see you doing the same basic shit. Why are you using the easier method?”

“You didn't ask us –”

“I didn't ask you to challenge me in front of the class the other day, did I?”

“Is that why you're doing this?” He rolled his eyes and stood up, but I continued. “You're ruining my chances of getting into a good school and a good future because your ego is hurt?”

I saw a sliver of guilt cross his eyes but he blinked it away, the gray clouds in tame swallowing all emotions.

The man was suddenly stone, not the sunshine rainbows he usually is with Cara and the rest.

That fucking hurt, way more than it should.

“It's just one C+, you can always get an A and cancel it,” he grumbled.

“No sir, I don't know when and where you went to school but in this day and age, every single grade matters. The last time, it was a B, and now I slink lower, all for something so insignificant. I demand a remark!”

“Or what?” He asked, taking a step towards me.

And then another.

The third pushed me back instinctively but that one streak of stubbornness I gained from dealing with Mom’s strays rushed back in and I retraced my steps and headed towards him.

His eyes widened and he stopped moving.

It took everything in me not to smile at the small victory.

Grumpy, strange teacher that can carry me in one hand and run at an insane speed 1 – Me – 2.

Yes, I won him in class the other day and if he wants to be salty about it, I don't care. But it shouldn't affect my grades, I desperately need those numbers up.

“I'll remark your work,” he finally said, stretching his hand out for the book, “but you've raised my expectations for you, so stick to it and stop giving me mediocre work.”

“I'll do my best sir,” I replied, handing it to him, a feeling of euphoria replacing the anger I felt earlier.

As I turned to head back, he cleared his throat and I turned to look at him, wondering what the problem is now.

“Is your button usually open when you go to confront teachers?”

My eyes widened, blood rushed to my cheeks and I looked at the culprit.

When did that happen?

Have I been shoving my chest into the man's face all this time?

Oh heavens help me.
