Chapter 9 A Gift

Chapter 9 A Gift
The grandmother lying in bed immediately perked up when she saw Rossie. She reached out her hand and asked him to come closer, "Rossie, my grandson. Come here!"

Rossie obediently approached her, looking very concerned about her condition. "Grandma, how are you?"

"The pain here has gotten better when I saw you." Grandma pointed to her left chest.

"Rossie, did my stupid grandson divorce you?" Grandma asked again.
Rossie sighed heavily and admitted it. "Yes, Grandma, we are divorced."
Grandma immediately narrowed her eyes at Bryce. "Are you crazy? You have such a wonderful and perfect wife, but you don't appreciate her at all. Instead, you chose to be with that prostitute!"

Grandma's words really angered Bryce, but he didn't dare to argue, considering Grandma's health.

"Grandma, please don't be angry with him. I can't continue this marriage, so we chose to separate." Rossie tried to calm Grandma down by rubbing her back.

Bryce narrowed his eyes when he heard this and thought, 'She's not complaining to Grandma or using her to vent her anger and revenge. Could she be using a new trick to get my attention and save this marriage?'

'Huh! Rose Winter, you're too confident!'

"Rossie, has Bryce always been mean to you?" asked Grandma.

Rossie shook her head. "It's not like that, Grandma, but the two of us are just not compatible anymore. For the sake of everyone, we have to separate."

Rossie smiled. "Don't blame Bryce. We also have beautiful memories from these three years. That's enough. Neither of us regrets it."

Bryce frowned, and there was a confusing emotion in his heart. He didn't remember ever sharing beautiful memories with her. He didn't even have a wedding party.

They only got a marriage certificate at Grandma's insistence. After that, Rossie lived in the Johansen family home and went about her routine as a wife. If Rossie said these were beautiful memories, she was definitely lying.

"Rossie, is this my fault?" Grandma's eyes welled up with tears.

She sighed. "I wanted you to be happy, so I set you up. I didn't expect this person to be so cruel. It seems I have hurt you. "

" Don't say that, Grandma. We no longer love each other, and it's time for us to go our separate ways."

In fact, Rossie had loved Bryce for ten years, and only she knew how painful it was to love Bryce. But Bryce never saw it.

If Rossie continued to try to stay with him, she would lose her self-respect. She didn't want to be a woman who was hated for trying so hard to get a little affection from a man.

"And, bring the gift I prepared for my granddaughter-in-law."

And she put on white gloves before handing over a smooth red velvet jewellery box. When it was opened, Rossie saw a ruby bracelet inside. Rossie had seen that bracelet before; it was a classic, more than a decade old.

"Grandma, that bracelet..." Bryce shouted.

"Yes, I know. Your grandfather gave it to me to pass on to my grandchildren, so I'm giving it to Rossie."

"I know you must think I should have given it to Kelly, your sister, or
Miranda, your mother. Unfortunately, your late grandfather instructed me to give it to the daughter I love. I don't have a daughter, and you don't have children either, so I gave it to Rossie."

Rossie gasped and shook her head. "I'm sorry, Grandma, I can't accept this gift."

But Grandma held Rossie's hand. "Even though you're no longer with Bryce, you're the only daughter-in-law I recognise."

Hearing Rossie's refusal, Grandma snorted in annoyance. "If you don't accept it, I'll destroy it."

"No! No!" Rossie held Grandma's hand gently.

"I'll accept it. Thank you, Grandma. "

" Yes, you should," Grandma smiled contentedly and put it on her wrist.
The ruby bracelet looked perfect on Rossie's white, delicate wrist. This was the first time Bryce had looked closely at her hands and noticed how soft and smooth they were. She really suited the ruby bracelet.

"And you? What did you give Rossie on her birthday? Divorce papers?" asked Grandma curtly.

Bryce clenched his fist. Grandma was right, on their third wedding anniversary, which was also Rossie's birthday, Bryce had given her divorce papers.

"Rossie, do you really want to divorce Bryce?" asked Grandma, not giving up.

"Grandma..." Rossie held her hand. "If you really love me, please support my decision!"

"Since you've said this, there's nothing I can do. But I have a request. Please come to my 75th birthday party in a few days!" Grandma pleaded.
"Grandma, that's not appropriate," Bryce protested.

"Why? Don't tell me you plan to bring that woman to my birthday and force her to be my daughter-in-law! Do those two women think they can do anything to the Johansen men? Huh! Dream on!"

Grandma glared at Bryce, "If you respect me and want me to live a few more years, you'd better stay away from her. I will never accept her."
Meanwhile, Lily paced nervously outside the room.

"Stop pacing. You're giving me a headache," Daisy said, rubbing her forehead.

"Why are you so nervous about that old woman? She's half dead, and she won't be able to control Bryce for long. All you have to do is win Bryce's heart, and that's enough."

"It's easy for you to say that. But if Grandma doesn't die, she'll never accept me! If that happens, I'll never be able to marry Bryce." Lily immediately covered her mouth after saying that, worried that someone might hear her.

"The human heart is weak and soft. She's his granddaughter. If Bryce insists on marrying you, do you think she can really stop him?"

Lily realised that Daisy might be correct, and she felt much calmer.
Finally, the door to the treatment room opened, and Dan brought Rossie and Bryce out.

After composing her expression, Lily approached Bryce coquettishly. But suddenly, she furrowed her brow.

The ruby bracelet on Rossie's wrist was so shiny, and she couldn't take her eyes off it. The bracelet was much more expensive than the heirloom jewellery she was wearing. Rossie hadn't been wearing it before, so it must have been a gift from Grandma.

Lily looked jealous, and suddenly an evil plan crossed her mind. She suddenly pushed Rossie.

Lily pretended to fall into Rossie and grab the ruby bracelet. However, Rossie was quicker and dodged, causing Lily to fall face-first onto the floor.

"Ugh!" Lily cried out in pain, while Rossie turned her face away, trying to hide her laughter.
