Chapter 7 A Phone Call
Rossie stammered at Dominic's question. She didn't know whether to answer honestly or not. Her hand was injured while helping her mother-in-law, Miranda. At that time, her mother-in-law was almost hit by a porcelain jar, and Rossie tried to save her, but her hand was cut by broken porcelain, tearing her finger.
What happened then was a misfortune for Rossie, but what was annoying was that her mother-in-law and husband didn't appreciate her. Even with her injured hand, Rossie still had to serve them, and there was no thank you at all.
"Rossie!" Dominic asked her again, holding Rossie's hand and looking more closely at the scar.
"Is this because of Bryce Johansen? Did he hit you?"
Rossie shook her head.
"You don't have to protect him anymore. You know we would never let a mosquito bite you, and you know what would happen to Bryce if I found out he hurt you like this." Dominic said it firmly and authoritatively.
That was when Rossie realized that this scar would be a serious problem for her eldest brother. Telling the truth would only add to Rossie's emotional pain, but if she hid it, Dominic would find a way to find out.
Rossie decided to tell him what really happened.
"You're so ungrateful. You should have just let the porcelain fall on your ex-mother-in-law's head!" Dominic exclaimed angrily, his hands clenched into fists.
Rossie guessed that her brother was planning something.
In the past, she felt that the scar was an honor because she had become a savior. But now, she felt disgusted by it. The past must be forgotten immediately. She had loved the wrong person and would not shed any more tears for him.
Suddenly, Darren knocked on the open door and entered the room. "Miss Cavendish, I have found a furniture supplier for our luxury apartment. Most of it is from JHome. Mr. Kent is currently contacting them."
"JHome?" Rossie held her forehead and let out a long sigh.
"Ugh!"
"Ask the finance department to prepare financial reports for the last two years. Don't forget to contact the new supplier and terminate our cooperation with JHome immediately!" Rossie ordered.
Dominic, who was beside her, raised an eyebrow. "Does it have to be like this?" Dominic asked.
Rossie smiled cynically. "JHome is a company owned by the Jones family, Lili Jones' parents, Bryce's first love."
"Hmm, you're getting your revenge, aren't you?" Dominic said.
"No! But the products they provide to the Nexus group are of poor quality, and that does not reflect well on the Nexus group," Rossie replied firmly.
The sofa, mattress, bed sheets, and table in the show unit felt uncomfortable and rough. Even when he touched the table, there were still wood fibers sticking out. This certainly gave an uncomfortable impression and could scare off potential customers. No wonder sales weren't outstanding.
"Right! And one more thing," Darren added. "You asked me to keep an eye on the Johansen family. I heard that Lucia Johansen had another heart attack. She is currently being treated at a hospital under the Nexus group. "
" Grandma is in the hospital? "Rossie immediately stood up anxiously.
Suddenly, Dominic's cell phone rang, and it was from Bryce, her ex-husband. Dominic frowned and showed the screen of his cell phone to Rossie." Your ex-husband!"
"Huh! Why is he calling you?" Rossie asked irritably.
"Do you want me to talk to him?" Dominic asked.
Rossie nodded.
Dominic immediately answered the call and turned on the speaker, but he didn't start talking.
"Mr. Dominic Cavendish, are you with my wife right now?" Bryce asked hoarsely.
Rossie found his words provocative and immediately became angry. "Mr. Bryce Johansen, please remember this well. I am your ex-wife."
"Rossie Winter, I know you must be with him." Bryce's tone was full of emotion.
"Then, do you think I should be at your house waiting for you to kick me out?" Rossie asked sharply.
Bryce's expression immediately turned gloomy, "I warn you not to cross the line! The divorce proceedings are still ongoing, and neither of us has the divorce papers yet. So you must behave honorably and not tarnish the good name of the Johansen family!"
Rossie laughed upon hearing this.
"Have you forgotten when you asked me to sign the divorce papers? You picked up Lily Jones and invited her to stay at your house. Didn't you think that your actions were tarnishing my reputation?"
Rossie smirked, then continued, "One-sided kindness means nothing. Since you don't care about my reputation, why should I care about the Johansen family's reputation? Besides, I respectfully handed over my position as the CEO's wife to Lily. You'd better ask her about that."
Dominic raised his eyebrows and looked at his sister. All this time, Rossie had been an obedient and gentle wife who was always hurt by the Johansen family just to get Bryce's attention. Fortunately, he was back.
Bryce sounded tired as he spoke again, "I don't have time to argue with you. Grandma is sick. She's in the hospital now, and she keeps asking to see you. She won't take her medicine if you're not here."
Rossie couldn't hide her anxiety upon hearing this. Even though she was divorced, Grandma had been very kind to her. She could give up all her possessions and not want a single penny, but she couldn't let go of that kind old woman.
"She's in the hospital under the Nexus Group, right? I'll be there shortly."
After ending the call, she sighed.
"Rossie, I'll take you there," Dominic said softly.
"It's okay. I'll go there to visit Grandma. I don't want to cause any unnecessary arguments. The situation will only get worse if you take me there." She waved her hand and added, "I'll drive."
At the hospital, Bryce and his father were standing outside Grandma Lucia's room.
Rossie walked over and noticed that Bryce looked thinner.
'What's wrong with him?
'Damn it! Why should I care about him? Whether he's thinner or fatter, it's never because of me. He can do whatever he wants!' Rossie cursed silently.
