Chapter 32 A Spacegoat
"Aaargh!" Lily shouted, unable to contain her anger.
She hadn't expected Bryce to be so angry and rude to her. Lily walked away quickly and noisily, crying as she went.
"It's just a cheap suit, an ugly box. Why did Bryce have to look for it, rummaging through the trash in the rain like that? With his wealth, he could not only buy another suit, but he could also buy the factory that produced it. This is really ridiculous!"
Unbeknownst to Lily, the servants were quietly talking about her, mocking her childish behavior.
Compared to Lily, the servants preferred Rossie. She was friendlier and knew how to behave, even though Mrs. Miranda constantly insulted her for being an orphan and a girl from the village.
"Miss Jones always acts strangely and cries like a child when she leaves this house. It's as if this house is her playground. It's really inappropriate."
"Unlike Miss Rossie, she never seems to get angry for no reason."
"I wonder why Mr. Bryce doesn't see Miss Rossie's goodness. Poor Mr. Bryce."
The servants shook their heads and went back to their respective tasks.
Meanwhile, Bryce sat silently on the sofa, holding his head. He stared at the pile of torn fabric for a long time. There was no denying that seeing Rossie's gift in that state made his chest feel tight.
"Mr. Bryce, it's late. Here's some milk for you. Go clean yourself up, you need to rest." Hannah, his maid, handed him a glass of warm milk.
Bryce just glanced at her briefly and took the milk without saying anything.
Hannah then sighed deeply and looked at the damaged suit. "What a pity." Her words carried a deeper meaning.
"When Lily comes again, keep an eye on her. Don't let her into my room or my study!" Bryce ordered without looking at her, speaking firmly.
"Oh, one more thing, Rossie's room too! Only you and I are allowed to go in there!" This time, Bryce spoke more seriously.
"Don't worry. Your request is my command. I'll watch her every moment," Hannah promised confidently.
Bryce nodded and drank his milk.
"Luckily, I always lock Mrs. Rossie's room. Otherwise, Miss Jones might have sneaked in and made a mess," Hannah added.
"Don't talk like that, Hannah. Lily did annoy me this time, but she's not that bad of a person. Besides, I've been indebted to her for the past three years. "
" Then what about Miss Rossie? Did she do something wrong? Don't you see how she lives here? Don't you feel sorry for her after her divorce?" Hannah's voice rose an octave without her realizing it as she defended Rossie.
"I was the one forced by Grandpa to marry, not her. She could have chosen not to marry me or to marry someone else, but she chose me instead. Besides, living here is better than her life as an orphan out there!" Bryce said arrogantly.
"Is that what you think?" Hannah asked, shaking her head.
"It seems you really don't know anything about Miss Rossie. If you knew her, you wouldn't be like this," Hannah said softly.
"Take a break. Excuse me." Hannah left the room gloomily. She also took the empty milk glass with her.
Meanwhile, Bryce just pursed his pale lips, seemingly affected by Hannah's words.
'Is it true that I don't know what happened to Rossie in this house?
He blinked and took a deep breath, wondering, "Does Hannah know more than I do? Huh! Since when did Rossie win the hearts of the people close to me? She seems cunning."
Lily returned home feeling sad. Without financial support from the Johansen Group, the Jones Group would face serious problems, and it would not be able to recover easily.
"Why are you so sad? What did Bryce do to you? He claimed to love you so deeply, but he acted like a fool. Do we mean nothing to him?" Jake slammed his hand on the table. His eyes were red with anger.
"How could he not love me? He divorced without hesitation for me." Lily cried and still defended Bryce. She did love Bryce, regardless of her family's interests.
"I'm sure he's weighing the pros and cons. At least you come from a wealthy family. And what does Rose Winter have? How can dust like her be compared to wealth? Even a fool knows who the best choice is! "continued Jake.
Although Lily knew Jake was on her side, she couldn't shake the feeling that he sometimes looked down on her.
" But Lily, why did Mr. Bryce suddenly change his mind? What happened? "Adrian asked anxiously.
" I don't know either. Today Bryce met with Miss Cavendish at her office. But after that, his attitude changed 180 degrees after he got home. He said he wouldn't help us anymore. "
" I don't know what they talked about there. "
" Dad, Jake, did you guys do something behind his back, and someone found out? He seems to hate our family... "Lily sounded panicked.
" Damn! Is it because of his ex-wife, Rossie?" Jake thought about something.
"What do you mean? What does that have to do with that bitch?" Lily asked, feeling uncomfortable when she heard her name.
"A few days ago, I was at the bar, and I ran into that crazy woman. Bryce helped her and made me apologize to her. But I refused, maybe that's why he's mad at me." Jake held back his disappointment and humiliation.
Lily's face darkened as she thought about the possibility of Bryce having feelings for Alice.
"That's impossible. Bryce has never loved Rossie, and if there was a commotion at the bar between Jake and Bryce, it must have been a misunderstanding, not because he loves Rossie!" This time, Daisy tried to calm her daughter down.
"Rossie is just an outcast. No matter how cunning she is, she can't do anything in this situation. Our main focus now is to change the public's perception of us. We need to find a scapegoat. That's our top priority." Daisy continued.
"A scapegoat?" An idea flashed through Jake's mind as he smiled cynically.
"I know who deserves the blame the most!"
