Chapter 9 Police Baby

Chapter 9 Police Baby
MIA

"I am sorry,"

I lowered my gaze.

"She insisted that you stay out. I think we should um....we should give ourselves some space. At least for now. My mom is a very strict and picky person. She hates the idea of her only child dating a cleaner."

My heart tightened.

"Just stay home for a while. You have your savings right? I will try my best to send you some funds to hold onto till you find another job. I will......"

"Babe!" A familiar female voice interrupted him in the background.

My heart tightened again.

"I will talk to you...."

"Babe, who are you talking to?!" she called again.

"No one. Bye, Mia," the voice text ended.

I felt tears in my eyes as I looked at my phone.

I stared at Axel's picture on my screen.

A tear rolled down my cheek as I recalled those times together. They were lovely moments.

And I thought they were real.

I guess they weren't.

Tiny hands gripped my wrist and I looked at my little friend.

I realized he has crawled towards me and his two hands are on my wrist.

His eyes are on me, looking at me like he understands what is going on.

I furrowed my brows slightly at him.

I sniffled, wiping my tears.

I guess my tears are making him be like this.

"Come on, buddy. Let's get you to the station." I carried him as I got on my feet.

"Are you ready?"

He gripped my hair.

I chuckled. "You never listen, do you?"

He began placing it.

I shook my head as I put my phone in my pocket and headed out.

A FEW MINUTES LATER

I walked out of the bus after paying the driver and the bus drove away.

I turned around and I saw the town's station in front of me.

I heaved a sigh as I looked at my little friend. He is busy playing with my hair.

It is time to go our separate ways.

Left for me, I will keep you. You somehow help me forget my pathetic life.

But that will be selfish.

I moved my eyes to the building. People are barely moving in and out of it and some walk past, heading to their business.

I let out a sigh.

My little one has a family. He needs to go back.

I braced myself a bit and headed towards the building. I entered and I was greeted with a less busy place.

I walked towards the counter where a female officer with red hair tied up in a neat bun was seated. She is chewing gum and typing on her phone.

"Um.... Good day, officer,"

"Yeah, what?" she snapped without looking at me.

"I uh..... I came to report a missing baby I found."

Her eyes moved to me.

I held my little friend close, giving her a hint.

Her eyes moved to the baby and then to me.

"What baby?"

I gestured at the baby in my arms.

"Him,"

She scoffed. "Seriously?"

I nodded.

She hummed, staring at me from head to toe and then at the baby as she chewed her gum.

He is still playing with my hair.

"Where did you find him?" She asked, returning her gaze to her phone.

"In a trash can close to where I live," I answered.

She hummed, acting nonchalant about my report.

Like she doesn't believe me or something.

"Are you sure you don't just want to dump your baby here and run away?"

I furrowed my brows, taken aback by her question.

"Wha....."

"I mean that is what you young girls do these days. You go out there, get laid, get pregnant, and think of every possible means to get ready of your babies," she said, looking at me.

I shook my head. "That's not true. I found him in a trash can."

She nodded. "Right,"

I scoffed internally.

"He is an interracial baby,"

"Of course he is. You hate his black father so much because he dumped you after you got pregnant for him, huh?"

I scoffed in disbelief. "This is not my baby"

"Don't you raise your voice at me," she shunned.

I calmed myself. "I apologize. But I am telling you the truth. This is not my...."

She placed a paper on the counter in front of me with a loud tap, shutting me up.

She placed a pen on top of it.

"Write your statement over there," she said, pointing at the waiting seat and returning her attention to her phone.

I stared at her for a second before heaving a sigh. I picked up the paper and moved to the seats.

I sat on one of them and placed my little friend on my lap.

I placed the paper on another seat and picked up the pen.

He made sounds while placing my hair as I began writing. I wrote down everything starting from when I walked past the trashcan and I heard his tiny voice.

After some minutes, I was done. I read it through and I was satisfied with it. I got on my feet and held my little friend properly before walking back to the counter.

The officer is still busy with her phone. This time, she is smiling sheepishly at whatever she is reading.

"I am done writing," I said, placing the paper on the counter and pushing it closer to her.

"Good. Come back tomorrow,"

I furrowed my brows. "What? Tomorrow?"

She looked at me. "Did I stutter?"

I stared at her.

"Go and come back tomorrow," she ordered, returning her attention to her phone.

I looked at the baby.

He is making his baby talk and fiddling with my hair. I looked around the place and I saw some officers at their seats. The majority are focused on their phones and the others are just talking with one another.

They all look nonchalant. I feel like if I go to them they will give me the same feedback this female officer just gave me.

They don't look serious about their jobs.

I returned my gaze to the female officer.

She is smiling sheepishly again.

I heaved a sigh and headed for the door.

I looked at my little friend.

I guess I have you all to myself for another night, buddy.

Tomorrow it is.

I headed out of the building and walked towards the road.

I saw an incoming bus, making me wave my hand.

It stopped in front of me and the doors opened. I got on it, paid the driver, and headed towards two empty seats and sat in the one close to the window.

The bus moved as I placed my little friend on my way, making him straddle me.

"We are heading back to my place. The officer told us to come tomorrow. I am not selfish but I kinda like it. You will keep me company again tonight." I reached for his cheek and pinched it.

He let out a cranky cry, making me chuckle as I withdrew my hand from him.

I held him still, staring at his soaks.

What the officer said filled my head again.

I scoffed internally.

Why would she think I came to dump my baby with them?

Seriously?

I huffed, shaking my head.

What did she say again? I hate his black father so much because he dumped me?

That's a very awkward thing to say.

Even if I have a baby, his father is white.

Axel is white. He is the only man in my life.

I felt a pain in my heart at the thought of Axel.

I let out a breath and placed my little friend close to me.

I made him look at me again.

"I should name you, right? I mean the day is still young. We have the entire day to spend together. I will call you um.......Jay Jay. You look like a Jay Jay, don't you?"

He made baby talk.

I smiled. "You like that right?"

I raised him a bit, smiling at him.

"You like? Jay Jay?"

He laughed adorably, making me chuckle.

"Aw, he is so adorable," a woman behind me said, making me look behind.

It was an old woman with gray hair, smiling at Jay Jay.

"His dad must have blue eyes too. That is where he got them, right?" she asked.

"Uh...." I  nodded and smiled nervously before facing Jay Jay as I lowered him down.

I need to get him back to his parents or maybe his mother.

The officer might have sounded ridiculous mistaking me for Jay Jay's mom but she has a point.

What if his mother dumped him because she couldn't take care of him?

Or she hates the father.

I can't tell if his father is black or his mother is. Either way, his mother might have dumped him.

Oh Gosh.

Poor thing.

Who knows, she might be a teenager who can't take care of him. So she decided to dump him.

Poor thing.

I let out a sigh, staring at him as he grabbed his socks.

A scream from people drew my attention to the window.

I saw some cars parked at a corner and some black men were beating up some people as we drove past.

I furrowed my brows as I held Jay Jay closer.

What the....

I heard people talking and I realized they are also staring at the scene.

Who are they?

Why are they beating those people like that?
