Chapter 36 Fire Hospital
BIG KAI
AT BRICKTOWN HOSPITAL
The car pulled up in front of the Bricktown Hospital building.
"Max," I called the driver.
"Yes, boss,"
"Keep an eye on them,"
"Yes, boss,"
"I'll be back in a few. Let's go, Rowland," I said to the other guard. He got out of the car as I looked at the white girl.
She is looking at the window as Lil Kai plays with her hair.
The door opened, taking my attention. I got out of the car and he closed the door.
Caleb joined me from the second car following us and we headed towards the building.
The guard and Caleb opened the double doors for me and I walked in.
I got to the middle of the huge place and stopped in my tracks, so did others as I took in the fancy aesthetics that never cease to remind me of my money well spent.
The place is almost scanty with nurses moving to and fro.
Just two patients are seated in the large waiting area.
That's good.
I put a lot of my money is in this building but I would like fewer patients.
Fewer patients means my fucking hood is in good health.
No accident or casualties.
That's a good thing.
"Mr Kincaid," a male white doctor called, walking towards me with a smile and a black nurse following him behind.
He extended his hand to me.
I stared at his hand and then at him.
His smile was falling from the heights of confidence.
"Where Doctor Smalls at?"
He withdrew his hand.
"Oh, Doctor Smalls, he...."
"Big Kai," a familiar male voice took my attention.
Dr Smalls approached happily in his scrubs and face mask under his chin.
Looks like he just finished operating on a patient.
"Excuse me," the white moron said, walking away as Dr Smalls got closer.
He extended his hand to me and I took it.
"Dr Smalls,"
"Welcome, Big Kai. We weren't expecting you." He said, smiling cheerfully.
"I decided to drop by. Been a while."
"Absolutely, boss. We are glad to have you here." He said, smiling.
"You just operated on sum patient?"
He shrugged. "You are correct."
"No loss, right?"
"No. We just had a delivery. A woman from the hood just had twin boys." He said, chuckling happily.
I nodded. Impressed by the news.
"Isn't it exciting?" He asked.
"Absolutely."
"You should see them. They are adorable. Just like your kid."
"Mm hmm," I hummed, looking around.
"The family is excited."
"Reeko's gonna send my gifts to them later. Let's go to your office. We have a lot to talk about." I said.
"Of course, this....."
"Please you have to operate on my son," an unfamiliar black woman begged, taking our attention. She is standing at the front desk, dressed in some rag-like attire and talking to the white nurse.
"I am sorry ma'am. We need a report from the police before we start." The white nurse said.
I furrowed my brows.
"Please, my son would die. He is just turned eighteen."
"Ma'am please...."
"You are not listening to me, nurse. I beg you."
I moved my eyes to Dr Smalls. He stared at me nervously and then at the nurse.
"My son just turned eighteen and he is the only one I have. Please help me." The woman begged.
"Ma'am, listen. We need the report and you are not even from Bricktown. I am sorry, you have to...."
"Um...nurse," Dr Smalls called, walking towards the desk. "It's okay. Get on with the operation."
"Oh thank you...." The woman said.
"But...." The nurse tried to protest.
"Thank you so much, doctor." The woman said, clasping her hands together.
"Don't worry ma'am. Just take a seat." Dr Smalls said.
"But, Doctor, we need....."
"He said get on with the fucking operation!" I ordered, claiming everyone's attention.
The fuck is this?
Dr Smalls said something I couldn't hear to the nurse, making her pick up her telephone instantly.
I looked towards the mother. She is already seated on one of the waiting seats.
I walked towards her, sensing Caleb and the guard attempting to follow me but I raised my hand at them a bit without taking my eyes off the woman as I walked towards her.
I crouched down in front of her, making her uneasy.
I stared at her sorrow-filled face.
For a mother of an eighteen-year-old, she is young but the sorrows are making her look older than her age.
"What's your boy's name, ma'am?"
"Ha....Hakeem, sir."
I nodded slightly.
"What happened?"
"He.....he got in a gun and knife fight on the streets."
I hummed. "Shot or stabbed?"
"Stabbed."
I nodded.
She lowered her gaze, sniffling.
"Which hood you come from?" I asked.
"Castlefield,"
I scoffed. "Marcel's hood?"
She looked at me.
"W....we don't call him that. It's Stones." she stuttered.
"Mm hmm."
"Call him Marcel and he....he will have you punished."
I scoffed. "Yeah, no shit. That's for y'all, his people. That's why he ain't looking after his hood right? Making y'all scared of him instead of protecting your asses. Letting things like gun and knife fights occur in his streets."
She lowered her gaze.
"Marcel's a motherfucker."
She looked at me.
I raised my brows.
She lowered her gaze again..
"Your boy gonna be fine."
She looked at me.
"You don't have to worry. They will operate on him. You came to the right place. He is not dying. He has you to take care of."
She smiled slightly.
I gave her a nod.
I patted her hands before getting up straight.
"Let's go to my office, boss," Dr Smalls said, taking my attention.
I walked towards him.
"This way, si...."
"Let this be the last time that shit happens in my goddamn hospital." I snarled, making him gulp as he stared at me with a little terror.
"I apologize, boss. The nurse is just a week old here and she...."
"And I want her out."
His face twitched.
I raised my brows.
"Sir, she......"
"Blacks can't beg for their fucking lives no more. You and I watched it happen right before our fucking eyes and you fucker tryna defend the heartless bitch?"
"N...no, sir. It is just that she has a lot to learn about the....."
"It is either her job or yours, Dr Smalls."
He stared at me.
"Trust me, nigga. I got a long line of black doctors as good as you waiting to fucking take your spot."
He nodded. "She will leave."
"Another thing. The boy must be saved."
"Yes, boss."
"I will cover all the bills. Meals inclusive."
"Yes, boss."
"Lead the way to your fucking office,"
He obeyed, gesturing at the way.
I followed.
HOURS LATER........
BRICKTOWN HOOD.......
The car stopped in front of the club and Rowland got out of the passenger's seat.
"Max," I called.
"I got you, boss." He said.
I looked at the white girl and my kid.
They are calm. Especially my kid who is still playing with his favorite toy.
Her fucking hair.
I got out of the car after Rowland opened the door for me.
He closed the door and I walked into the building with him following me behind.
Caleb didn't come here with me. I had him wait at the hospital till that kid was treated and safe from danger.
I want him to be sure that he is and inform me afterwards.
They are almost done operating on him. Caleb will call me anytime soon.
Getting further into the club, Reeko walked out of the inner with his boys.
He smiled the minute he saw me, taking out the cigarette in his mouth.
"OG is here," he said, chuckling.
"Reeko," I called as we hit hands and shoulders with each other.
"Welcome, boss," he boys greeted.
I gave them a slight nod before moving my eyes back to Reeko.
"Let's go in, big dawg," he led the way towards his office.
I followed behind with Rowland.
"Have a seat, big dawg." Reeko offered me his main seat.
I took the guest seat instead, relaxing comfortably.
He scoffed. "OG,"
"You the boss of this place, Nigga. Take your seat."
He chuckled. "As Big Dawg commands,"
He sat in his seat and leaned on the desk.
"We weren't expecting you here, big dawg. How's everything?"
"Good."
"My dawg, Lil Kai, how is that nigga doing?"
"Lil dude at the car as we speak."
His face twitched. "For real?"
I stared at him.
"Shiit, why you ain't bring him in, big dawg?" He asked, smiling.
"Nah. He's a baby. He can't walk into this place till he is ten."
He chuckled. "Yeah, I feel you, man."
"He is out there cause the mansion ain't safe for him. I still haven't found his abductor, yet."
He nodded. "So his nanny didn't take him?
I shook my head. "Nah. She didn't."
"Well.....I feel the person who did the shit lives in your house."
I stared at him.
"Maybe you've killed them. Or not. We still need to find out."
I nodded. "I'm working on it."
"Sweet. I've been wanting to talk to you about some new deals."
"Let's hear it," I said, sitting up.
His eyes moved to something behind me.
"Oh, thank you, Susan," he said and a gorgeous black girl dressed in lingerie appeared with a tray of a bottle of whiskey and glasses.
She placed the tray in front of me and gave me her flirty look before walking away.
"Good job, baby," Reeko said as I stared at the whiskey.
"A little sumthin' for you, big dawg."
"Thank you. Let's get on with the deal."
"Sure thing, big dawg. Castlefield finna......"
BOOM!
We froze at the familiar sound of a fucking bomb.
"The fuck."
My heart dropped at the thought.
I turned and Rowland looked at me with surprise.
He hurried out.
I got on my feet and headed out as well. Reeko followed behind as I took in the commotion in the club.
Everyone is running outside.
I followed till I got outside, stopping in my tracks.
My fucking car just blew up.
Adrenaline consumed me as I thought of my kid and......
And the white girl in....
"FUCK!"
