Chapter 21 Golden Opportunity

I moved my fingers on the screen, crushing the candy as the fresh air blessed my skin repeatedly.
Jay Jay moved his fingers roughly on the screen, letting out some sounds.
"You can't play, Jay Jay." I chuckled as I held his finger and was about to move it on the screen when.....
"Heyyy," an unfamiliar female voice interrupted, making me look her way as she joined Jay Jay and me at the table.
She is a very beautiful brunette girl who looks a bit older than me, dressed in white pants and a yellow blouse."
Smiling, she took a seat on the bench opposite me as Jay hit the iPad screen with his tiny hands.
"Hello," she said, moving her hair behind her ears.
"Hello," I said nervously, noticing her freckles.
They didn't hinder her beauty though.
Why is she here? Who is she?
"I am April, one of the employees. Nice to meet you." She said, extending her hand to me.
"Mia," I said, placing my hand on hers.
She shook my hand, sending some kind of chills down my spine as she let go.
"You don't recognize me, do you?" she asked.
I shook my head as I held Jay Jay nervously while he moved his fingers on his iPad.
"Well, I know you wouldn't. You came into the mansion in a not-so-pleasant way."
I furrowed my brows.
The mansion?
As in.....
"Yes. I live in the boss's mansion too. And I was there when they brought you in."
I lowered my gaze, recalling how I was brought it.
I was unconscious but I woke up in a very horrible state.
I can still remember how freezing the water poured on me was.
I couldn't breathe.
"I am sorry if I brought up your awful experience." She said, making me look at her.
"But..." she reached for Jay Jay's hair and caressed it. "Thank the universe this little angel saved you."
I looked at Jay Jay. He is focused on the iPad.
He is really an angel.
My little friend.
I held his other hand, caressing it.
"Hey, I want to help you," April whispered, claiming my attention.
She is leaning closer and looking around nervously.
I furrowed my brows.
"You look like a very nice person and don't deserve to be killed. These people are awful."
My heart picked up.
"Trust me when I say they are not going to spare you."
My legs weakened as I looked around slightly and then at her.
"The boss is a very ruthless man. He still thinks you kidnapped his son."
"I didn't. I swear," I almost cried.
She nodded. "I know. I believe you. But he doesn't. He is going to wake up one day and chop your head off if you don't do something fast."
My heart dropped again.
Last night's terror came to my mind.
The emotionless way he shot that man was traumatic.
I couldn't sleep last night.
The image was on my face all through.
She is right.
He is ruthless.
What if keeping me in his custody as Jay Jay's nanny is just a means to kill me?
Chop my head off like she said.
God, I don't want to die. Not in that kind of awful way.
I looked at April.
"Please.....what do I do? I don't want to die. Please help me."
She held my hand, giving me a tiny sense of hope.
"Just pay close attention."
I nodded.
"I don't usually do this because it will be me risking my own life. But there is something about you that makes me want to help you to the best I can."
My heart melted a bit. "Thank you so much."
She took something out from her pocket, looking around as she placed it in my hand.
It was a bundle of cash.
"Wha....what am I going to do with this?"
"Take it and run."
I froze.
"What?"
She nodded. "Yes. Take it and run. Now is the perfect opportunity to do so. But you have to wait till I go back inside."
I looked at the money.
It is a lot of money.
I can use it and leave the city.
Maybe go to my paternal grandparents' villa.
"Okay. Hurry up and leave right after I walk back into the building." She said, attempting to leave.
"Wait, what about....."
"Go straight to the highway." She gestured at the road behind me. "Board a bus or taxi and run. Leave this city entirely. Go somewhere the boss will never find you. Go now no one is looking." She said, getting on her feet.
I held her hand.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"Um....take Jay....I mean Lil Kai. Take Lil Kai with you into the building."
She let out a scoff, sitting back down.
"I can't, Mia. It will be risky for me. I told you I can only help you to the best I can and that is me giving you the money" She gestured at the money in my hand.
I looked at it.
"Take it and leave now. I can't take Lil Kai in with me because once the boss sees him with me, he will ask after you. What do you want me to tell him?" She asked.
My shoulders fell as I took in her reasons.
I looked at Jay Jay.
He is playing with his toy.
"The boss will have my head if I tell him I couldn't find you." She said.
I looked at her. "Wha....what do you suggest I do?"
"Leave him here and run."
I furrowed my brows.
"That's the only option." She added.
I looked at Jay Jay.
"Leave him and run. Someone will find him here eventually. Just run and save yourself."
I looked at her.
She nodded.
I looked at Jay Jay.
He is putting his toy in his mouth even though it is impossible to fit in.
"Okay. I will leave now. Run right after I have entered the building, okay?" April said, getting on her feet, and walked away.
I stared at her as she headed towards the building. She walked in and I looked around the building filled with glass.
I can't see the inside of the building but my reflection and that of Jay Jay.
I looked around the compound.
There is no one out here. Just us.
No guards or Caleb.
Just us.
This is really a perfect opportunity.
I looked at the money in my hand. It is a lot.
But.....what about Jay Jay?
I looked at him.
I can't leave him here alone.
He is still playing with his toy and putting it in his mouth.
I pulled his hand down.
He returned the toy to his mouth.
I think he is hungry.
I let out a sigh, looking at the money again.
I looked around again.
No one out here. Everyone is busy inside the company.
I looked behind me at the less busy road. I saw a taxi on the other side of the road.
This is a perfect opportunity to run.
I looked at Jay Jay as my heart pounded.
I let out a sigh.
I have no idea when an opportunity like this will come.
I need to take it.
I held Jay Jay's hand.
His eyes moved to me.
My heart reacted.
I released his hand and moved him further on the table so he wouldn't fall.
"See you.....when fate allows it, Jay Jay."
He kept putting his toy in his mouth.
I caressed his hair before getting on my feet.
I walked out of the bench, heading towards the road.
