Chapter 154: Out To Get Her
Chapter 154: Out To Get Her
(Devion’s POV)
I ordered the few warriors still standing to move our captured enemies and the most injured pack members to the underground medical ward at our hidden training base.
As the Alpha, I had to stay strong, even though I could barely stand from blood loss. We’d wait to move everyone to the safehouse makeshift infirmary until the worst wounds were treated.
I sent Byron ahead to quietly bring Helena from the house. Her medical skills would be a huge help, especially with all the bites and deep cuts we needed to treat.
A few minutes later, I heard rushing footsteps. Helena came in, breathing hard as she scanned the bloody scene. Her eyes went sharp immediately, scanning us, sorting out who needed help first.
“Think you can handle a couple of wounded wolves with your medical skills?” I asked, brushing off the question like it meant nothing.
I needed to be treated first so I could then help others. She gave me a quick nod, then hurried back inside to get supplies from the kitchen.
She also called out to Byron, telling him to grab more herbs. He went to the fight locker near the arena. We kept some medical tools and herbs there, for in case we got bloody during our training.
“Bring me these things, and I’ll help him,” she instructed, writing down a list of equipment, her voice firm. Soon, Byron returned with her bundles of herbs, strong-smelling ointments, and extra cloth to wrap wounds.
I lay down weakly on a cot as Helena began cleaning the dirt from the wounds on my chest. Her hands, though rough, moved with what seemed like a mother’s care. She carefully stitched up the deeper gashes.
I didn’t expect the way her gentle touch hit me. I swallowed the sudden tightness in my throat.
As she worked, Helena asked me questions in a low voice about what happened—who attacked us and why. I answered slowly, flinching when I felt the antiseptic sting.
I still didn’t know who gave us out? Was it another betrayer among us? Or one of Kendrick's men? The question ached me because I hate betrayal. And I hardly know where to start looking.
The leading man seemed to already know it wasn't Kendrick when we arrived. That was the troubling part. But now I have him with us to question.
Then I heard Jazmine’s voice from the entrance of the underground level. “No, I have to see him!” She said, clearly was arguing with someone.
A moment later, Dennis came in. “Boss, your little sister refuses to stay back. She wants to see you.”
My worry instincts kicked in. I didn’t want Jazmine to see this mess. She’d already been through too much. Seen too much.
But before I could say anything, she rushed in, eyes wide with emotions at the sight of me. I was blood-soaked, barely conscious, it seems.
“I’m fine, Jazmine. Don’t worry,” I said roughly, trying to sit up straighter even though it hurt so bad. She shook her head and came closer.
Instead of crying, she helped Helena clean the wounds on my shoulder. I was surprised at how steady her hands were. My little sister was growing up—stronger than I’d realized. She was getting good at this too.
"You know I want to learn how to treat the wounded. Now I want to be of help." She said.
I nodded. She'll be a good wolf doctor it seems.
After treating the worst of my injuries and helping the others too, Helena told me firmly that I needed real rest upstairs in my room. I didn’t argue. I was too tired to.
Byron helped me stand, even though his own arm was wrapped tight from a bite. Helena watched us carefully as we made our way upstairs.
Before I left, I grabbed a cell phone from one of the wolves we’d caught. I had plans for that. Once upstairs and in bed, Helena ordered full rest for at least a day.
Jazmine stayed close, sitting beside me in a chair, keeping watch like a silent guard.
I looked at the phone again. It wasn’t locked. I opened the messages and saw one saved contact:
“My Alpha.”
That had to be Hayden, the mastermind behind this mess. I typed a vague message that would sound like it was from his guy.
> “We have the Alpha and are heading back home tomorrow.”
I didn’t care why Hayden wanted me, but I was done waiting. I was done resting. My true healing wasn’t rest. It was her—Gretel.
The woman he’d snatched away from me. My mate. And I was going to meet him as soon as possible. I can't wait much longer.
I let them give me something to sleep. I needed strength for tomorrow. I want to see her again soon. I had to. For my own peace of mind.
When morning came, sunlight filled the room through the curtains, and I woke up slowly. But I didn’t want to stay in bed anymore. I had work to do.
I thought of Gretel, my mate, still staying in Hayden’s stronghold. I needed her even if she didn't need me. And that was enough for me to find strength and keep going.
After breakfast, I stood in front of Helena, Jazmine, and the rest of the team and said what they didn’t want to hear.
“I’m flying out today. We’re going straight to Hayden’s territory. I won’t wait another day.”
Helena and Jazmine both looked at me like I’d lost my mind. If I read their expressions right.
“You’re still hurt,” Helena said sharply. “Your warriors are barely able to stand. You’ll only be risking more lives.” She protested.
“I don’t care. Gretel’s over there. And I'm tired of wasting time before I get her. We leave in one hour.” I commanded.
I didn’t wait for more arguments, because I feared there might be more if I stayed behind. I went to clean up and get physically ready. I wasn't going to change my mind.
Soon we were all gathered downstairs. My best warriors—even injured—were armed and ready. The prisoners we’d captured had been tied up with reinforced chains.
Marco, our tech expert, worked hard overnight to break into the phone’s GPS history to get Hayden’s location.
When we were ready, we moved to the cars. I walked straight to the backseat and leaned against the leather, closing my eyes. I imagined her—Gretel. So far away, yet still in my heart.
Byron brought the hostages out and loaded them into the vehicle. They had healed fast, maybe because they were wolves themselves. But thank God.
We drove to the airport. The team in the car included Helena, Jazmine, Marco, Byron, and a few guards who were still strong enough to fight.
Helena reached for my hand as we neared the jet. “Stay strong, son. We’ll see Gretel soon, God willing.”
I held her hand tight. I was glad she was back into our lives now when I needed some care and guidance for my sanity.
Not only as a doctor but as Gretel’s mother. I saw now that she was kind and might've had genuine reasons for leaving Gretel behind when she did.
Tonight, I will reach my mate. Nothing else mattered as much right now. And I was done waiting to get better.
Gretel… your wolf is coming.
