Chapter 179 The Dream

Chapter 179 The Dream
Ivy POV

The whisper pulled me awake.
I sat upright and looked around the apartment. Moonlight spilled across the bedroom floor, turning everything pale silver.

Beside me, Caden slept peacefully, one arm stretched across the bed. My heart still raced. I slipped out from under the blanket and checked every room.

The living room was empty. The kitchen was silent. Nothing moved outside the windows except the distant lights of New York. I opened the bedside drawer.

The key rested exactly where I had left it. Cold. Still. It showed no sign of the voice that had called my name. After standing there for another moment, I closed the drawer and climbed back into bed.

Caden shifted in his sleep and reached for my hand without opening his eyes. His fingers wrapped around mine. The tightness in my chest eased. I closed my eyes.

The world disappeared. Soft silver mist surrounded me. Still water stretched in every direction, smooth as polished glass. Moonlight shimmered across the surface until the horizon disappeared into white.

There were no mountains. No trees. No sky. Only silence. Only light. I looked down. My feet rested on the water as though it were solid ground.

A quiet certainty settled over me. This wasn't a dream. At least, not an ordinary one.

"Where am I?"

My voice barely disturbed the silence.
A familiar voice answered behind me.
"Where every Keeper comes when their journey is complete."

AsI turned. The Moon Goddess stood a few steps away. She wore simple white clothes that moved gently in a breeze I couldn't feel. Bare feet rested on the water without leaving a ripple.

There was nothing distant or frightening about her. She looked at me the way a mother looks at someone she has waited a long time to see. A smile touched her face.

"You've been carrying questions since the day you met your mate."

A small laugh escaped me."I still have plenty."

"I know."

She turned and began walking. Without thinking, I followed. The mist drifted aside as we passed, opening a quiet path across the endless water.

"For generations," she said, "wolves believed they needed someone to lead every step they took. A Keeper. An Alpha King. Someone to carry every burden."

She looked at me.

"You proved they were stronger than they believed."

I lowered my eyes."I didn't do it alone."

"No."

Her smile deepened."You finally trusted others to stand beside you."

We walked in comfortable silence before the question that had been sitting in my heart finally slipped free.

"So... it's over?"

She nodded.

"The Founding Line has fulfilled its purpose. The Keepers have fulfilled theirs."

She looked toward the silver horizon.
"That story is finished."

A strange ache settled in my chest.
I had spent so long chasing the end that I hadn't stopped to think about what came after.

"If that story is over..." My voice grew quieter. "Who am I now?"

She stopped walking and turned to face me. "You are Ivy."

Nothing more. Nothing less. I stared at her.
"It feels too simple."

"It always was."

I laughed quietly, though tears were already beginning to sting my eyes."I don't know how to live an ordinary life."

"You've never had the chance."

The words settled inside me. For the first time since all of this had begun, I wasn't speaking as the Keeper. I wasn't trying to be brave. I wasn't pretending to have the answers.

"I'm scared."

She waited.

"What if I disappoint everyone? What if one day they need me again and I can't help them? What if I wake up and don't know who I am without carrying the weight of everyone else's future?"

The questions poured out before I could stop them. She never interrupted. She simply listened. When I finally fell silent, she stepped closer and rested two fingers lightly against my forehead.

"You have spent so long saving the world," she said softly. "Now learn how to live inside the world you saved."

Something inside me loosened. A weight I hadn't realized I was still carrying slipped away. The Moon Goddess looked toward the endless mist.

"Before you leave..." Her smile warmed.
"...there are a few people who have been waiting to see you."

Silver light spread across the water.
Three figures slowly emerged from the mist. I stopped breathing. My mother.
Vuk. Elara.

They walked toward me together, their reflections gliding across the silver water.
My mother's smile was exactly as I remembered. Warm. Gentle. Home.

Vuk walked beside her with his hands behind his back, pride written plainly across his face. Elara's eyes held the same quiet kindness they always had.

The Moon Goddess stepped away, giving us space. "This moment belongs to you."

My mother stopped in front of me. For a long moment, neither of us spoke. Then she reached up and cupped my cheek.
Her hand was warm. Real. Tears blurred my vision.

"You did it."

My voice broke. "I didn't know if I could."

A soft laugh escaped her.

"I never doubted you."

I closed my eyes and leaned into her touch, letting myself believe, just for a moment, that I was a daughter again instead of the Keeper.
