It was coming
It was coming
VIOLET'S POINT OF VIEW
We fell into step beside each other, not too close… but close enough that our shoulders brushed once,Twice.Neither of us moved away,The hallway stretched ahead of us, students moving past like waves, voices blending into noise that didn’t quite reach us.
Dylan walked with his hands in his pockets, eyes forward....but I could feel it.He wasn’t fully here.Something was on his mind.......I stole a glance at him.
“…are you going to really tell me why you didn’t sleep last night?” He asked quietly and I didn’t answer immediately.
"And what of you??"I asked and he became mute too and That alone told me everything,His jaw tightened slightly, like he was choosing his words carefully.
“I’ve just been… tense lately,” he admitted after a moment.
“Tense?” I repeated, slowing my steps slightly and He nodded once.
“Yeah.”Silence stretched between us again, but this time it felt heavier.More real.I looked at him properly now.Not just the Dylan everyone saw in the hallway...the confident, easy, almost careless version of him.But this one.The one walking beside me like something was sitting heavily on his chest.
“What is it?” I asked softly and He exhaled through his nose, like he’d been holding that breath for a long time.
“There’s something I really want to tell you,” he said finally and My heart gave a small jump. There it was again. That sentence.
That unfinished thing from last night,I stopped walking for half a second without realizing it.Dylan noticed immediately and slowed too.He turned slightly toward me And for the first time that morning, his expression wasn’t calm at all.It was… conflicted. My voice softened.
“Fine,” I said gently.
“I know you’ve been quite nervous. Even yesterday… you weren’t really comfortable.”His eyes flickered at that.Like I had hit something exactly right. He nodded slowly.
“…yeah.”A pause.Then he added, quieter......
“You noticed.”It wasn’t a question.....I gave a small shrug, trying to hide how much I had noticed.
“I notice things.”That made the corner of his lips twitch faintly.........but it didn’t last,The seriousness came back almost immediately.
We started walking again, but slower now,Like neither of us wanted the conversation to end too quickly.
Dylan glanced at me once… then looked away again.
“…Can I take you somewhere tomorrow?”he suddenly asked and I blinked.
“Tomorrow?”
“Yeah,” he said.......His voice was steadier now, like he’d made up his mind about something.
“It’s Saturday.”I hesitated slightly.
“…Where?”He didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he looked ahead, like he was picturing it.
“A quiet place,” he said finally. My brows lifted a little.
“A quiet place?”He nodded.
“Just… somewhere I can talk properly.”That did it.Something in my chest tightened softly. This wasn’t casual anymore. This wasn’t hallway talk or rushed confessions between classes. This was something he needed space for.Something real.I studied him for a moment and saw He wasn’t joking. He wasn’t playing around.
And strangely… I wasn’t scared.Just curious,And maybe a little nervous too.
“…Okay,” I said softly. His head turned toward me immediately.
“You’re sure?”I nodded.
“Yeah. I’m sure.”A small silence passed between us.Then his shoulders eased.....just slightly.Like he’d been carrying something heavy… and I had just helped him hold part of it without even knowing what it was yet.
“Thank you,” he said quietly. And for some reason, that felt bigger than it should have.
We reached a junction in the hallway where we had to split paths for a moment.Dylan stopped. So did I.For a second, neither of us moved. The noise of students passed around us, but it felt distant again.
Like it always did when it was just us.
“I’ll see you later?” I asked softly and He nodded.
“Yeah.”Then, after a pause.....
“Violet?”I looked up at him.
His expression had softened slightly, but the tension was still there underneath.
“…don’t overthink it,” he said.I almost laughed......Almost.Because he said it like he didn’t already know I absolutely would.Instead, I just nodded.
“I’ll try.”A faint smile touched his lips.
“Good...... I'll be at my private lounge upstairs”He said and I raised my eyebrows.
"You're not coming to class??"I Asked and he chuckled and shook his head.
"See you later Mon Cherie"He muttered and winked at me before walking away. I smiled and bit my lips...... it's been a while he called me that, oh wait.....I had promised him that I'll look for a name for him...... I'm such a bad girlfriend, I thought with a sigh.
For a moment after Dylan walked away, I didn’t move.I just stood there.
Watching the space he had just been in like it might somehow explain everything he wasn’t saying. My chest still felt tight… but not in a bad way.Just full.Too aware......Too awake.
“….....don’t overthink it,” he had said.I almost smiled at that.As if that was even possible.
I finally exhaled and started walking again, this time in the opposite direction.
Ten minutes later, I pushed the library doors open. The sudden quiet hit me immediately. No hallway chaos,No rushing footsteps.Just soft silence, turning pages, and the faint scent of books and dust.
I adjusted my bag on my shoulder and stepped inside.
“Violet!”I barely had time to turn before my phone buzzed and I pulled it out.......it was a text from Mira
Come to the back of the library. Now. We need details about your dateI stared at the message for a second.Of course.I sighed softly… but I was already walking..... it's a good thing I'm already at the library
Of course she called an emergency meeting.
I reached the back section where Mira, Chloe and the rest were already sitting together, clearly waiting. And judging by their faces…They had been waiting patiently annoyed.Mira leaned forward immediately.
“Don’t even sit properly first......talk.”I blinked.
“Good morning to you too.”Amara crossed her arms, eyes sharp but excited.
“Violet. Start talking.”I slowly sat down, placing my bag beside me.
“…about what?”Mira gasped loudly, earning a quick shh from a nearby student.
“Don’t do that,” she whispered aggressively.
“You know exactly what I mean.”Amara leaned in.
“The date, the hallway........The everything.”My cheeks warmed instantly.
“It’s not......”Mira cut me off.
“Don’t lie. We saw it. The whole hallway saw it. Even the lockers saw it.”She said and I groaned and dropped my head slightly.
“You people are dramatic.”Amara smiled.
“So it happened.”I hesitated. That was the problem. What did happen?
“…something happened,” I admitted quietly.That was enough.Mira practically clapped.
“I KNEW IT.”Amara leaned closer, eyes sparkling.
“Start from the beginning.”And so I did.I told them everything that happened at the date........The way the hallway felt different. The way he looked at me like he had something heavy inside him.The way he asked me to meet him tomorrow.By the time I finished, Chloe was already leaning back like her brain was overheating.
“So…” she said slowly,
“Dylan, the emotionally unavailable hallway prince, is suddenly deep and mysterious?”She said and I rolled my eyes.
“He is not a hallway prince.”Amara smirked.
“He kind of is.”I didn’t respond.Because… maybe they weren’t completely wrong.Mira leaned forward again, suddenly softer.
"Never knew Dylan would actually fall in love, I hope........"Chloe was saying when Mira Cut her off immediately.
“But you’re okay though?”she asked and eyed Chloe.
“I think so.”And I meant it.Mostly.There was a short pause before Amara shifted slightly, like something else had just crossed her mind.
“Oh........wait,” she said.
“I forgot. I heard some girls talking about Your mom’s wedding.”My body straightened a little.Right........That.Mira blinked.
“Wait.......Wedding?”Chloe said and I nodded slowly.
“Yeah… next week......why are you guys acting like I didn't tell you guys”I said and Amara’s eyes widened.
“Ywah but you didn't Tell us that it'll be next week Saturday Chloe said with an eye roll.
"I did maybe you guys weren't paying attention"I said and they huffed.
"Your mom is really getting married to Zayn's dad?”I gave a small shrug.
“She said it’s been planned for a while. They just moved the date up because things are getting busy.”Mira leaned back, shaking her head slowly.
“I cannot believe this.”I frowned slightly.
“What?”She pointed at me like it all suddenly made sense.
“So you’re going to have a step......family situation AND a boyfriend situation at the same time?”Amara gasped.
“Mira!”Mira ignored her.
“I’m just saying......this is like a whole drama series.”I groaned.
“It’s not a drama series.”Amara softened slightly, tilting her head.
“…are you okay with it though?”That question made me pause.I thought about it.My mom smiling last night. The calm in her voice. The way she said she wasn’t scared anymore.
“…I think I am,” I said finally.
“I just… didn’t expect it to be so soon.”
Mira nodded slowly, surprisingly serious now.
“Yeah. But if she’s happy, that’s what matters.”Amara smiled softly.
“Plus… maybe it won’t be so bad. New beginnings and all that.”I let out a small breath.
“New beginnings,” I repeated quietly.
Funny.Because that was exactly what everything in my life suddenly felt like.
Dylan. The wedding,My friends sitting in front of me waiting for updates like I was their live broadcast.Everything shifting at once,Mira suddenly snapped her fingers.
“Okay. Enough serious talk.”I blinked.
“What now?”
She grinned.
“Now we focus on the real issue.”
Amara groaned.
“Oh no.”
Mira pointed at me again.
“Tomorrow. The ‘quiet place’ date.”
My stomach flipped slightly at the reminder.
“Oh my God,” Amara whispered. “It’s happening again.”
Mira leaned in with a dramatic whisper.
“Violet… we need updates immediately after.”I shook my head, laughing despite myself.
“You guys are impossible.”But as they kept talking and teasing…My mind drifted.Just a little......To tomorrow. To Dylan’s voice,To whatever he was going to tell me that was making me damn curious and I couldn’t help it…My heart tightened softly again.Because whatever it was…It was coming.
