Nova's POV
My footsteps were slow as I descended the castle stairs. The morning air was quite cool, prompting me to pull my cloak tighter around my body. For some reason, my heart felt light today. Although everything was still uncertain, I was beginning to accept the reality that I was here—not as a prisoner, not as an intruder, but as part of this family. Slowly.
Each step brought a new warmth, and the whispering wind between the stone walls created a soothing melody. I saw sunlight illuminating the courtyard, casting dancing shadows on the green grass. All of this felt like a new beginning.
As I reached the ground floor, the aroma of freshly baked bread filled the air, tempting my growling stomach. An irresistible smile appeared on my face. This family, though initially feeling foreign, was starting to feel like home. In every laugh and story shared, I felt a warmth I had never seen before.
I headed toward the garden I had seen from the window this morning. The grass was still damp with dew, and the flowers blossomed gracefully in the sunlight. Their fragrance was fresh and calming, making me feel as if I had entered a world full of beauty.
I sat on a stone bench beneath a large tree, seeking tranquility among the gently rustling leaves. Opening Liora’s diary that I had held close, I felt a wave of nostalgia. Its pages were filled with neat handwriting, depicting her deep thoughts and feelings.
As I began to read, I became immersed in her written tales. Each sentence brought me closer to Liora, as if she were telling me her story directly. There was joy, sorrow, and hope spilling from every word. I felt connected, as if I could feel everything she had ever experienced.
I looked around, noticing birds chirping and butterflies dancing among the flowers. All of this created a peaceful atmosphere that allowed me to reflect on my own life journey. In the silence of this garden, I began to understand that although the past was not always perfect, there was beauty to be found in every moment.
The diary became a mirror for me, reminding me that everyone has a unique story.
My hand touched the yellowed pages, and I continued reading:
"If one day my child finds this, know that... Mother loves you. Even if I am not by your side, my love will always be in each breath you take, each heartbeat. And if you love someone who is hard to love, then perhaps you inherit my heart—which chooses to endure, even when shattered."
I paused. Those words... somehow felt directed at me as well. Each sentence seemed to speak directly to my heart, awakening feelings that had long been buried.
I could sense the depth of love expressed by Liora, a love not only for her child but also for everyone who had ever felt vulnerability and pain. In those lines, I found the strength I had always sought—an assurance that true love could endure even in the most challenging situations.
My thoughts drifted to the people I loved and how they often were difficult to love. Unconsciously, tears welled in my eyes. I remembered all the moments when I felt hopeless, when love seemed insufficient to overcome the obstacles in our way. But now, with Liora’s words as a reminder, I felt compelled to keep fighting.
“Love that chooses to endure, even when shattered.” That phrase echoed in my mind. It was as if Liora was telling me that it was okay to feel fragile, that resilience in love is a remarkable strength. I thought of Diego, all the uncertainties we faced, and how important it was to keep fighting for each other.
“Nova.”
The voice came from behind me. I turned to see Diego standing there, his hair still a bit tousled, and his eyes gazing at me with an indescribable expression.
“You left without saying anything,” he said softly, walking closer.
“I just wanted to get some fresh air,” I replied, patting the side of the bench.
Diego sat down, looking at the book in my hands. “That’s Mom’s.”
I nodded. “I know. I’m sorry for opening it without permission... but for some reason, I felt like she wanted me to read it.”
Diego was silent for a moment, as if considering my words. “She always had a way of communicating, even after she was gone. Sometimes, I feel like she’s still here, watching over us.”
His words touched my heart. I could feel the profound connection between them, a bond that would never break despite distance and time. “She loved you so much,” I said gently. “You can see it in her writings.”
Diego nodded, his eyes glistening. “She always tried to teach us about love and resilience. Every time I feel doubt, I remember everything she taught.”
“I feel it too,” I replied. “She gives strength through her words. I feel as if she’s speaking to me, reminding me not to give up.”
There was a moment of silence between us, where only the sound of the wind and birds could be heard. In that moment, I realized how deep our feelings were. We were both struggling, but we were also strengthening each other.
“You don’t have to feel alone, Nova,” Diego finally said, his voice gentle. “I’m here for you. We can face everything together.”
I smiled, feeling hope grow within my heart. “Thank you, Diego. That means a lot to me.”
Diego took my hand, holding it tightly. “We will get through this, one step at a time. And maybe, we can learn from Mom to love with all our hearts.”
He then took the book from me. His hands turned the pages slowly, as if touching long-forgotten memories.
“I forgot... how warm my mother used to be,” he murmured. “And how cold this place has felt since she’s been gone.”
I could see the sadness in his eyes, and my heart felt heavy along with his. “That warmth is still there, Diego. Maybe we just need to find it again.”
