Chapter 5
"What on earth are you trying to do? I told you, we're done!"
"I disagree."
I was speechless.
Winfred said gravely, "Ultimately, you're just concerned about my relationship with Mamie. I've made it clear to her that I won't be with her. Let's forget about it, ok?!"
After he spoke, he tried to grab my hand, but I stepped back and avoided him.
His face immediately darkened.
"Sabina, are you sure? I've given you a chance! How long are you going to keep this up? Isn't what you want just an engagement? How about this Saturday, we can get engaged, would that satisfy you?"
"We could even go and officially get married!"
"Shut up!"
I shouted sharply, and Winfred froze.
"Don't think you're something special just because you have some money. The Burke family doesn't rely on you, and it would be better if we saw less of each other. Also, if you dare to harass me again, I'll really call the police!"
Hearing this, Winfred grabbed my hand, but I shook him off forcefully. He staggered backward and eventually fell to the ground, scraping his hands!
Seeing this, I felt a pang of pity and was about to go help him up when Mamie, out of nowhere, rushed in front of me and slapped me!
Without hesitation, I slapped her back, releasing all my anger in that moment.
Winfred, seeing this, was taken aback and yelled, "Stop it!"
"Stop it now!"
I couldn't listen.
I worked out regularly, and she, as frail as a chick in front of me, was no match for me at all.
I quickly pinned her to the ground, punching and kicking, and soon Mamie was bruised and swollen.
A neighbor saw this and immediately called the police.
When the officers arrived and asked what had happened, I pointed at Mamie, "I just wanted to go home, and this crazy woman came out of nowhere and slapped me. And this man, he's harassed me multiple times; they're both in it together!"
Winfred's eyes widened in shock, and Mamie, rubbing her mouth, was furious, "You're lying!"
"I have witnesses. You've been harassing me from my college right up to my doorstep. You are not giving up, are you?!"
Winfred's face turned pale as a neighbor nodded in agreement, "This man suddenly appeared, grabbed Sabina's hand, and she couldn't break free. Then he fell, and this woman came out of nowhere and immediately slapped Sabina. It was insane!"
"These hooligans are completely lawless these days!"
We had been neighbors of over a decade. Today, my parents had just gone out for a walk and, unexpectedly, returned to find this scene.
At that moment, they came back and saw the police, my mother immediately tensed up, "What happened? Sabina!"
Upon seeing them, Winfred tried to explain, "It's all a misunderstanding!"
"You really have the guts to show up!"
My mother glared coldly at him.
"Do we owe you anything? How dare you show up to hurt my daughter? Winfred, I warn you, take that damned woman and get out, or I'll post your filthy deeds online!"
This remark turned Winfred's face livid, not expecting my mother to be so harsh.
"Mrs. Burke, I didn't..."
"You didn't do no shit! Get out! And remember, you started this fight today, we will neither reconcile nor forgive!"
I suddenly remembered, Mamie has always been so annoying, constantly complaining to Winfred about how I bullied her when I was still with him.
Winfred always had a problem with this, putting me in a difficult position each time.
This time, she came looking for trouble, but the police said we were both at fault, and since Mamie was also badly hurt, they advised me to let it go.
My mother, considering my job at the university, warned them sternly and then sent Winfred away.
