Chapter 75 Jessica's Outburst
Chris stared dumbfounded at his father, confusion and surprise burning in his gaze. Had he heard the man right? Loss control and financial accounting duties? To Jessica?
Sarah burst into a loud guffaw. Everyone stared confusedly at her but she kept laughing anyway.
"What's so funny, my dear?" Michael finally asked.
She wiped a tear from her eyes and finally stopped laughing. "Oh dear, you crack me up sometimes."
Michael was confused. "How so my dear?" He arched a confused brow at her.
She looked at him as if he was the one acting weird. "What do you mean how so? Jessica? This is more than a joke!"
Michael shook his head with a soft sigh. "My love, I am being serious--"
"Nonsense!" She barked, cutting him off. "What an outrageous prank this is! You are trying to tell me that this girl will take over my position?" She squinted her eyes softly as if trying to see the sense in what he had just said.
"Care to tell me why you are referring to our daughter in-law as this girl?" Michael relaxed into his seat with an arched brow.
"You couldn't possibly be serious right? This is a prank right?" Jessica spoke up looking just as shocked as everyone else.
Michael turned to look at her with a bright smile on his face. "It's not a prank my dear, I am truly appointing you. I think it's high time you started doing something of value for our family and I know that this will not be an easy feat because of how close the date is but I think I can trust you with this right?" He arched his brow at her.
She nodded her head excitedly. "Yes of course, dad!" She exclaimed with a big smile on her face.
Chris scoffed a laugh. "What exactly is going on in front of me?" He arched his brow. Turning to face his wife, he asked. "Are you fucking my dad now? Is that your revenge?"
Michael sprang to his feet and slammed his fist on the dining table. "What nonsense!" He roared. "How dare you accuse your wife of such a thing?! With your own father?!" He squinted.
Chris relaxed into his seat and crossed his arms across his chest. "It was a question for Jessica, dad and also, if it isn't that then why are you trying to help her get a job? You never liked her so why do you suddenly care?"
"What do you mean I never liked her? She is our daughter in law and I have always liked her. Why else would I be supporting her if I didn't like her?" Michael demanded firmly. "Everything I have done up until this moment is just to shape her into a better woman, to become a better version of herself so people can see that our family is one of the best!"
Chris scoffed a laugh. "Save the excuses for outsiders, dad. I am your son and I know you all too well. Jessica is my wife and I have the final say over what she does and I say she doesn't need this job so you can return mom's position to her."
"Why would you--"
"And what makes you think that I am incapable of making decisions of my own?" Jessica's voice overshadowed Michael and whatever he was about to say.
He turned to look at Jessica and he wasn't the only one. Chris and Sarah were looking at her as well.
Jessica's voice was cold as she spoke, raising her eyes to the same level as her husband's, she continued. "I am a person of my own, I can speak, walk, jump, I can do anything! I am a person with no disabilities mentally and physically so what makes you think that my brain is a toy and my mouth is just for decoration?" Her thin and perfectly shaped brow arched sharply.
Her expression was colder than the arctic, Sarah could feel the eyes of the woman burning through her soul as Jessica casted a single glance at her. Her fist clenched in annoyance at how confident Jessica was and the fact that Michael did nothing about it than to stare with a contented look on his face.
Chris stared at his wife in awe. "Are you talking to me like that right now? What makes you think you have the right?"
"My question exactly." Jessica never showed a sign of anger on her face as she spoke. Not even the slightest creasing of her brow. "What makes you think you have the right to make decisions for me?"
"I am your husband!"
"And I am your wife!" She raised her voice to a similar level as his, if not higher.
"How dare you talk back at my son!" Sarah barked like an irritated dog.
Jessica's stare would have pierced a hole in the woman's face if it could. "This is a couple's argument and you shouldn't interfere. Remember? Those were your words when your son held a knife to my throat! So let us settle this ourselves without your intervention, thank you very much."
Sarah felt her jaw drop in disbelief. She turned to look at her husband, only for Michael to shrug and move aside from the dining table. She could only scoff a laugh of disbelief.
Jessica focused her deathly glare back on her husband. "Remember when I told you not to go after Cara but you did anyway?" Her brow twitched. "You even went to meet her and her new lover just a few days back and didn't think twice when you hit me in the face, embarrassing me in front of all those people."
Michael gasped and Sarah stared in disbelief. All this had happened right under their noses yet they couldn't perceive it!
Jessica turned to look at Michael and Sarah, a wicked grin tugged at her lips. A few maids caught her eyes as well. The women who worked the kitchen.
"Not an impressive audience but it will do." She said with a wicked smirk.
