Chapter 28 The Weekend
Cara picked up her bag before closing time to leave. The investors had apologized because they had to cancel the dinner. Each of them were busy with something important that had come up and she didn't actually mind it.
She was too tired mentally to even relate properly with them so it was a good thing that they had to call it off.
"Hello Maisie?" Cara called her personal assistant. "I'll be heading out early, any report you would like to share before I leave?"
"Can you wait for just five minutes ma'am? I'll be in your office before then with a report." Maisie responded.
"Okay, no problem. I'll be waiting."
She hung up and relaxed into her seat. Five more minutes was no problem.
Exactly three minutes later, Maisie was in her office with a report tendered properly. Cara went through everything and was finally done after about fifteen minutes.
"I'll be on my way now." She said to Maisie who responded with a bow.
Getting to her feet, she heard a knock on her door and the secretary popped her head through it. "Hello Ms Smith? Mr Armani is here to see you."
Cara was surprised. They didn't have any reason to see each other that day so it confused her. Or maybe she had forgotten?
"Do I have a meeting with Mr Armani today?" Car asked her personal assistant.
Maisie shook her head. "No, you don't."
Cara didn't know why he could have come even though they didn't have any plans to hang out besides from work either. But it was Romeo, someone she could never turn away. "Let him in."
Her secretary nodded and disappeared.
"You are excused now, Maisie." Cara said to her personal assistant.
Maisie bowed her head slightly and turned around towards the door. On her way out, she almost bumped into Romeo and her cheeks flushed red. "Oh... Mr Armani, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there."
Romeo smiled, his dimples growing deeper. "It's alright, no need to apologize."
She tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled sheepishly. Almost every single girl in the establishment was crushing on Romeo and they weren't to blame. His eyes alone were enough to mesmerize any woman.
"Romeo," Cara spoke up reminding her personal assistant she was in the room as well. "Come in will you?"
"Sure." Romeo responded and walked past Maisie.
"Please be sure to close the door Maisie." Cara smiled softly as she spoke.
Maisie turned around and returned the smile, stealing the opportunity to glance at Romeo's firm back. She almost let out a whimper as she undressed him with her eyes. Clearing her throat, she finally walked out and closed the door.
Cara rolled her eyes and shook her head disapprovingly. She was getting tired of seeing every female staff of hers drool over Romeo like he was some delicious meal beautifully served.
And maybe she was also jealous, seeing other women acting around him like that. Either way, it was irritating and annoying.
Romeo noticed the look on her face and couldn't help but to smile. He loved it when she acted petty whenever she was jealous. But was that something he was something to be happy about?
He cleared his throat. "So, you will not believe who finally bagged the deal the Armani family have been chasing for over two years."
"No way, are you serious?" Cara curiously asked.
He chuckled softly. "I did it! I finally did it! God you have no idea how I'm feeling right now!"
"Oh my God!" Cara went to him and threw her arms around him. "Congratulations." She smiled from ear to ear. "I am really happy for you."
Romeo was taken aback by the sudden hug but made no attempt to fight it. A gentle and cool smile touched his face and his hands wrapped slowly around her waist. He pulled her tighter against himself. "Thank you. This means a lot more to me than you think."
The moment seemed to last forever yet both of them wanted it to last longer. The warmth their bodies provided gave them this sense of safety and love. It showed them just how much both of them cared about each other.
His arms around her waist were firm and possessive. His scent filled up her nose and gave her a sense of relaxation. The rhythm of his heart beating against hers was the most beautiful music she had ever heard.
The moment she realized she could remain in his arms forever, she pulled away from before the thought became comfortable in her head and she would find herself doing something crazy.
And by doing something crazy, that would be her pressing her lips against his before she even realized it.
Clearing her throat, she smiled. "Congratulations." She punched him jokingly on his forearm. "I mean it."
"I know you do." His dimples went in as he smiled. "And I want to thank you too because so many times, I thought about giving up. I mean... It has never been this hard for me to bag a deal, if it's hard then it's impossible. That's what I thought. But then you walked back into my life a year ago and told me not to give up.
"You told me that the greatest jewels were always the hardest to find but in the end, it is always worth it. Thanks to your motivations, I was able to keep going and that led me here. So thank you."
She nodded her head with a bright smile on her face. "I think I deserve some kind of compensation here don't you think?"
Romeo let out a soft chuckle. "You're right. You do. Which is why I came all the way here to invite you to spend the weekend with me."
Her eyes grew wide and her ears pricked. Had she heard him right? He wanted her to do what? Spend the weekend with him? What?!
"What did you just say?" She asked wide eyed and jaw hanging open from surprise and awe.
