Chapter 165 Yes, I Do
It all felt like a dream, could it really be the end? The Knowles had been reduced to nothing but harmless insects that were being fumigated from her life by the police.
She had never felt so relieved. It felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off her chest.
Chris was missing, but the police assured her it was only a matter of time before he would be caught and punished according to the law.
As much as she despised Jessica for everything she had done to her, she helped her relocate to a new city with her son where she would be safe and also deployed strong security guards just in case.
If it wasn't for Jessica in the end, things could have really gone awry for her.
But all of that needed to be forgotten, that day was about to be the best day of her life.
Dressed in her wedding gown, memories of how much she struggled, how hard it was for her to get to where she was at the moment flooded her mind as she walked down the aisle.
Her arm interlocked in her father's, she remembered everything.
How she had tried to be a perfect wife for Chris, walking down the aisle with her father as well, but things were different now.
Sure, she was walking down the aisle for the second time, but the man waiting for her was different, the wedding was bigger and better, the love was massive, her emotions were different.
She was happy. Truly. Her heart was overfilled with joy. She would have doubted if anyone told her that she would one day find happiness like this.
A handsome young man awaited her by the alter, his emerald eyes shone with so much love and admiration that she felt her cheeks redden.
She was not sure she had never seen any man as handsome as he was. No one had ever stared at her with so much love before. No one had managed to make her feel as safe as his gaze did.
She felt so warm inside, her stomach churned nervously. It was almost like it was her first wedding.
Romeo stood by the alter, dressed in his suit. How could a man look so good in a suit? How could someone ever have such beautiful eyes? How was it possible that one man looked as handsome as ten handsome men?
How could something like that ever be fair? How was it fair that such man happened to fall in love with a woman like her?
Her happy ending was happier than any happy endings ever recorded in history. Cinderella? Snow white? Rapunzel? Aurora? Tiana? Of all of the princesses in the world of fairytale, she was the one with the happiest ending ever.
Sure she was not a princess neither was she getting married to a prince, but Romeo was ten times better than a prince. Better than a king.
Normally, she would have began to doubt whether she really deserved such happiness or not. But she knew she deserved it, she had a right to it just like anyone and everyone else did.
The key to ones happiness was in their hands and he could decide whether to open the door to joy or keep it locked forever.
Standing right opposite the man of her dreams, she wanted to cry. Not of sadness but of overwhelming joy.
A smile drew on Romeo's face as his lips curved upwards. His eyes burnt with love and the impatience to be joined to the woma of his dreams was evident in his face.
Cara's father took Romeo's hand in his and said to him, "Please, take good care of my daughter. Give her the best of everything and more importantly, keep her happy at all times."
Romeo nodded enthusiastically. "I will, I promise. I will keep her safe, I assure you."
He pulled Romeo into his arms and hugged him softly, patting his shoulders gently. "Thank you so much for everything you have done for her. You have no idea how grateful we are. We can never repay you for all you have done."
"You have repaid me, I am the one who can never pay you for the beautiful soul you have blessed me with. Cara is worth more than gold and diamonds. I can never reply you for giving her to me."
With a smile, Cara's father stepped aside for the wedding ceremony to continue.
The father stood beside them, ready to join them. "Do you, Cara Smith, take Romeo Armani, to be your lawfully wedded husband, in good health and sickness, in happiness and sadness, in wealth and poverty, for better for worse, through all tribulations this sinful world could bring your way, to love and hold dearly to your heart, to care for and provide solace for all eternity?" His voice was gentle but audible as he asked.
Cara smiled, holding back her tears of joy. "I do."
Loud cheers and applause filled the hall but quieted down in time for Romeo to accept his vows.
"Do you, Romeo Armani, take Cara Smith, to be your lawfully wedded wife, in good health and sickness, in happiness and sadness, in wealth and poverty, for better for worse, through all tribulations this sinful world could bring your way, to love and hold dearly to your heart, to care for and provide solace for all eternity?"
"I--"
The sound of a gun being fired cut them off, screams filling the air in an instant.
Cara stared worriedly around, trying to find the source of the gun but she couldn't find anyone with a weapon.
Her eyes fell back on her husband, standing still looking dazed, then she saw it.
Blood trailed down from his chest and mouth, he looked just as confused as she was until he looked down at his body to realize he was the one that had been shot.
A loud scream drew from her lips as she rushed to him before he could fall to the ground.
"Ro... Romeo..." Her lips trembled as she attempted to call out his name.
Her hands trembled non stop, loud pitched ringing filled her ear until everything went silent as he muttered words caught her ear.
"I... Do..."
