Chapter 16 Celebration
The event didn't take too long, all they had to do was sign a few papers and they were done. The one month waiting period of course still stood and they would have to come back then to finalize their divorce but this stage had been completed.
“Carina,” Romeo called her name tenderly. “Now that you are officially single, what do you say we finally go on that trip we have been postponing?”
She gave him a weak smile. “Okay. But let's leave tomorrow.”
“No problem. So I was thinking maybe we could use this as an opportunity to celebrate your divorce. You have been set free from the shackles of your marriage so let's celebrate–”
“Cara!” Chris called out her name. “Wait right there.” He ordered.
Cara sighed and crossed her arms below her breast. She had covered herself up with Romeo's jacket and the only meaning Chris had read to it was that they were head over heels for each other which did nothing but infuriate him.
“Isn't this all too soon?” His voice burnt with rage. “You're not even going to wait till the waiting period is over before you start walking around with your boyfriend?”
“At least she didn't start dating while she was still married to you.” Romeo said plainly.
“Zip it!” Chris spat out disdainfully. “I wasn't talking to you, handbag.”
“Woah, watch it there lover boy.” Romeo stated. “Learn to hold back on your tongue before someone rips it out for you.” His expression had darkened and his voice ran cold.
It was so cold that Cara shuddered. It was always strange to her when she saw that side of him.
“Is that what you did to my dad?” Chris questioned. “Did you threaten him like that and force him to invest in Cara's business?”
“He simply saw potential in Carina's company and willingly wanted to invest. He kept his personal feelings away from work unlike some people.” Romeo's voice was too cool for Chris.
Chris wanted to sound just as calm and collected but he was shaking with anger. It burnt him up from the inside and Romeo's cool demeanor and voice fueled the flames.
“Dmn you, you little–”
“What do you want, Chris?” Cara cut him off. “I don't think I owe you the courtesy of standing here and watching you speak rudely to my guest.” Her face was null of emotions to match her tone.
Chris scoffed a laugh. “Your guest? Fine, whatever. I'm not here for your guest anyway. I'm here for you. I want to know how long you have been seeing this man, you are too close to have just met each other. Have you been having an affair?”
Cara scoffed, her lips curving as she smiled. “Has Jessica gotten to your head that much? Tsk tsk tsk. I'm not like you, Chris, no one is as selfish and heartless as you.”
“Me? Selfish?” He pointed at himself and chuckled. “I stood by you for two whole years?! Wanting nothing but a child that you couldn't produce! But now, my baby is inside Jessica, I'm having a baby! What you couldn't give me.”
Jessica's lips curved into a proud smile where she stood as she touched her belly lightly.
Cara blinked. Her heart felt as heavy as the wright of the world against one's shoulder. Those words hit her in ways she had never expected.
She didn't know why she couldn't have a child even though the doctor said she was okay. They were both okay. But nothing she ever did worked out.
Tears threatened to fall down her face and her breath shuddered.
Romeo suddenly gripped Chris by the collar with just one firm grip. His eyes had turned cold and his voice, grim. “I told you to watch your tongue before someone rips it out for you, if you're not careful, that someone will be me. And when I say I'll rip out your tongue, I'll fcking do it, literally! You don't want to make me angry.” His glare held death.
Cara touched his shoulders tenderly and he involuntarily let go of Chris’ collar. Anger still burnt in his gaze but he flashed Chris a smile when he noticed how frightened he had become.
Cara smiled softly and took a step forward towards Chris. “Sure, I couldn't have a baby for you but you don't know how grateful I am that I didn't bear a child for you. Just the thought of you being the dad of my child scares me to death! I would rather remain without a child than have my baby call you dad.”
She turned to walk away but stopped and turned back. “Oh! And, be sure to check if there is anything inside the disgusting stomach of hers and if there is, make sure it's yours.” She smiled and walked away.
“You're just jealous because you will never have a child!” Jessica hurled out, unable to hold her anger.
But Cara didn't stop, she walked towards Romeo's car and slammed the door when she got in.
Romeo hurried after her and drove away.
“That fcking barren slt! How dare she talk like that when she should be begging for your forgiveness?!” Jessica said to Chris. “She deserves to be punished somehow! We need to punish her!”
Chris stared at that car she had gotten into as it drove away. That woman used to be his wife. He used to get back from work and meet her at home, he used to sit at the dining table and enjoy her mouth watering delicacies, he used to climb his bed and meet her by his side. All those things and many more, he used to do with her.
But now she was longer his to do those things with, she belonged to someone else.
Just thinking about it now made him feel so angry.
