Chapter 138 Fight For Custody

Chapter 138 Fight For Custody
The house was modest yet huge at the same time. Every piece of furniture was white and calm, framed arts decorated the white wallpapered walls and then some frames of Abigail and a little boy.

Cara stared exceptionally at that frame. It caught her attention. "You didn't tell me you were a mother."

Abigail, who had processed into the kitchen, popped her head out and glanced at Cara. "Huh? And also, juice or tea?" She asked.

"I said," Cara turned away from the frame and turned to face Abigail. "You did not mention it to me that you are a mother. And also, juice."

"Oh..." Abigail said softly. She returned to the kitchen and poured a glass of orange juice for Cara before returning to the living room.

They both sat at the dining and Cara received the juice with a smile and took a sip from it. "mmph... Hand made?" Her thin brow arched.

Abigail nodded with a gentle smile. A sigh left her mouth. "He is cute isn't he?" She was staring at the picture now.

Cara responded with a nod and took another sip from her glass. "Where is he by the way? School?"

Abigail shook her head, a sad expression dawned on her face. "My husband and I, we... We parted ways..." Her eyes fell on her fingers that fiddled with each other. "Two years ago, and he took custody our son because back then, I didn't have anything in my name.

"No house or car or even enough money to prove that I can provide a good life and a proper upbringing for our son. He won without a fight but I am going to charge for custody again and this time, I am prepared."

A heavy sigh left her mouth, originating from the bottom of her heart. The heaviness was weighing her down. "The past two years of my life have been years of self redemption and image building. I have literally never worked so hard before in my life.

"All I wanted was to acclaim so many properties in my name and capital as well. Just about enough to get my son back. Lately, my ex husband seems to be losing funds and assets, his new wife is ruining him.

"I am not saying I am happy about that, but it is the perfect chance for me to file for custody. I can win my son back. He wants to come anyway." Emotions burned in her dark eyes but they didn't shed a single tear.

As filled as the house was with expensive furniture and home appliances, it still somehow seemed empty.

Cara felt her own heart grow heavy, such sadness belonged in movies and not in real life. She could not even phantom the pain that Abigail must be feeling. What she must be going through.

She suddenly found herself thinking about her own future. If, by happenstance, she and Romeo divorced, she stood no chance at winning custody no matter what she did.

He has influence, power, money, connections, capability. He had everything. She had those too but it struggled to reach the quarter of the one he had.

She had to shake her head to draw herself back to reality. It wasn't about her but about her friend. She reached out and touched Abigail's hand softly and a warm smile formed on her face. "You are going to win and I am going to make sure that happens."

Abigail's eyes lit up. "How are you going to do that?" Her thin brow twitched.

Cara sat up with her back straightened. "So my husband-- well fiance-- is Romeo Armani."

"Wait..." Abigail took a moment to think. "Armani? As in THE Armani?" Her eyes widened.

Cara folded her lips inward and smiled, nodding her head in response.

Abigail hit her playfully, still left in shock. "Oh my goodness! You! Why are you just telling me that now? Well I mean I know I never actually asked for his name but still! It's a name that even the angels in heaven will know so you could have told me! You should have told me!" She hit her again.

Cara broke out in a soft laughter. "Okay, alright. I'm sorry for not telling you. Well I'm telling you now. If I tell him about your situation, he can take it up for you and help you win the court case."

Abigail felt tears sting at her eyes. "That would really be amazing. Do you really think that he will take out time from his busy schedule to help me, someone he doesn't even know."

"Well I am his wife and you are my friend so he will help you." Cara explained.

"Fiancee." Abigail corrected.

Cara hit her playfully on the shoulder with a soft chuckle. "Whatever. I will be his wife anyway so it doesn't matter. Anyway, knowing Romeo, he will need some in-depth reasons to fight this case for you. Do you think something bad is happening to him?"

Abigail was silent for a moment before speaking up. "Well... I think his new wife is abusive of our son. She never liked him. If I can find a way to get proof of that then I would not even need to disturb your husband to help me."

"Well, we will work on it together and get the evidence. Aside from work which i am currently being forced to take a break from because of my pregnancy, I have nothing else going on in my life at the moment so--"

"Hello?" Abigail cut her off softly. "Your wedding? Is that not something very important?"

"It is." Cara responded sharply. "Of course it is! What I meant was..." She sighed. "What I mean is, i am available to help you."

"Relax, I was only pulling your leg." Abigail said with a smile. She held on to Cara's hands now and squeezed them softly. "If you can really help me get my son back then i will be really grateful."

Cara smiled. "Then... You owe me one."
