Chapter 112 An Ordinary Ring

Chapter 112 An Ordinary Ring

Those were the exact same words she had said to him just now, to take a break, so why was she so heartbroken? Why did she feel a sudden chill snake up her back? Why did she crumble to the ground? Why was it hurting her so much?

Tears trailed down her eyes freely, her heart beat like it was about to explode, it was not built for such pain.

The way it made her feel, watching him walk out on her and slam the door without looking back, she was at the edge of losing her mind. Her heart was soon to explode.

"Come back..." She mitered softly, hoping he had not left. Hoping he was still by the door outside, hoping he was only waiting for a second before walking back in and engulfing her in his arms. "Come back to me..." She muttered softly.

She strength to even speak any louder than that had evaded her. No matter how hard she tried to reach for it, it kept slipping out of her grasp.

So she remained on her knees, tears washing down her face like heavy rain, heart as burdened as ever, soul as drained as it could ever get. Hoping her lover would just come back to her.

But the door remained shut...

Romeo stood outside the door, hands trembling with anger and pain, heart aching and head throbbing like he was hit with a bat.

His eyes felt watery but he blinked them away, holding onto the last strand of sanity he had left, he managed fo keep himself by the door, just waiting there.

Why did she have to make him feel so guilty? Like it was too greedy of him to just want to be her husband.

All he wanted was the joy of being called husband to Cara Smith, he did not even care whether she chose to remain as Smith even after marriage, it would be hard to convince his parents but he was more than willing and ready to do anything for her.

But would she even appreciate it from him? Why was she making such a fuss about becoming his wife? What exactly did she want? Why was she so insecure?

Why was she making him feel like he was the only one that was truly in love? He was not asking for all of her heart, no, all he wanted was a space. A space in there to call his own.

Did she not care about him as much as he did for her? He was always the one that went to her first, called out to her first, reached out to her first, and he was not complaining.

But maybe just this once, just to make him feel loved as well. Just this once, if she could just call out to him, call out his name, chase after him and ask him not to go. If she could just whisper his name, a single breathe of his name, just to ask him to stay.

But the door remained shut...

He could not bear to hurt her, he hated when she was hurt at all, not to mention the reason being him.

He reached for the door knob, his hand wrapping around it. But a moment's hesitance was all it took.

He removed his hand from the door knob slowly and reluctantly. Not giving in to his feelings of longing, he turned around and walked away.

Both of their hearts were filled with heaviness and longing for each other, neither of them wanted anything more than that, but the simple assumption and conclusion of both of them were enough to push them farther apart.

'He doesn't love me enough, that's why he did not come back. That's why he did not bother to understand me, that's why he walked out on me in the first place and proposed a break up without even feeling sorry for me.

'If only he loved me a little bit more then he would have not thought to hurt me the way he did. He would have taken my side no matter what and promised to always stand by my side and not even raise his voice at me.'

She thought to herself.

'She doesn't love me enough, that is why she is pulling away from being my wife. That is why she is looking for excuses rather than just saying it bluntly to my face.

'If only she loved me just a little bit more, then she would not repel from my last name like it was something venomous, she would not see it like a big burden being placed on her shoulders. She would have called out to me before I even got to the door and asked me to stay with her.'

He thought to himself.

Cara laid on her large bed, feeling lonely and empty inside. She stared at the expensive jewel wrapped around her ring finger, realizing how worthless it seemed now that it had been drained of its meaning.

It was supposed to be more than it looked, a symbol of a promise of what was to be, a sign that showed she belonged to someone, someone had loved her so much that he was forced to claim her so another man would not.

A promise made to her that now, you are no longer my girlfriend but my fiancée and in only a little while, you will become my wife.

But now that she had fought with Romeo, the jewel had lost its meaning. It was just an ordinary ring. Rich accessory.

She wanted to take it off her finger, their marriage was as doomed as it was, but she could not find the courage to do so.

It's over, she told herself, take off his precious jewel, she said to herself. But she traced the band that was around her finger and her mind wandered back to the moment when he had prophesied his love to her and made that promise to her.

Tears trailed down her delicate face as sleep came and swept her off her feet and into the dream land.
