Chapter 70

Chapter 70

Iris Bennett's POV

The moment I saw the face of the person standing by the window, I felt an impulse to flee from this place.

Why was he here?

But this was the King's hospital, so anyone could appear here. I had no right to question it.

"Eric?" I finally changed my tone, opening my mouth with mere curiosity.

Greenstone Pack was a powerful and brutal pack, and accordingly, their Alpha was known for his cold-bloodedness and formidable strength.

This was a hospital. I didn't want to invite unnecessary trouble.

But he showed no intention of approaching. He just stood there, looking at me with a complicated gaze.

His image overlapped with a silent figure in my memory. But how could that be? These two people were completely different. I was so frightened by this terrible thought that I froze in place, even lowering the hand I had already raised.

"I heard you're having some trouble. I'm serious about discussing this with you," he said, looking at me gravely.

"As long as you're willing to become my Luna, I can do anything for you and Silvermoon Pack."

"No, we barely know each other. I don't know why you'd have such an idea," I answered decisively.

Eric walked toward me. He studied me but ultimately maintained a safe distance. "This isn't our second meeting, Iris. For some reason, you seem to have forgotten many things from the past."

So Eric really was that person?

But how could that be? Looking at his face, I began to doubt my judgment.

He looked completely different from that person, though they were somewhat similar when smiling. But even if he was that person, it didn't matter.

"Looks like you've forgotten everything?" Eric chuckled softly. "On my first day as a transfer student, you were the only one who greeted me."

I remembered what he was talking about.

Eric was a transfer student at our school, and many people disliked him. They thought that since he wasn't an Alpha's child, he shouldn't receive so much attention.

I didn't care whether he was an Alpha's child or not. To me, he was just an ordinary friend.

Later, I heard that Greenstone Pack's original Alpha had left this world due to an accident, and a young man who had never appeared in public took over the position.

But I never expected it would be him.

"Don't worry, I'll remember this kindness," he had vowed to me seriously back then.

"You're different from them, Iris. I think you're the one who's most like an Alpha."

I took it as a joke. For me at that time, the only thing I wanted was to become Adrian's Luna.

But regardless, my dream had now come true, in a way.

I came back to my senses and looked up seriously at the man before me.

"No, of course I remember. But when I helped you, I wasn't expecting any repayment," I sighed. "No matter who it was, I would have helped in that situation."

His expression showed some disappointment. In him, I saw myself.

"Alright, it's just... I thought you'd forgotten me. When I saw you last time, I thought you hated me."

His tone was incredibly aggrieved. "At the very least, I hoped you'd give me a chance to speak properly in front of you."

"That was supposed to be a private meeting between Zoe and me. When she brought you along, I was very suspicious of her motives. To me at that time, you were no different from any other wolf," I said directly.

His image now was completely different from before. With such a fierce Alpha demeanor, I might even think he was here to avenge Zoe.

He stood there stunned, looking at me with a strange expression.

"I'm sorry, I have some things to take care of," I said with a smile, stepping past him.

If this had happened before the incident with Silvermoon Pack, I probably wouldn't have bothered saying this much to him.

But now, I had seen many things clearly.

Some things weren't that important, which was why we faced our current predicament. However, these absurdly wrong things would soon be corrected.

Amelia walked up to me and couldn't help but exclaim as she watched the figure that had just left.

"Who was that? He looked like he was here to cause you trouble. You're not hurt, are you?"

She grabbed my hands and examined them carefully, only relaxing after a few seconds.

"Thank goodness. If something happened to you right here, I really couldn't forgive myself."

I had called her to discuss Adrian's mother's health issues, and I had been standing alone in the corridor waiting for her. I smiled and shook my head at her.

"No, don't worry, I'm fine now. I'm already happy just seeing you. That was Eric, the Alpha of Greenstone Pack. We've met before."

"Oh! That person, I remember now. How did he get so big? But last time he was with Zoe, so you should still be careful. I think he might very well hurt you."

"No. He just chatted with me, though it wasn't very pleasant." I shook my head. "He said he could help me solve the pack's problems. I knew what he meant, but I couldn't accept his goodwill. I didn't want to waste both our time."

I also realized I had been wasting time with Adrian, which was why I was trying to correct this mistake as much as possible.

"No, that's not the point. Don't you know that Zoe's main sponsor is him? It's hard not to suspect he's here to get revenge for Zoe," Amelia lowered her voice, leaning toward me.

"You mean he also believed that rumor?" I paused what I was doing and looked up at Amelia.

I had never considered this.

"Of course. I trust you because I know what kind of person you are. But he's been staying by Zoe's side—it's hard not to believe her, right?" Amelia said, waving her hands. "And even if he doesn't have such thoughts himself, Zoe could still use this to hurt you, couldn't she?"

"Alright, don't worry, I understand." I patted her shoulder gently.

Whether or not he truly liked me, staying by Zoe's side meant he would inevitably hear rumors about me. She could easily exploit this.

When that time came, I would still be in danger.

"I'll figure something out."
