CHAPTER 120- ARE YOU CALLING ME CRAZY
CHAPTER 120- ARE YOU CALLING ME CRAZY
"Hi, Mum," Asher said as he watched his mum walk into the house. He had gone earlier to set up a voice recorder while she was still out, and he had told all her staff to go to their quarters and remain there until further notice.
"Hi, baby, how are you?" his mother asked, walking towards him and engulfing him in a hug while leaving a kiss on his cheeks.
"Where are my staff?," she asked, suddenly noticing how quiet the whole house is.
"I told them to stay in their quarters," Asher responded.
She turned to him, concern now written all over her face. "Baby, are you okay? Is everything all right?," she asked, as though now noticing he wasn't looking as good as he should be.
"Yeah, Mum, I'm fine. I just needed to talk to you alone, without anyone around."
"Okay, should we sit down, or should we go to the study?" she asked.
"Here is fine, Mum." Asher quickly replied, realising that if they had the talk elsewhere, he might not be able to get it on recording, considering he set up the recorder in the living room.
"Okay then, what do you want to talk about?"
Asher took a deep breath in as he said, "Mum, I want to ask you about my ex-girlfriends, and I need you to be completely honest with me."
"Oh, baby, is that what is bothering you?" She said. She made an attempt to get up and leave as she said, "Baby, don't worry yourself about them, they were no good for you anyways."
"Is that why you hurt them?" he blurted out, which caused her to freeze in her steps.
"Well, I was just protecting you, and I will do it all over again," she said, now with anger written all over her face.
Asher was dumbfounded at that point. He wasn't expecting that response from her. He was expecting her to feign ignorance and act like she didn't know what he was talking about.
"What?" He asked, stuttering. "Mom, what did you do to them?"
"Oh, puh-lease," she said, rolling her eyes. "The less you know, the better."
"No, Mom, I want to know, I deserve to know, especially if you insist that what you did, you did to protect me."
"Wait, is this about your new girlfriend? What's her name even, Kiya?"
"What has this got to do with Kiya, Mum? Did you try to hurt her too?"
"Oh, I guess it's not about her then."
"Mother," Asher said, now getting highly irritated and angry. "If you don't tell me right now what you did to those girls, I will leave this place, and you will never see me again."
Claudia looked at him, studying his face as she did. She was contemplating challenging him, but when she saw how serious he was, she knew he wasn't bluffing, so she agreed.
"Well, I had to protect you somehow from them," she said, stuttering.
"Protect me from what exactly?" Asher said, exasperated.
"They are all gold diggers, and they just wanted to plant themselves somehow in your life," she said.
"Mum, can you hear how delusional you sound right now? So because you think they are gold diggers, you made it your mission to make them disappear? Howwww?"
"Well, to prove my point, I offered that little bitch Nicole a lot of money in exchange for her leaving you alone, and guess what? She didn't hesitate; she took it without batting an eyelash. So of course I wasn't going to allow her to make off with such a huge amount of money, so I took care of it."
Asher's mouth fell wide open, and as if dreading the answer, he asked, "And how exactly did you take care of it?"
"I think it's best you don't know that," she said.
"No, Mother, I need to know everything, down to the tiniest detail."
"Well, I told Death to take care of it, okay? I told him to make her disappear forever."
Asher's eyes widened in horror, and he couldn't believe the person standing in front of him was his mother. He felt the air go out of his lungs as he struggled to breathe.
"Asher, Asher," his mum screamed, shaking him out of his daze and trying to get him to breathe. When he came to himself, his eyes turned to look at her with a mix of disgust, fear and disappointment all at the same time.
"What about the other girls?," he barked at her, now fuming with anger.
"I am not going to tell you that," she replied with an equal amount of anger. "I was barely able to get you to start breathing again just from this information. Just know I took care of them, and I don't regret it one bit, and I will do it all over again if it means protecting you and your little sister."
"Mother, you're being absolutely delusional. And the fact that you're convincing yourself that you did it to protect me is even crazier," Asher said. "I can't believe you are my mother," he spat out. "I should have known that since when Dad died, something snapped in you and you lost it. I should have gotten you necessary help. I knew you could take things to the extreme, but I never would have thought you'd ever get to this extreme."
"Are you calling me crazy?" Claudia asked.
Asher shouted, "Yes, Mother, you are absolutely crazy, and you need..."Before he could complete his statement, he felt a hard hand hit his face.
"Don't you ever call me crazy again, I am still your mother, Asher Smith." And with that, she turned around and walked away.
Asher could feel a sting, not just from where his mother planted a slap on his face, but he could feel the tears in his eyes at the realisation of what is about to happen to his mother and how his life is about to change forever.
He gently took out the voice recorder, sent the file to his phone and immediately sent it to one of the agents at the NBI with the caption, 'That's all I could get you.' He knew that's all they needed to put his mother away. He may never find out what happened to the other girls, especially if his mum doesn't speak up, but he knew it really wouldn't change the fact that she was going to get the maximum sentence for what she did to Nicole.
