CHAPTER 14: ALPHA'S CONFUSION

Ayla's POV.

This had to be a nightmare.

I swallowed hard to control my anxiousness as I felt my knees wobbling on their own. I still couldn't believe I was standing next to the man who killed my beloved father.

"Yes, Dara." My voice trembled as my mind was filled with memories. "His eyes depict the monster who murdered my father that night. I can still recall his smell and those bloody eyes."

My heart pounded like crazy because I knew that wasn't good news. I need to get out of here, or else I'll helplessly lose my head in front of Alpha Liam.

"He is a threat to your life, Ayla. We know what he's capable of. He killed your parents and could use this opportunity to harm you."

I tried my best to act strong despite my wolf's warning. I could feel her concern for me like she was telling me that something was about to go wrong sooner or later.

Everyone was well-behaved, including Alpha Liam and Alpha Isaac who wanted to continue the fight a while ago. Even Vincent was not given the chance to say a word unless permitted by the Zeta.

The tension was suffocating. There's the same level of bloodlust emitted by him before he and his men killed my father.

"A-Alpha Liam..."

I turned my gaze toward the man standing beside me. Trying to overcome the fear not only for my own safety but for Alpha Liam's welfare as well.

"We need to leave," I urged with my eyes intently staring at him and his current condition. "Your wounds are bleeding. Your cuts are too deep. Despite your healing ability, I know it would take a couple of minutes to get back to normal."

I draw a deep breath, praying that my words were able to convince him. I don't want Alpha Liam to be involved any further, not now that I am facing the biggest threat of my life.

"No!" Alpha Liam's voice carried so much power as if he was telling me that he was doing everything to overcome the intimidating force brought by the Zeta.

His tone was thunderous enough to make me distance myself from him. Determination was also burning in his eyes, which I found confusing.

How could I stop myself from overthinking, knowing that this commotion started because of me?

"I must speak with the Zeta, Ayla. I need to kill Isaac right here, right now!"

"But your wounds, Alpha..." my worried voice deepened as I tried my best to stop him.

Alpha Liam just shook his head and stared at me sharply. "A small wound won't stop me," he said with an unwavering tone. "I'm not as weak as you think."

He turned around to meet Zeta's gaze as he leaned against the cold wall. His arms were now crossed across his broad chest.

"If you kill him, there will be chaos," the Zeta warned. "I know you're well aware of the consequences, Alpha Liam."

Hearing those words from the monster who killed my father was too much for me to handle.

What's the point of showing your wisdom and concern to the Alphas if you've done more than that?

Is it because the elders think highly of themselves that they assume no responsibility for killing the innocent?

"That's no big deal," Alpha Liam answered. "I am chaos itself, Zeta."

The Zeta shook his head and took a deep breath. "And because of that, you want to start a war?" he questioned. "What's the point?"

A faint chuckle escaped Alpha Liam's lips as he turned to look in my direction. Our eyes met, making my mouth tightly shut.

"I wanted to show everyone who's the strongest," Alpha Liam declared with a voice ringing with certainty.

The Zeta gave him an intense look. "Be careful, my child," he warned. "Your ambition and recklessness will either make or break you. Later on, destruction will befall you."

"My domain is powerful enough to defeat everyone, Zeta," Alpha Liam proclaimed boldly. "I am not afraid of destruction."

'You're unbelievable, Alpha Liam!'

I secretly shook my head while staring at him. If only my soul could walk out of my body to escape from this mess, I would gladly do it with honor.

"You are destroying yourself," the Zeta said with eyes full of disappointment towards Alpha Liam. "You are ruining all of your father's hard-earned accomplishments."

"You're wrong, Zeta." He smiled at him with determination. "The path to creation and innovation is destruction, Zeta. I assure you that I will succeed. I won't fall. And eventually, my plans will conquer everything."

His words were powerful enough to make the entire place go dead silent.

We walked out of the venue with a dark expression painted all over Alpha Liam's face. His hands were firmly gripping my pulse and his deadly glares were enough to silence everyone approaching.

"Where are we going? This is not the way to the parking lot, Alpha. Aren't we going home?" I asked him with caution.

My steps were faltering as we walked away from the familiar path to the parking area and later on, the dim light of the street was enough to increase the lethality of his glares.

"Silence!" he barked, his voice filled with anger. "Just walk! Walk until you die, rogue!"

I secretly bit my lower lip while staring at him. The look on his face was completely dark and there wasn't a single trace of gentleness on his lips.

"I'm sorry, Alpha. I have been worried about the situation."

I tried to suppress my emotions, but my eyes welled up with tears without my control, as if I were overwhelmed by the pain of being hated and rejected.

I closed my eyes against the pain and numbness that was taking over my body.

"Ayla!" Dara called out with a shaky voice. "Stay away from the Alpha!"

I was about to ask her why but I chose to turn to Alpha Liam. The look on his face was worse than before. It felt like he was fighting the urge to scream and let his emotions burst.

"Do it now!" she exclaimed. Giving me a final warning. "Hurry!"

Alpha Liam growled just as I was about to move away from him. I witnessed how his claws moved in my direction, making my body tremble out of fear and adrenaline. I know taking that hit would kill me in an instant.

"You ruined everything, rogue! It was you who called Zeta!"

Alpha Liam's face was dark with anger.

"N-No, Alpha Liam. It wasn't me!" I insisted while shaking my head solemnly. "It was Vincent, but I know he had good intentions. He's just afraid that you and Alpha Isaac will kill each other."

"That's why you asked him to stop us, huh?" he said, like he was accusing me. His tone was sharp with disbelief.

"Yes, I begged for him to do so," I admitted. "Is it wrong for me to ask him to stop you from harming another Alpha just for a mere rogue?"

"You are more than that!" he said in annoyance. "You are my Luna!"

His words left me dumbfounded.

"You told me this is just for a show. That I am just here to pretend to be your Luna. But I couldn't understand what you're doing, Alpha. You are confusing me."

I literally couldn't look at his face for another second and his words were making my mind blank.

"Why do you keep on saving me from the people who hate my existence? Why are you risking everything? Why are you bringing chaos to your pack just because of me?"

Alpha Liam chuckled like he was amused about something. "Don’t be so full of yourself, rogue!"

Despite his reaction, I refused to back down. Just once, I wanted to remind him of the consequences of his actions.

"Do you remember what Selena told you, Alpha Liam? She wished for you not to put innocent lives at risk. She didn't want you to destroy yourself for a mere rogue or, shall we say, for the traitor's daughter."
