Chapter 22
"Call the Doctor, Sweetheart! Baby yumi is shaking and it's so hot!" she said in a panic.
I got up backward and writhed in pain. I was too confused by what Ransom's mother said. I saw the doctor take my son and take him out of the room with Ransom's parents.
I was restless and my chest was pounding so hard. I can't explain the trembling I felt at that time.
"Mom, my daughter," I said, crying.
"Calm down first, Mila. Baby Yumi will be okay," my mother replied.
I couldn't stop my tears from falling. Mother stroked my back and hugged me. She always said that everything would be okay.
"Everything will be fine. Trust me, daughter" she said gently.
But even if he didn't say it, I could see the concern in her eyes. My mother is very brave, unlike me who is weak-hearted.
"I hope so, mother," I responded emotionally.
She hugged me tightly and somehow eased the weight of my feelings. I was restless, waiting for Ransom's parents to return. I wanted to follow them to find out about my daughter's condition.
"I want to go see my daughter, Mom. Please help me."I begged.
Ransom's parents arrived a few moments later. I felt better when they said that baby Yumi's condition was stable. I thanked God because he heard my prayer.
"The doctor said there is nothing to worry about. The baby's condition is stable now,"Ransom's mother said.
"But why was she shaking earlier, Mom? What happened to her?" I asked.
"The doctor said there was a minor infection. Luckily, it was caught immediately.
Baby Yumi is still being observed because she is premature. But the Doctor is making sure that baby Yumi will be okay." Ransom's mother answered.
I breathed a sigh of relief at what Ransom's mother said. I couldn't help but look for him to let her know what had happened to our daughter.
"Did you call Ransom?" I asked.
"I can't contact his phone, it's turned off," his mother answered.
"Maybe he left it in his car again. He often forgets even when we are together in Singapore. He always leaves his phone behind but I know he will come here too. The important thing is that baby is okay," his father said calmly.
"Can I go see my daughter?" I asked.
"I want to see her," I added.
"You can't stand up yet, Mila, "My mother stopped me.
"She can use a wheelchair to ease her worry about her daughter. I feel her because Dianna was like that when Ransom was born. Right, sweetheart?" her father said with a smile.
"Yes, I did remember that, Sweetheart. It's good that you still remember, "Ransom's mother replied with a smile.
My mother helped me sit in the wheelchair and went out of the room to where my daughter was.
When we got to the other room, I saw my daughter inside the incubator. I saw the patches on her chest. I felt so sorry and cried when I saw her in that situation.
"Why are there patches on her chest?" I asked worriedly.
I was emotional at that time. It was so painful and difficult to see my daughter in such a situation. Mother stroked my back to make me feel better.
"Don't worry, Camilla. As the doctor said, the baby will be okay. Those patches are really normal to monitor her condition," Ransom's mother said, calmly.
"When will she be released from the incubator?" I asked worriedly.
"The doctor can't say when yet. But he assured me that baby Yumi will be okay. Let's just pray that her recovery will be quick," she answered.
Ransom's mother said, I just held my breath. I still can't help but worry as a mother. I'm restless and it's still painful for me to see my daughter sick. I wish I was the only one who got the infection. I wish I was the only one who got sick.
"You better go back to your room so you can rest. You also need strength, Camilla," Dad said calmly.
"But I don't want to leave my daughter, Dad. I' will stay here," I insisted.
"Camilla, don't be stubborn. You can't be the one to get sick, so please go back to your room and rest," he convinced me.
I just held my breath while watching my daughter. He was right, I also need to rest because I can't get sick. When my daughter wakes up, she will look for me and she will need milk from my breast. Daddy convinced me to come back into my room.
After a while, they also said goodbye because they said they had a lot of business to attend to. They promised to come back tomorrow and I thanked them.
"Even if we want to stay, we can't neglect our business," his father said, calmly.
"It's okay, Mom, and Dad"I replied with a smile.
"Thank you for coming here" I thanked, smiling.
"It's our obligation, Camilla. Just take care of yourself, okay?" he said, gently.
"Yes, Dad. Don't worry," I assured him with a smile.
He smiled at what I said and left the room. Mom and I looked at each other and smiled.
"Mr. Crosby is really kind. I hope Ransom is like his father," my mother said.
"Daddy is really kind, so I'm very lucky to have them as my in-laws, mom. And yes, Ransom really inherited from him, mother," I replied.
"I'm not really satisfied with your mother-in-law. It's like I felt something," she said seriously.
"Mommy Dianna is kind, mom. Your last conversation was just not good," I replied.
"It's my fault too," I added.
"But I still can't accept that she blames you for the baby's near miscarriage last time. You know I don't want someone to hurt you" she said emphatically.
"Maybe she only said that because she was worried about her grandchild, Mom. It was really my fault," I replied.
"It's still not right for her to blame you," she insisted.
"Mom, please give her a chance and get to know her more. I promise she is really kind," I convinced her.
I heard her sigh and obviously just had to smile. I know how over-protective she is as my mother, so I will put up with Ransom's bad treatment of me as long as I can. I don't want her to be mad at my husband because I ask for nothing but a whole family for my child.
"I'm very lucky to have you, Mom. You don't know how happy I am that you became my mother. I love how you protect me but trust me, Mom. The Crosby family is really kind to me, especially my husband," I said, smiling.
Mother smiled at what I said and gently caressed my hair. I couldn't stop crying because it was the first time I lied to her.
"Why are you crying?" she asked, worriedly.
"I'm just happy, mom" I lied.
The next day I woke up early and looked around the room. I saw my mother stirring coffee inside the cup. And my eyes looked for Ransom because he promised to come back.
"You're awake, daughter," my mother said with a smile.
"How are you feeling?" she asked.
"I'm fine, Mom," I answered with a smile.
My mother noticed the sadness in my eyes. But I denied it and looked for an alibi.
As long as I can pretend to be okay, I will do it. As long as I don't run out of reasons, I will keep pretending that I am really okay. But deep inside I am very sad and still hope that my husband will visit me now.
Suddenly someone knocked on the door and I smiled and got excited, thinking it was Ransom. But when my mother opened the door, it was Cheska.
I was happy to see my best friend. But I couldn't help but be disappointed. I was so disappointed in myself because I didn't even think that his promise was just part of his pretending.
"How are you, Bess?"Cheska asked with a smile.
"I'm fine, Bess," I answered with a smile.
"Why do your eyes look sad?" he asked again.
I didn't answer her question right away. I can't say that my sadness is because of Ransom. My mother looked at me seriously and I tried to smile.
Suddenly my phone rang and I saw an unknown number calling. I thought of who it was, so I immediately answered it. But I was very surprised and depressed when I heard from the other line.
