Chapter 106 106
"There is chaos, Liam. You have to get back to work as soon as possible. The shareholders are gritty, trying to get the company out of our hands. Liam, you need to get over this quickly."
"I'm not going anywhere till I can walk again." Liam said.
"You can almost do everything except walking. Do you think that the wheels are actually for the weak? Even those on wheels can command power!" Miller shot, the sound of his stick hitting the ground wafting into Liam's ears.
"I'm not one of them ,Dad!" Liam shot, anger evident in his voice. He didn't want to do anything right now till he got himself back. In the past three months, he'd been getting better because of the amount of work he had put in. It had not been easy.
At first, he'd been weak on the bed at the hospital, being taken care of like a baby. For the first time since he could remember, Liam couldn't go to the toilet by himself. It was one of the things which made him the weakest the most, having people change him like a child. He couldn't do a thing, couldn't protect his family, couldn't be the man a woman like Alexandra would want. Though, she had promised to be by his side but Liam still got scared every morning if he woke up, thinking she had gotten out of his house. But she was always in the room opposite him, checking him every single morning. He had grown accustomed to seeing her in the morning before she left for work and came back in the afternoon, to check on him before leaving again and then at night. The kids stayed with him throughout the day since school hadn't resumed. He was excited to be with them, playing and trying out things he and them had never done. The bond had been so close and even once in a while, Jace had directly called him daddy with a smile on his face.
But, before Liam could go back to being him, he had to free himself of the shackles of not being able to walk. He knew it was a matter of mindset that was simply controlling him but the truth was that not everyone could live with the fact of not being able to walk and one of those people were him. In that aspect, he could he termed weak.
"I worked on this company, toiling day and night to grow it, Liam. I would not lose it to the hands of thieves."
"Then sort it out with the shareholders yourself. If I don't walk, don't expect to see me in that company." Liam threatened.
"You would stop your life because you lost your legs?" Miller asked and scoffed loudly, "You are a fool, Liam for thinking that. Fine. Lose it. Lose everything. Your money, your company and most importantly, your family."
"Alexandra would never leave me." Liam shot
"Ohh, she would. Just like the last time she did. She was smart not to settle for less. She'd be smarter this time when she finds out what goes on in that head of yours. You don't want to take care of your kids? You don't want to be a man your kids would be proud of even if you don't have legs? Then fine, do as you wish and I would do as I wish you. If you would not appear for the board meeting next week, I would announce my brother as the new CEO."
Liam's brows furrowed tightly as he thinned his eyes, "Reed?" He smirked.
"Don't be crazy, dad. Reed is a dwindler. He would empty your company."
"I know that. I would rather have my family drink my money than those blood suckers." Miller replied and Liam frowned, his jaw clenching tightly as his fingers tightened on the phone.
"I raised that company to the position it is after being the head for seven years, dad an now, you want someone to spend that money recklessly?"
"Since you are not capable of being the boss any longer, I'll just find a head to put on there." Miller said and ended the call immediately.
Liam let out a hiss through his teeth and sighed, closing his eyes tiredly. A surge of anger rushed through his vein as he sat, and he stared at the walking trainer opposite him, determinate setting in his gloves.
Alexa sighed as she closed the book on her table, sighing as she rested back on the chair, her eyes closed. She almost immediately fell asleep, but the door opened jolting her out of her sleep.
"It's 5pm" Doreen said, staring at her, knowing how stressed she was for the past few months.
"You should get a maid. To help you with things around the house at least until Mr Jordans is whole again." She advised and Alexa shook her head.
"We'll fix ourselves. Getting a maid now will only diminish the determination Liam has. I don't want even that gone." She said.
"You love him so much." Doreen whispered and Alexa smiled.
"He gave his life for me. Isn't that more than enough reason?"
"Apart from that. If he hadn't almost died for you, would you still love him?" Doreen asked seriously and Alexa's eyes dimmed as she thought about it.
"I think so." She muttered, "You see, Doreen, I tend to be foolish sometimes. Especially when it came to Liam. You can't hate someone if you never loved the person." She said.
"So I guess my revenge was because I couldn't stand it anymore. I couldn't take it.... being so far away from him. Being so lost. For the past years, I simply thought I had it under control but it's been a year since I came back, Doreen and everything still looks the same. Only we have changed." She said and Doreen nodded as she walked towards Alexa, pulling her into a hug.
"Sometimes, this is all what we just need." She whispered.
