Chapter 101 101
"Alexandra." Cassidy peered over her, her eyes worried as she stared at her. Alexandra groaned slightly, her eyes opening little by little, till they were finally opened.
"Are you alright?" She asked.
"Help me up." Alexandra muttered and Cassidy immediately grabbed her hand, pulling her upwards with her other hand at her back.
"Where is Liam?" Alexandra asked.
"Take a cup of water." Cassidy ignored the question and turned a glass of water for Alexandra which she greedily emptied.
"Tell me, Cassy. Where is Liam?" She asked again.
"He is still in the hospital. You don't expect him to be out already, do you?" Cassidy glared at her.
"I'm going there." Alexandra said as she was about to get out of the bed but Cassidy pulled her back forcefully.
"You have kids, Alexandra. If you think I'm going to indulge you in this character of mourning when nothing is wrong, then that means you simply don't know me." She said.
"Nothing is wrong? Nothing? Cassidy, he was diagnosed with partial paralysis, do you think I don't know the meaning of that? They are simply saying Liam would not be able to walk again!" She shot.
"It doesn't mean he is dead!" Cassidy fired back her response, grabbing Alexandra's shoulders, "Look at me, Alexandra. He is still alive. Not many people have that luxury. He collected a bullet for you in the spine, but he is still alive. That is fine." She said.
Tears slipped out of Alexa's eyes and she finally broke down from her facade, tearing up in Cassidy's arms. Cassidy pulled her close in a tight hug, allowing her to cry on her shoulders.
"I'm scared, Cassy. I'm so scared right now. I can't think." She muttered.
"Calm down, Alexa. It's going to be fine. Everything would be fine. Take a bath and then we would go and check on him again, okay? I had to get you out of the hospital for a while." She said. Alexa nodded, using a hanky to wipe her face off as she got up from the bed.
"I'll check on Jade first." She said.
"You better do that." Cassy said and she smiled a bit, her eyes still blank as she walked out of the room.
"Oh my God." A shiver went down Cassidy's body as she broke down, the strong walls she'd been pretending to have crashing down, "Oh my God." She muttered, her chest heaving up and down as more tears rushed down her eyes. She shouldn't be passing through this. No one should. Not Alexandra. Not her best friend.
"I'm so sorry, Alexa. I'm so....sorry.." She muttered, heartbroken as she shook her head.
"Jade?" Alexa muttered as she opened the door and Jade immediately turned, jumping from the bed and rushing to her with teary eyes.
"Mommy? Where is daddy?" She asked quickly, peeking out of the door. Jace who had been beside her on the bed walked to Alexa too.
"Where's daddy?" He also asked curiously.
"Hmm?" Alexa couldn't think of something as her eyes reddened, tears almost spilling, but she couldn't let the children know. She couldn't let them know how hurt their father was.
"Jade. Jace." She bent in front of them as she looked into their eyes, catching their hands in hers.
"Kids, your daddy is so so strong." She muttered.
"Really?" Jade's eyes widened admist her tears. Streaks of dried tears ran across her face and Alexa rubbed her thumb on her face.
"Yes. But daddy wants you guys to be stronger. You have to be okay, till he comes back."
"He's coming back...... right?" Jac couldn't seem to believe her.
"Hmm mmm." Alexa nodded, "He is."
"Some of our classmates daddies die." He said again and a tear escaped her eyes sharply. She took a sharp breath, cleaning it.
"Jace, don't say that. Your daddy isn't dead. Your daddy would not die." She said and he nodded.
"We will wait for daddy." Jade said, cleaning her eyes as she gulped, "We will wait for him."
"Yes, Jade. Let's wait." Alexa agreed and pulled them into a hug. Before she suddenly remembered,
"Are you hurt?" She asked Jade.
"No. I used the lamp to hit the bad man. He got hurt." Jade said proudly.
"Alright. I would make something for you to eat and ...."
"I already did that, Alexa." Cassidy said from the doorway and Alexa stood up, staring at her with a smile.
"Thank you." She said, staring at Cassy lovingly.
"Alexa." Someone else called from the doorway and she turned, it was Sarah.
"How is Alice?" Alexa asked immediately.
"She's fine. She is sleeping right now after crying so much. She saw Liam get shot." Sarah said and Alexa turned to the kids before she led the other two women out of the room.
Getting to the living room, Eugene and Doreen were waiting downstairs already.
"Is he fine?" Eugene asked sharply.
"Almost." Alexa muttered, "He has partial paralysis. Might not be able to do some stuffs. And also, he would take at least six months to heal. I think we have hope. He can heal. That is the point."
"Are you sure about that?" Sarah asked and Alexa took a sharp intake of breath.
"The doctor said that. That is what I believe and even if everyone says otherwise, he would heal. Liam has to heal." She said, trying to convince herself.
"We have to bring him back home. They all saw the news. Your mom have been calling since and I can't even find Liam's phone. His parents have been calling you too." Cassidy said.
"Did you reply?" Alexa asked.
"No, I didn't. What could I have said? I don't even know his condition." Cassidy breathed out.
Sarah bit her lower lips as her eyes watered. She felt so bad.
The door bell rang and Alexa sighed slowly as she walked towards it. She mistakenly bumped into Sarah and the side of her top pulled downwards, making her eyes catch a scar on her arm. A large scar. Sarah pulled her cloth uo quickly and Alexa disregarded it, opening the door.
"You btch!" A sudden slap hit her across the face.
