75: Horny Killian Is My Favorite
SERA
"I know what you're thinking, Killian. You're probably planning on canceling the marriage license application or ignoring it completely. But if you do that, I'll make sure you'll never see Rue again," Arabella said, and Rue whimpered, burying her face against her father's chest. She probably didn't understand what was going on. But I was certain she understood that Arabella had threatened not to let her be with her dad.
"Say what you want, Arabella. But do you really think you will get away with it?" Killian said. His expression had changed from outright fury to a calm one. But his eyes... they gleamed with a psychotic sparkle. He was definitely plotting something.
Arabella couldn't hide her annoyance at this point. She stormed towards Killian and tried to pull Rue away from him. He only had to push her off him with one hand while Rue burrowed closer to him.
"You really should stop testing me, Arabella. Or you're going to learn the hard way that you can't get away with threatening me."
"Just watch and see what I'll do," she spat and stormed off. Rue was still curled up against Killian's chest, her small hands clutching at the fabric of his shirt.
"Rue? It's okay. She's gone now," I whispered, and she slowly pulled away slightly, enough to meet my gaze.
"She's scary. Will she do something bad?" She said in a small voice. And I leaned in to kiss her forehead.
"We won't let her."
She smiled then, her blue eyes lighting up. She had such a pretty smile, I couldn't help but coo.
...
"Sera, there's something I want to tell you. But, I'm not sure if it's okay to," Killian said to me in the car. Rue was asleep with her head on his chest. It was past eight at night, and she had been discharged.
"What is it?"
"It's just a suspicion, but there will be proof in a few days," he said softly.
I blinked, confused. Proof?
"I suspect that Arabella has been lying about Rue. I don't think she is indeed Rue's mother," he told me, and my eyes widened.
"How can you say that? Are you saying she's not your daughter either? Look at her. Anyone who sees her will be able to tell that she's a Cross."
"Exactly. That's why there are two possible truths."
I blinked at him, a lump forming in my throat. Killian had always been smart. Too smart for his own good. It wasn't a surprise that he had graduated top of his class at law school. Maybe he had also been aware of the lies I'd told him when we'd first met. If Killian made assumptions about something. There was a ninety-eight percent chance that he was correct. Unless he just wasn't using his brain.
"What possible truths?"
"One, Rue is indeed Arabella's daughter, but she isn't mine."
I blinked, flabbergasted. "What?"
"My brothers and I look very much alike, did you forget? Rue could be Matteo's. I doubt that Rafael would have let Arabella even breathe in his space." His voice was thick with tension.
But he was right. This was insane.
"Two, Arabella isn't Rue's mother, but Rue is indeed my daughter. That means Rue's mother has to be someone I'd been with. If that's true, it couldn't have been Juliet."
I gulped. "How are you so sure it isn't Juliet?"
He shrugged slightly. "Juliet is desperate to become a Cross. The moment she'd gotten wind of the knowledge that she was carrying my child, she would have told me right away. Only with the intention of forcing me to marry her. Now, this leaves the other possible mother to be...you."
Me.
I gripped the fabric of my dress, my heart pounding faster. If this was true, maybe what I'd recalled was really a memory. And that would mean that I was Rue's mother.
Holy shit.
"So, how do you intend to prove it?" I asked, meeting my husband's determined gaze.
"I've sent Arabella's and Rue's samples to the lab."
My stomach tightened. "Already?"
He nodded.
"If it isn't a match, then...Rue has to be yours."
Rue...was my daughter? No, not yet. My gaze drifted over to Rue's sleeping face, my stomach swarming with...butterflies?
Of course, if I were to have a child with Killian, she would definitely be this pretty.
No, get it together, Sera. Don't get ahead of yourself.
"We could be wrong, Killian," my voice trembled as I spoke, and he reached out to give my hand a gentle squeeze.
"Don't forget, we might actually be right."
Dear God, if he was right... then Rue had been living a lie. That woman—that snake—had stolen her from me. Arabella had stolen my baby's name, her truth, and every one of her firsts.
And me? I had been robbed of my daughter's earliest years. Her first steps. Her first words. Her first scraped knee.
If Arabella had lied about being her mother...
What else had she lied about?
Her past? Her age? Her entire identity?
Thinking about it made me feel sick to my stomach.
Who the hell had we let near our child?
...
I jolted awake in bed, my chest heaving as the nightmare I’d just had replayed itself in my head, bile threatening to push up my throat. I knew it was because of how anxious I was about the DNA test. I’d dreamt of Rue being shot in the head.
I turned to look at Killian, who was asleep beside me, shirtless. I reached out to touch his handsome face, brushing a long curl away from his cheekbone. His long eyelashes fluttered slightly, but he didn’t open his eyes. I couldn’t believe we could be like this again. I couldn’t believe I didn’t have to worry about the stupid mission anymore.
Killian had told me we were under a contract, but he’d sneaked behind my back to make it official. I chuckled softly. Typical Killian.
“Can’t sleep?” His voice was thick and husky when he spoke.
I leaned in to press a kiss to his forehead. “Not really… I’m just thinking about how lucky I am. I get to have you to myself.”
The corner of his lips quirked upwards, and he wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me down against his chest.
“And I’m just as lucky to have you,” he whispered, his arm wrapped around my shoulder.
I pressed a light kiss to his collarbone, grinning to myself.
“I love you,” I said, and he maneuvered us until he was hovering over me, his beautiful blue eyes locked with mine. He kissed me softly, and I reached up to slide my fingers through the strands of hair at the back of his head.
“I love you, my angel,” he whispered in between kisses, and I giggled, placing my arms around his neck as he deepened the kiss, drawing a breathy moan from my lips.
“Fuck,” he breathed, pulling away. I could feel his man parts already stirring. It was satisfying to know I had that much effect on him.
“You make me feel like I’m a teenager again,” he commented, flicking my nose lightly.
I hummed. “Horny Killian is one of my favorites,” I teased, and he laughed softly, pulling me in for another kiss. I reached down between us, stroking him through his pants. He hissed against my lips, his eyelids fluttering closed.
“You really should stop doing that,” he said breathlessly, opening his eyes.
I grinned, flipping our positions, easing down his body with my gaze locked on his.
“Well, why should I? My favorite toy is within reach after all,” I drawled, pulling down his waistband to expose his swollen cock.
His breath hitched as I wrapped my fingers around the hilt and licked the head slowly, not breaking eye contact.
His eyes darkened, a wicked smirk tugging at his lips as I sucked him into my mouth while massaging the base. The instant I hollowed my cheeks, his head fell back, his chest heaving.
“Shit,” he rasped, his hands gripping the sheets while the low lights glinted off his wedding ring.
Just then, we heard a knock on the door, and Rue’s voice floated into the room, startling us both.
“Daddy?”
