Chapter 41: Cute Barista
Chapter 41: Cute Barista
Giselle’s PoV
I was having a gala time till the devil decided to crash in and ruin the good time that I was having. Hie every word felt like a knife slicing through my heart “Hey, Tanner.”
“Giselle, where are you? I have been looking everywhere for you! Do you know what time it is now? How can you be so careless? Colton went looking for you, did he find you?” I heard Tanner breathe a sigh of relief when I finally answered the phone.
I was feeling very guilty, “I am sorry, Tanner, I forgot to turn my phone on after charging it. I was at this café and got lost reading a book. The food was amazing, and the barista was so cute!”
I heard a low growl coming from Colton and I wondered if he was jealous, just a teeny tiny bit. He cleared his throat and kept his eyes trained on the road, but the way his hands tightened around the steering wheel told a different story.
“You are fine? Where are you now? I will come and pick you up” there was a rustling sound coming from the other side.
I hesitated for a few seconds and then asked, “Tanner, where are you and where is Zana?”
“Zana is still in the hotel room, don’t worry about her, the hotel staff sent over a nanny. I am looking for you outside.” This time I could hear a lot of chattering around him.
I didn’t know how to ask him about Colton when the man of the hour was sitting right next to me, so I hesitated for a while, and asked, “Then, how did Colton…”
Tanner replied lightly, “I was at the front desk enquiring about you when he overheard me and took off running like a madman once I told him that you hadn’t come home! I thought that it will be easier to have one more person to help.”
After listening to Tanner, I was a little confused by Colton’s behavior ‘Maybe he just wanted to help on humanitarian grounds! A man that never bothered to give me the time of the day while we were still married can’t suddenly feel something different!’
I stole a glance at the man sitting next to me “Tanner, I am worried about Zana. Please go back to the hotel room, Zana will not be comfortable being alone in the hotel with someone else. Colton has come to pick me up, so you don’t worry about me.”
I could hear worry in Tanner’s voice “Just don’t give him a reason to fight with you, Gi.”
I smiled knowing the kind of person Colton is, “What is there to fight about when we are already divorced, Tanner? He can’t possibly leave a pregnant woman on the street?” Colton can be rude, but he is a man of manners!
Colton gave me a sideways glance hearing what I was saying “I am glad that he is there with you, I will go and check on Zana.”
Tanner hung up the call “Is he not worried that you are with your ex – husband?” Colton spoke, never taking his eyes off the road.
“The main base of any relationship is trust, Mr. Black, Tanner trusts me enough to not get jealous of petty things like my ex- husband coming to pick me up!” I felt the sadness seep into my heart coz I know that there was no trust in our relationship EVER!
I heard Colton scoff “If trust is all that is needed, there would be no divorces in this world.”
“True, but if there is no trust no matter how much you love or respect a person you will doubt their intentions! To trust a person, you need to know them inside out. Trust is not as fickle as love Mr. Black!” I made sure that I never took my eyes off him as I said those words.
Chapter 34: Hot Chocolate
They would have to have an actual conversation to fight, if they never actually talked like husband and wife how would they even fight? For what would they fight?
Throughout their marriage, all they had was that one night when their bodies spoke for them not their hearts nor their minds. If Colton had shown Giselle one percent of love, she would have surely given their relationship her all till the end.
Giselle never felt unease while talking to him other times, but right now, she felt embarrassed as she was not sure if she should talk to him cordially or yell at him for even talking about trust!
Not once did he take her out on a date, not once did he so much as go for grocery shopping with her, and not once did he ever look at her with anything other than indifference in his eyes.
Giselle has become accustomed to her current identity of ‘Miss Smith’ and knows that she has to keep her distance from him. Colton’s palm resting on the steering wheel slowly clenched, there was a frown marring his handsome face, and an unknown rage gradually poured into his heart.
Colton suddenly stopped the car and Giselle glanced around only to see that they had stopped in front of a beautiful café that had a warm feeling about it “Where are we? This is not our hotel!”
Colton ignored her, just unfastened his seat belt, and got out of the car “It is not, and I am hungry.”
When Giselle saw Colton walking towards the café, she hurriedly went after him while also being careful of her pregnancy “But I am not hungry!”
The man rolled his eyes and spared her a glance over his shoulder, “I have not eaten yet.”
“Mr. Black! Mr. BLACK! Colton!” Giselle yelled and went into the café after him.
Colton walked ahead of her with a smile on his lips, he was enjoying the way she was following him “Giselle, wasn’t our divorce a peaceful one?” Colton paused near the register and looked over the menu “You still have your hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows and cream?”
Giselle was a little surprised that he even knew what she drank, as far as she could remember she only had it once when they were still married and gushed over how she could never get enough of it. It was during one of their family meetings and she never heard the end of it from him.
She remembered how he had called her mannerless and with no class “Since we separated on peaceful terms you need to let go of all that hostility towards me and stop avoiding me like this, don’t you think so?”
“…” Giselle could not argue that fact.
“I will have a black coffee with one spoon of almond milk and two spoons of sugar, a greenhouse salad with shrimp spaghetti” Colton then glanced at Giselle waiting for her answer, but did not get any, so he took the liberty of ordering her drink.
Giselle felt a little guilty for actually avoiding him even before they divorced, her fingers clenched unconsciously, “I am not avoiding you, I just did not want to cause any misunderstandings between you and your girlfriend nor did I want to give her an opportunity to think that I am trying to steal you away from her, that’s all!”
“Misunderstandings?” Colton laughed and walked back to her, his magnetic voice was low and threatening “Were you afraid of my girlfriend misunderstanding us or afraid that your lover boy would? Does he not know that you were sleeping around with him while still being married to me?”
Colton did not want to be rude to her but there was just something about her that brought out the worst in him and he always ends up hurting her even if he did not want to!
Giselle tightened her lips, her heart was bleeding with every word of his. She could not believe how this man could be so cruel to her when he could show his kindness to others? She has seen homeless people getting more kindness from him than her!
The man did not look at her anymore and went straight to a table after collecting their order. Giselle could only grit her teeth coz trying to make things clear to him will only end up bringing more trouble to her.
