Chapter 55 The Real Family

Chapter 55 The Real Family
Darcy's POV

I rub my body as goosebumps creeps onto my skin. My stomach tightens into a knot again. Something is about to happen but I can't say for sure what it is.

Adrian has urgent work to do outside the country. So whatever happens, I have to guard Hazel at all cost.

Ever since I heard the story about Hazel's biological mother, I've been restless. Maybe I'm just overthinking. I shake my head.

I sigh as I sit on the bed and open the laptop. My gaze darts to Hazel and readjust her pyjamas.

It's been quite a while since I reminisced about my life. Before I walk into Adrian's office for the first time, my goal was to work in a corporate environment.

Being a nanny was never part of the plan but so far turns out to be one of the best decision I've ever made.

I lean against the pillow, staring at the ceiling as thousands of thoughts ran through my head.

Adrian is wealthy enough to sustain us and the generations after us but I don't want to be a liability either.

I jolt out of my thoughts as my phone starts ringing.
Slowly, a smile plasters on my face as I see Adrian's number display on the screen. Quickly, I swipe on the answer icon and his deep voice booms in my ear.

"Good morning baby."

"Hello my love," I beam while keeping my voice soft.

"Did I disturb your sleep?" He asks and I hear the sound of a car door closing.

I shake my head, "no, you didn't. Are you off to work? It's still very early," I whine.

He chuckles deeply. "Unfortunately, I didn't get enough sleep because the bed was cold without you. So I can only finish my work faster and come back to you guys," he grumbles.

A sly smirk dances on my lips as I bite my lower lip, "we can come over if you want," I tease.

It goes silent for a while. I check the screen of my phone and the call is still ongoing. Suddenly, he switches to video call.

"Baby are you serious about coming? The pilot can bring you and Hazel here," he says excitedly.

I try to bite back my smile but it's impossible as I burst out in laughter. He looks at me with furrowed eyebrows.

"Did I say something funny?" He asks with a serious tone.

I shake my head smiling and wave my hand at the camera. "No, my love. I just didn't expect you to take that seriously. I'm kidding you," I confess.

His shoulders and face drops. He looks away from the phone and stays silent.

"I shouldn't have pulled your legs, baby. I'm sorry," I beg but he ignores me.

"If you forgive me this time, I'll owe you one. Just name it," I say in a low voice.

Adrian pretends not to be interested but he's stealing glances from the corner of his eyes.

"Hmm. My crimes are unforgivable, so I'll withdraw my offer," my voice cracks and I fiddle with the hem of my shirt.

"Wait, hold on!" He speaks up, before adding. "Why are you so impatient?" He grumbles.

I roll my eyes in my head. He's the impatient one but doesn't have the nerve to admit it.

"Is your deal real? Can I trust you?" He raise his eyebrow, looking unconvinced.

Seriously?

"If you don't trust me that means we can't come to an agreement," I shrug.

He chuckles. "I believe you," he pauses and breathes out. "Anything and you can't say no."

I nod.

"Where's Hazel?" He asks.

I switch it to back camera showing Hazel who is sleeping on her tummy and snoring without a care in this world.

"Exactly, what I thought. She'd be doing. Baby, I think Hazel needs to start going to the gym. If she continues like this, she'll become lazy It's a good idea, right?" He grins.

"Thank your stars you're not here with me, else I would break your legs and lock you up in the basement. Don't stress my baby or threaten her!" I grit and he gulps.

"Calm down babe. I'm only joking," he explains.

"Anyways, how are you guys coping? I can still contact the security agency to send some men over the house to ensure yours and Hazel's safety," he says with a worry filled face.

Ever since we had that conversation and he got that text, Adrian has been over protective. The idea of someone stalking me, didn't sit well with him.

After hearing rts entire story, I vowed to protect Hazel with everything I have. She's my child and no one can change that.

"We're doing well babe and there's nothing for you to worry yourself about. If anything comes up, you'll be the first person to know."

Adrian still looks unconvinced but nod. He doesn't want to push it but I can tell he's uncomfortable.

"Alright, if you say so. But promise you'll call me if anything happens," he adds.

"I promise."

"We're here sir," I hear his driver say to him.

"I'll leave you to work. Bye my love. Take care and don't forget to eat," I blow him kisses and he catches the invisible kisses and press it against his chest dramatically.

We both burst out laughing.

"Bye, baby. I love you,"

"I love you too," I add and end the call.

I toss the phone on the bed and sigh heavily. My cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling too much.

This man won't be the end of me.

Hazel stretches her body, before opening her eyes.

"Hello baby," I coo and lean further to carry her.

"Ma...ma," she babble.

"My love," I kiss her chubby cheeks. "Did you dream of me," I ask and she drools over my hand.

What a perfect way to answer my question.

"You missed daddy's call and guess what he said. He suggests you start going to the gym but don't worry mummy defended you."

Before I can continue my statement, I hear people arguing. With Hazel in my arms, I walk over to the window and look down.

There's a black range rover. A middle aged woman and two young ladies.

Who are they? A sick feeling settles in the bottom of my stomach. This is not good.

Carefully, I place Hazel in her crib and then a pacifier in her mouth.

"Don't cry baby. Mummy will be back soon," I whisper and kiss her forehead.

Walking into the closet, I change out of my pyjamas into something better - a set of silk two piece.

After making sure, Hazel is okay, I leave the room and head outside.

Julius stops talking the moment our eyes meet.

"It's a good thing you're here ma. These people are trespassing," he informs me.

The woman eyes me coldly and the two fake looking bimbos do resemble her.

I raise my chin, straighten my back and look them dead in the eyes.

"It's basic manners to introduce yourselves," I say in a chilly voice.

The one with blonde hair rolls her eyes, "we are family!" She spits.

My heart race.

Family?

Real family?
