Chapter 45 Salvation Or Damnation
Adrian's POV
The ringing of my phone blare loudly through the entire room. I snap my eyes open and groan. My migraine immediately goes from bad to worse.
Before I could answer the phone, it stops ringing. I sit up slowly because if I move too fast, I feel like my head will split open.
Who calls anyone so early in the morning?
I lean against the bed rest. Memories of what happened yesterday flash through my head. After I returned yesterday, I suddenly felt sick. I took my medications and dozed off after Hazel slept.
Thankfully I didn't get any call from her. Well, I'm sure she tried but couldn't reach me. I blocked her.
I'm not joking about giving her the space we need. I won't be able to erase her from my life completely, after all her blood runs through my veins but we can still pretend to be strangers.
My phone starts ringing. I click on the answer icon as soon as I pick it up.
The agency?
My heart skip a beat and I pinch my nose. For the first time I'm reluctant to answer their call.
It involves Darcy and I'm excited to know where she is but I can't pretend to be alright. I'm still recovering from what they told me about her involved with a man.
The call ends and I toss the phone on the bed. This time I don't think I can handle anymore insane news.
Several thoughts run through my head. I will choose to believe Darcy over my mother but I'm not in the right head space. Maybe a few hours will help.
They don't call back and I sigh. I take my thermometer and place it on my forehead. It beeps and I check the reading.
Thankfully, my fever and reduce a lot. I step down from the bed and enter the bathroom. I brush my teeth and wash my face.
My legs are numb. There's no ounce of strength in me. I hold onto the sink to steady my stance.
Will I ever be happy? Can my life get any easier?
The alarm in Hazel's room goes off. She's awake. I wipe off the water on my face and force out a smile.
I will bear all the brunt and pain but she's only allowed to live peacefully.
Snatching my phone, I walk of the room hastily but made sure to hold the wall for support.
"Hello mama," I coo with a smile.
Hazel's eyes lit up as she sees me and she giggle. Punching and kicking the air.
"Good morning, princess. Did you sleep well?" I ask and carry her to the kitchen and put her in the stroller. "Let's go make breakfast. What will you have my lady,?" I ask joking.
I walk around lazily around the kitchen trying to prepare the things I'll be needing to prepare the banana smoothie. As for Hazel, I prepare a bottle of milk for her.
I peel the bananas skin and cut them inside rte blender. Then I add a small quantity of milk.
Placing the cup of smoothie with ready to drink it when my phone starts ringing.
It's the agency again? What do they have to say that cannot wait a few more minutes.
I sip the smoothie and then my drugs.
When the phone won't stop ringing, I grit my teeth and answer the call.
"I'm listening?"
"Sorry to disturb. There's a new development," the voice of the man I spoke to on the first day I contracted them the work boom through the phone.
I pause and tighten my grip on the phone. There's no need hiding from it. I paid them, so it's only right to get the job done.
I gulp heavily. The sound of my heartbeat has become deafening. "What kind of development?"
"We were able to locate Miss Darcy."
The glass of smoothie slip out of my hand and shatters on the floor. My heart race crazily.
Darcy? Tears blur my vision and I stagger backward.
Am I hearing things or it's real?
"Repeat what you said," I demand and he says the same words as before.
"We have sent the details of her current location and movements to you," he says over the phone.
I nod as if he can see me. "Than...thank you. I'll wire the remaining money as soon as possible."
The line goes off. My knees finally gives out and I fell to the ground. The tears then comes flowing.
After three months of torture, of wondering if we'll ever see her again, of living in anguish, I finally know where she is.
I palm my face and cry. My lips quiver and my whole body trembles as I remain kneeling on the floor. Ignoring the pain that shoot through my body.
Hazel blabbers and I look at her. She's already staring at me. I struggle to stand and limp towards her.
I kneel down before her and the corners of my lips tug into a smile.
"Guess what honey, we are going to see Darcy. We will see her again," I say in a shaky voice, smiling.
"Wait, why am I still wasting time? This is my time to make things right. I've been waiting for the money for a long time, so why am I hesitating?" I mumble to myself and Hazel ignores me. Her while focus is on the bottle of milk.
Adrenaline rushes through my veins. I sniffle and wipe my tears. Standing up, I check the information the agency sent and it's indeed detailed.
Fisher village? That's where she is. I haven't hear about the place before. It's on the outskirt of town and the place is isolated.
I put a call across my pilot.
"Hello, Mr Ashford," he greets.
"Get the chopper ready. I have an unfinished business in Arizona," I command.
"Yes, sir" he replies and I end the call.
A few minutes, Hazel and I are wearing freshly laundered clothes without bathing.
Soon, my driver is driving us to the airport.
"Step on the accelerator David," I say from the back seat with Hazel playing with my fingers.
My racing of my heart does not stop. I bite my inner cheek but my leg tap continuously on the floor. Yet, the unwavering smile on my face refuse to go away.
Thirty minutes later, the chopper lands and we enter the car that is waiting for us.
"Good day, Mr. Ashford," the driver gives me a curt nod.
"Good day. Fisher Village," the words roll off my tongue. Hazel hates traveling the most but I'm surprise that she's not already dozing off.
Maybe she can feel it. What is to come.
As the car moves, my gaze shifts from staring at the left side of the road to the right side.
"We are almost there sir. Where exactly are we heading sir," the driver asks.
The village is quite small. If they have any jealthyor education facility, it won't be big and Darcy once mentioned about working at a daycare.
"Go to the day-care."
He pause, "Which daycare to be specific?"
I clench my jaw as I'm starting to get annoyed. "If there are thirty day-care facilities, we will check all thirty of them."
"Sure, sir."
The long drive finally ends. Turns out there's only one daycare facility in the village and we are currently there.
I carry Hazel as I look around the compound. It's small, yet dignified.
"Hello, do you want to register your baby?" A young man walks up to me.
I shake my head. "No, I'm fine. Thank you Mister..." My voice trails off. My eyes continue to search the area to at least to catch a glimpse of her.
"It's Gillian,"
I nod absentmindedly. He's not the reason I'm here. "Is there a Miss Darcy here?" As I turn to face him properly.
His lips parts to talk when my world froze. Everywhere tilts and I hold Hazel tighter.
"Adrian?"
Her voice... She's here. In the same space with me.
This obsession of mine. My lesser evil...Will you bring me salvation or damnation?
