Chapter 154 The Empire Begins To Fall

Chapter 154 The Empire Begins To Fall
Unknown POV

The atmosphere inside the conference room remains tense. Nobody says a word aloud but it's written all over their faces.

No matter how uncomfortable they are, they dared not to voice it out.

Every person seated around the polished table, has issues pressing against their chest like an invisible weight.

The room, usually filled with confidence and quiet arrogance, had become unusually silent.

A man dressed in a charcoal suit hurried inside carrying a tablet. His breathing was uneven.

"I'm sorry for interrupting, madam" he said, swallowing hard. "But we've got another problem."

Several pairs of eyes turned toward him. I clutch my hands into tight fists. When carrying out my plans, I hate setbacks. So as for the unpleasant circumstance, I wonder what it is.

"What now?" another executive muttered impatiently. His forehead creases into a frown.

The man looked toward the empty seat at the head of the table before lowering his voice.

"The Zurich account."

The words alone were enough to make me stiffen. It's as if time stilled.

"What about it?" I demand. My voice is cold enough to make them tremble and no doubt, they did.

Carefully, I pick up the coffee mug. Hoping that the liquid will make me feel better but I'm wrong.

"It's frozen."

Silence.

I close my parted lips without sipping the drink as I lowered the coffee cup in my hand.

"No. That's impossible," a man hisses. "We've used that account for years.".

"I confirmed it twice." The messenger states with full confidence.

That's impossible.

Its impossible that my years of hardwork has gone down the drain. I glare at Gill, the financial director for Adrian's company.

Someone stood up so abruptly that the chair screeched against the marble floor.

"Who froze it?"

"No official explanation from the bank? Besides no one knows about that account." Another chips in.

These are people that have been helping me all these years build my empire. Even when I hid from the world, they knew me.

They swore loyalty to me but now it seems they're beginning to forget what I can do to them. I know that they follow me not because they are willing but because I have several leverage against them.

"They only stated that suspicious transactions were discovered. They're requesting additional documents before releasing the funds." Another voice immediately cut in.

"How much is trapped?" I ask and the room grew even quieter.

"Almost everything from the European operations."

A curse echoed across the room.

"This has never happened before."

"No."

"It can't be coincidence."

They all exchanged uneasy glances as my gaze bore holes into their skin.

Someone finally voiced the fear everyone had been trying to suppress.

"...Someone is targeting us."

"Us?" I raise my eyebrows.

Nobody answered, because deep down they all kmow that I'm the target. The money is mine to start with.

My eyes darken as rage course through my veins. I ball my hands into fists until my knuckles cracked.

"What the fuck is happening? I specifically told you not to make any mistake. You know better than to be careless!" I slam my hand in the table.

All of them fall to their knees, shaking vigorously as they nodded weakly. "We are sorry, madam."

Sorry?

I don't show mercy and no one can save them from my wrath. As for the bastard coming for me, I'll make sure to return the favor.

Just when the meeting is about to end, another report arrived.

This time it was worse.

The chief logistics officer rushed inside without knocking..His face had completely lost its color.

"They took Victor."

Every head snapped toward him. "He was arrested less than an hour ago."

"By who?" Gill quetsions

"Federal investigators."

The room erupted. "Impossible. He knows too much."

I sigh and rest my head on my hand. The only person that can come after me in such capacity is Adrian but he still doesn't know that behind everything.

Heck, he doesn't know that I'm alive.

I only went after his little bitch but was unsuccessful. As for the reason why I killed Nora, I did it so I can easily take over the company.

No matter how much I think about it, I don't think I was careless at any point. So for an outsider to know so much, there must be a spy.

"Did he say anything?"

"We don't know."

"Quiet! All of you!" I hiss angrily. They are all nuisance and I need a moment to think.

Victor isn't just another employee. He had handled financial transfers. He knew names.

Routes.

Passwords.

People.

Not everything...

But enough.

If investigators convinced him to cooperate, years of carefully hidden operations could go to waste.

The worst part is that I can't involve lawyers or legal practitioners. After all this whole network is nothing but a fraud.

Losing one account isn't enough reason to expose tens of accounts.

"What do we do about Victor, madam?"

"Discard him." I reply nonchalantly.

After the meeting ended, I decided to stay longer at the building. People instinctively looked around before lowering their voices further.

"Do you think someone betrayed us?"

"I don't know but I heard somebody very powerful is behind everything."

"Who?"

"No one knows."

A woman folded her arms tightly.

"I've worked here for four years."

"I've never seen everyone this scared."

Her colleague nodded.

"Me too."

"Usually problems disappear overnight."

"This time..."

He couldn't finish.

Because even he didn't believe the problems would disappear.

Not anymore.

Hours later, night fell.

Inside another secure facility several miles away, a shipment that had taken months to arrange sat unopened.

Armed officers surrounded it.

One of them sliced through the heavy seals. The container door slowly creaked open.

"Record everything." One of the supervisors began filming.

Far away from the seizure site...

Several senior members of the organization gathered inside another private office.

No one touched the expensive whiskey resting on the table.

One man continued pacing.

"This isn't random."

"It can't be."

Another nodded.

"Three hits."

"Three days."

"They're attacking every side."

A younger executive frowned.

"But how?"

"Our systems are secure."

"Our people are loyal."

"Our records are protected."

An older man slowly removed his glasses.

"They aren't attacking blindly."

"They know where to look."

The realization settled over everyone like cold water.

Someone has somehow obtained accurate information.

Not guesses.

Not luck.

Facts.

The kind only insiders could know.

The older executive slowly sat down. "They're dismantling us and every layer that holds us together."

"No bullets."

"No explosions."

"No threats."

"They're suffocating us."

Nobody argued.

Because that description fit perfectly.

Whoever stands against me isn't trying to win quickly.

They were removing every support one by one..The invisible war had finally begun.

Nora children are up to no good and can't seek revenge. Adrian still thinks that all is well with his company.

But wait... what if he's bidding his time? What if he knows that I'm behind everything?

I shake my head. That won't be much of a problem because he loves me so much that he will choose me over anything.

But for the first time in the past year, fear had found its way into me that once believed I'm untouchable.
