Chapter 27 Chapter 27
KILLIAN
“Your Highness?”
Lenore stiffened while I paused, my other hand still resting on the smooth skin of her back under her shirt.
“What is it?”
“Pardon my interruption,” Fabien said and Lenore made a noise in the back of her throat, moving to get off me.
I tightened my grip on her thigh, anchoring her in place, but the action ended up making her slide against my straining cock. The friction was agonizingly perfect and a searing jolt zipped through my spine while we both sucked in a breath. Ancestors preserve me.
“But Alaine and three of his men are here,” Fabien added.
“Dismiss them. I’m busy,” I replied without hesitation, sliding my hands to the perfect swell of her ass.
“Killian— ngh…” A soft, broken whimper escaped her, her fingers digging into my shoulders as I ground her against me, recreating that wicked friction. Fuck. I needed her.
“I’m afraid they’re here to let you know the King has summoned you.”
I frowned, pausing again, and glanced at the door. “Shouldn’t it be Cederic here then?” He was my father’s summoner after all.
“I do not believe this is meant to be a civil summon.”
Ah. A frustrated groan escaped me and I returned my attention to the alluring woman in my hands before reluctantly shifting her off me and onto the couch. I didn’t want to leave, but Alaine would take pride in dragging me off her and to my father if I ignored him to continue this.
“I’ll be right back, Lenore,” I said and she rapidly bobbed her head, looking everywhere but at me as she adjusted her clothes. “Hey.”
She swallowed, finally meeting my gaze, and I pressed my lips to hers.
“We’ll pick this up where we left off,” I muttered against her lips before stealing another quick, messy kiss that urged me to take her to bed, but I forced myself to get up instead.
Fabien was no longer outside the bedroom’s door when I stepped out; he was standing by the suite’s main door with Alaine and the guards.
“There he is,” Alaine announced as I walked over, an irritating smile on his face. “The man of the hour.”
I gave him a blank stare before my gaze drifted to the restraining chains hanging on his shoulders. They were obviously meant for if I intended to be… disagreeable. My jaw clenched.
Shifting my attention to Fabien, I lowered my voice and said, “Nothing happens to her.”
He nodded and Alaine gestured for me to go ahead of them as I walked past him.
“After you,” he said at the same time I said, “When I finally kill you, I’m going to enjoy it.”
“I love it when you speak to me like that, Your Highness.”
Fool. “Where’s the King?”
“The Agellius’ Hall,” he answered as we headed down the hallway. We’d only just made it out of my mother’s palace and were heading to the main palace when he started taunting me.
“So how’d you do it, rogue prince?” he asked and I let out a harsh breath at the title.
Rogue vampires were vampires who had been exiled from Eyrosa for one reason or another. Over time, the term became a blanket label for vampires who didn’t have access to the city. I gained the title rogue prince after I was expelled from Eyrosa, not because I didn’t have access to the city—no one could permanently revoke my access to it—but because my father had finally cast me aside.
“It must have taken quite the planning for you and your rogue King.”
Ah. He thinks I’m behind the attack… Is that why my father summoned me?
As the title said, the rogue King was the King of rogues, and most of the rogues were under his command. After I was exiled, there was a common misconception that Ravaryn—the rogue King—and I would be close friends because apparently, we were both insane, but I never got past being acquainted with him.
What the hell would I gain from attacking— Ahhh… Shit. I should have known this would happen after Fabien told me the rogues only attacked the werewolf representatives.
“What’s with the silence, Your Highness? You always have something to say.”
“Captain of the guards,” I said, “What is that? What job description does that carry nowadays?”
There absolutely was no need for the post seeing as there was already a Head of Security post which was occupied by someone far better and smarter than him—the training of the guards also fell on the Head of Security—but wonders happened when your aunt was the Queen.
“...None you’d understand.”
“It isn’t the eighteen hundreds. You’re just a glorified escort, and you’re only here because my father doesn’t care about you. I will make him care if you keep irritating me.”
He didn’t respond, so I glanced over my shoulder moments later and added, “What’s with the silence, Captain? You always have something to say.”
Alaine smirked at me, but still didn’t say anything until we got to our destination. The guards at the door pushed the oak doors open, and the members of the Agellius—the vampire council—in the room immediately fell silent, their gazes turning toward me as I walked in.
I could feel the weight of my father’s anger before my gaze even landed on him, and I gave him a blank stare. “What?”
A woman on his right tutted at me in disapproval before my father stated, “The wards are down”
“Tough luck.”
“Several pack representatives are dead and even more are missing.”
“Again, tough luck.”
I was still pissed about what happened in my mother’s vault and I didn’t give a fuck about the accusations flying around in his mind.
“Have you nothing to say in your defense?!” My stepmother, who was sitting on my father’s left, cut in and my gaze snapped to hers, my forehead creasing.
“Why would I need to defend myself? I was having a lovely nap when it happened. Courtesy of my darling father,” I answered, gesturing at the man who was still glaring at me. “And even if I hadn’t been preoccupied, I wasn’t aware I had the powers to bring the wards down.”
“You would with a witch in your pocket—”
“Shut your mouth, woman!” my father boomed and she almost jumped out of her skin.
The corner of my mouth twitched. Accusing me of using rogues to commit mass murder was one thing, but accusing me of being in league with a witch was something my father would not tolerate.
I didn’t care about this theatrics though. I just wanted to get this over with and go back to Lenore.
My mate… A smile pulled at my lips.
“Killian.” My father returned his attention to me, and I schooled my expression, tipping my head to the side.
“Yes, Father.”
“I’ve sent guards after the missing representatives. We believe they slipped out when the wards went down. If—”
The sound of the main doors being opened filled the room and he glanced past me before I followed his gaze to find Fabien standing in the doorway. He bowed while I frowned.
Why’s he here?
“Pardon me, Your Majesties, Your Highness, but um… the Queen’s vault has been robbed.”
