Chapter 83 NEW PHONE

Chapter 83 NEW PHONE
Godiva POV

“What!?” Dina and I exclaimed in disbelief.

“You love black, so here is yours,” Mrs. Job said, handing me a beautifully boxed iPhone 10. “You love blue, so here is yours,” Mrs. Job continued, handing Dina a beautifully boxed iPhone 10 too.

“Mama, for real?” I asked Mama, looking at her still in disbelief, waiting to hear it’s a prank or something like that.

“Thank you Mum!” Dina exclaimed, throwing herself on Mrs. Job. That was the difference between Dina and I, I was still in disbelief while she was already hugging.

“Thank you, Mama!” I equally screamed, throwing myself on Mama.

“Careful girl,” Mama said, smiling beautifully.

“So girls, we’ve gotten you both good phones, you now have no reason at all to get it from any guy outside, are we clear?” Mrs. Job warned, pulling her ears.

“Yes Ma’am,” we chorused.

“Di, take Diva’s stuffs up to her room,” Mrs. Job said, sitting on the couch as I stood still in disbelief.

“Why is this phone coming on a weekend?” Dina murmured as we sat on the tiny bed in my room.

“What’s your complaint?” I asked her, smiling.

“It’d have come earlier on so I could work out some things with Ben,” she replied, pouting.

“Aww, her royal highness, the queen of Ben’s life,” I teased her with a bow.

All through the night, I battled with sleep. I was sad some moments whenever the thought of Jerald crossed my mind, and I was happy other moments as I tried setting up my brand new phone.

I forced myself to sleep at twelve a.m. when I remembered the nurse’s warning to me about valuing my sleep, according to her, the major cause of my ailment was lack of sleep and stress.

During the weekend, Dina and I studied intensely since we had missed studying together for days, the only time we weren’t studying was when we were either sleeping, snacking or napping. I had a mission, the extermination of any opponent that sat against me in that sacred competition was my uttermost desire.

As the weekend was coming to an end, that was when my anxiety began, I was so anxious I couldn’t wait for Monday to flaunt my brand new iPhone to Jerald.

I woke up late on Monday morning and took my time to do all I needed to do, unlike other days when I’d hurry to dress up, this day, I took my time in dressing up because I knew no one was going to penalize me for coming to school late because I was just recovering.

“Being sick sometimes is a flex,” Dina said, laughing as we walked majestically to school.

“You get the vibe girl, all I know is I’m using the sick slot this whole week,” I announced, laughing.

“That aside, how do you plan on showing Jerald your new phone?” Dina asked ecstatically as we walked to school.

“How have you already thought that far?” I asked Dina in disbelief. “Well, maybe I’d just ask him for a picture and that’s that,” I continued, thinking.

Dina went on to talk about some grand opening, then a thought hit me and everything went sour from there as I talked down on Dina’s excitement.

“Grow up Dina, we ain’t the first to use iPhones, moreover ours isn’t even as flashy as the ones people flaunt.”

“Chill girl, don’t be such a joy killer,” Dina hopped, following me hurriedly.

“What I know is that I’m not going to be a part of this drama, so I advise you find someone else,” I replied, walking at my usual pace.

“You are my best friend, and you must help me,” Dina bickered, pouting.

When we got to class, the history teacher was already there teaching, we greeted and walked to our seats trying to collect ourselves before starting the notes.

“Hey, how are you feeling now?” Slosh asked, smiling at me, that was when I realized he actually had a one-sided dimple.

“I’m much better, thank you,” I replied, smiling and extending my hand to him for a handshake.

All through the lecture, I kept staring at Jerald’s empty seat at the other end of the class.

“Slosh, do you have an idea if Jerald is in school?” I asked, pointing at Jerald’s empty desk.

“Not really, but he may be in detention,” Slosh replied nonchalantly.

“Di, where’s Jerald serving detention?” I whispered to Dina who was sitting right in front of me.

“I think he’ll be at the gym today,” Dina responded unsure.

“I don’t get today?” I asked in confusion.

“He served detention Friday also, but today is supposed to be his last day,” Dina responded before turning back to face the teacher.

“Excuse me sir, may I use the restroom?” I called out to my teacher from my seat.

“Yes, you may,” he responded, turning to the board.

Slipping my phone into my fanny pack, I headed to the gym. When I got to the gym, my heart suddenly began pounding fast, inhaling deeply, I entered into the gym.

On entering, I sighted Jerald arranging the seats.

“Bling!” I shouted from the door, smiling and walking to him.

The smile he reciprocated was so bright, it could get one blind.

“Hey Zhino,” he breathed, facing me and taking both my hands.

“Hey bling,” I said, confused. I had wanted bringing up the topic we spoke about on Friday, but I was even more confused as to how I needed to open the closed chapter again.

“Bling, I’m so sorry, I couldn’t say a word of comfort to you the other day, I was dumbfounded still trying to process all you had told me. I can’t even imagine living with that trauma, but just know I’ll be by you and help you walk out of this trauma, and I love you,” I said, finally gathering the courage to speak.

There was silence for a minute as we kept staring into each other’s eyes, the kind of silence that usually led to a kiss in the movies.
