Chapter 58 Shattered Chaos
Godiva POV
The world fell silent yet again, all I could hear was my heart racing very fast as Jerald held on to me tightly.
He held my dress like a child holding onto his candy. “What is all this trash you’re spitting, Jay?” Lis asked Jerald, trying hard to stop herself from sobbing.
It was obvious Jerald was crashing out as a result of Ben’s confession, and Lis couldn’t take it.
To worsen the situation, the crowd began to gossip.
“She’s a real gold-digger,” I heard someone say amidst the murmurs coming from the gym.
“Stop this, both of you, people are already having the wrong notion.”
“Everyone here today is a witness that I was the one who came after you and not the other way around. Everything I did with Lis around you was only to make you jealous,” Jerald said in between desperation and confusion.
If this had happened in any other situation, it would have probably been romantic, but the whole situation made it disgusting and embarrassing.
“So now you admit you love her?” Ben asked, smiling mischievously.
“Is he a psycho or a sadist? How can he still smile in this mess?” I thought to myself, letting go of Ben.
“My flowers,” Ben said, rushing to pick the bouquet, which was already on the ground from all of the chaos.
Dina was already sober when Ben went further to enrage the crowd.
“Everyone,” Ben announced, climbing a bench not far from where we were, “I don’t love Diva! I repeat, I do not love Diva!”
Everyone stared at him in confusion, including Jerald.
But he kept on in his speech. “I had to do this to provoke Jerald into confessing to her.”
He then jumped down from the bench. “I love you, Jerald, and I will never hurt you. I needed to test your boundaries and open your eyes.”
I could see shock written all over Jerald’s face, he bowed his head in shame.
Ben finally broke the silence. “Div, I’m sorry I had to put you in a tough spot. I really needed Jerald to accept his feelings for once.”
Ben’s methods were unhinged, sparking an uproar from the crowd watching.
“One last thing,” he announced as our sports master returned, “this bouquet was made for the girl I actually love, Dina.” Stepping down, he walked toward her.
“Dinaaaa!” I screamed. “He just confessed to you!”
“This is sick,” Dina said, suddenly bursting into tears.
“I’m sorry you had to go through this, this boy needed my guidance,” he teased, pointing at Jerald.
“I’m sorry the flowers are rumpled, but my love for you isn’t. Please be my love. I don’t know the future, but I know that right now you are all I need,” Ben said, going down on one knee and handing the rumpled flowers to Dina.
“What are you waiting for, girl? Take it,” I said, cheering as everyone joined in.
From Dina’s expression, I knew she was speechless.
“I mean every word I said,” Ben continued, taking her palms.
“I’m overwhelmed,” Dina said, wiping her tears. “I believe this is mine.” She smiled, taking the flower from his hands.
“Woooo!” I cheered as everyone joined, including Jerald.
“May I?” Ben said, drawing her to himself. With his hand wrapped around her waist, he gently pecked her on her forehead.
“This party is over,” the sports master announced, blowing his whistle.
“Detention for the four of you,” he continued, pointing at us.
“Booooo,” the class echoed.
“But sir, why do we join them in detention?” I asked, raising my hand.
“There,” he replied, pointing to the CCTV camera in the gym. “Sir—”
“No protest. Everyone in twos,” he announced, blowing his whistle again.
“Where is Lis?” I whispered in Dina’s ear.
“She’s probably somewhere sobbing,” Dina said, imitating her.
“Let’s partner up,” Jerald said, attempting to lock his arms with mine.
“No,” I replied coldly.
“You still have lots of explaining to do. By the way, I’m teaming up with Dina,” I said, turning back to Dina.
“Oh great!” I exclaimed when I sighted Dina already teamed up with Ben.
“See, you have no option,” Jerald mocked, stretching his palms to me.
“Whatever, dude,” I said, pushing his hands and walking away.
“What happened in school today? Am I dreaming?” Dina asked, still in shock.
“It’s really overwhelming, I almost fainted on the spot,” I replied.
“Fainted? I thought our friendship was going to end there,” Dina said, laughing hysterically.
“So you were ready to sever ties with me for those boys?” I queried Dina.
“Yes,” she teased, running backward. She always did that whenever she wanted me to chase after her.
“Give up, I won’t chase after you,” I said coldly.
“Where will you tell Mum you got this bouquet from?” Dina asked, pointing at the bouquet in my hand.
“Here you go, miss,” I said, handing her the flower and taking a bow. “I almost forgot, Jerald said to give the bouquet to you,” I continued, laughing. “And yeah, he said there’s a note from him in the rumpled bouquet.”
“But wait up, girl,” Dina said as we approached their block, “what do you want to do with Jerald?” She asked in an unusually soft manner.
“Nothing. I can’t possibly date him, there are lots of problems I’m not ready to face,” I said in a distraught manner. “You don’t mean that, do you?” Dina asked.
“I mean it, bro. Mama doesn’t like him already from the saga he caused, and I’m not sure I want to risk dating someone as childish as Jerald,” I said.
“You have a point, but Mama mustn’t know you’re dating, especially not him,” Dina said. “What he did was foolish, but I’m sure he has changed, so give him a chance,” she added with a smile.
We got to school early the next morning as always, but I wasn’t focusing on my studies. I was only contemplating in my head whether to date Jerald or not.
It was finally time for classes, and Jerald hadn’t walked in through the door in his usual elegant manner.
“Jerald isn’t here yet,” Dina whispered in my ear, minutes after the staff began teaching.
“I’ll go check if Ben is in class,” I replied.
“Sir,” I said, raising my hand to the staff, “I need to use the clinic.”
“Sure,” he signaled.
I could hear my heartbeat and my steps quicken as I approached Ben’s class.
