Chapter 107 TRYING TO WIN HER BACK

Chapter 107 TRYING TO WIN HER BACK
Godiva POV

Hearing those words from Jerald sounded like a joke to me. Jerald breaking the engagement with Lis by himself didn’t even sound possible since he was always too scared of what his dad might do.

“What has breaking your engagement got to do with me?” I questioned indifferently, crossing my arms.

“According to Chinese culture, Lis can no longer walk over you and go free. I can sue her now since we no longer have a string attached,” Jerald explained, his voice shaky with emotion.

Without replying to him, I simply giggled and looked away dismissively.

“You don’t believe me?” Jerald pressed, carefully studying my expression.

“No, I don’t,” I laughed coldly, shaking my head.

“That was actually the first thing he did today before coming over to your house.”

Ben’s voice suddenly came from behind, startling me immediately.

“For real?” Dina gasped, her mouth falling open in shock as she stepped into the cabana beside Ben.

“Yes, you needed to see Jerald,” Ben continued dramatically, taking over from him completely.

“Jerald barged into their mansion this morning and, as always, Lis walked up to him in her usual sly manner for a hug, but Jerald shoved her aside immediately.”

“Then he walked straight to her parents, who were doing yoga at their gym, and announced, ‘This engagement between Lis and I is over,’ before breaking the jade ring they exchanged.”

Ben paused briefly for effect before continuing animatedly.

“His announcement carried so much weight that Lis’s mother completely lost balance from her yoga position and fell flat.”

“After that, Jerald attempted walking away when Lis’s father demanded an explanation. That was when he exposed everything Lis did, including how she framed you at their mansion.”

“Anyways, the parents said they would sit and discuss before making any decision, but Jerald made it clear their decision had absolutely no power over his.”

“And that was how everything ended,” Ben concluded dramatically, finally taking a deep breath after talking nonstop for over five minutes.

For a second, I almost smiled hearing how Jerald finally manned up enough to go against his parents for me. Deep down, I silently wished I had been there to witness it myself.

But almost immediately, that smile slowly faded into a frown before tears gathered in my eyes.

“You breaking your engagement is thoughtful, but for now, I still need space from you,” I whispered painfully before dragging myself out of the cabana toward the beach.

The moment I sat facing the water, my tears began flowing freely.

For over ten minutes, nobody disturbed me as I struggled to calm myself down until Dina eventually interrupted the silence.

“So, are you done crying?” Dina teased lightly, dropping beside me while facing the waves.

“What!” I exclaimed defensively.

“Who says I was crying?” I added quickly, though my shaky voice betrayed me badly.

“See? You can’t even hide it,” Dina chuckled softly before pulling me into a hug.

“How did you even know I was crying?” I smiled weakly, drying my tears with the back of my palms.

“I know you too well, girl, but forget that part, literally everyone there knew you were crying,” Dina laughed, pointing directly toward the cabana.

“What! How sure are you they knew I was crying?” I asked curiously, stealing nervous side glances toward the cabana.

“Bro, you were literally sobbing. Your body sold you out completely, it kept moving up and down while you cried,” Dina burst out laughing.

“I suddenly feel embarrassed now,” I groaned, laughing along with her despite myself.

“It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Those tears were needed. I’m only sad you missed out on this beautiful beach experience,” Dina sighed sympathetically, rubbing my back gently.

“Girls, sorry to interrupt, but we need to leave now. I don’t want your mamas hanging my head on a pole for bringing you home late,” Ben joked warmly as he approached us with a smile.

“We were already about leaving,” Dina responded sweetly, turning toward him with a bright smile.

Dina helped me up from the ground before we all headed back toward the cabana.

At the cabana, I avoided every possible form of contact with Jerald because I already felt too embarrassed to even look him in the eyes.

“Let me help you with this,” Jerald offered softly, reaching for my bag and the gift bag while we packed up.

“Don’t bother, it’s not a burden,” I replied sarcastically, forcing out a fake smile.

“Well, I insist,” he smirked stubbornly before snatching the bags from my hands anyway.

“Now I’m feeling like a terrible person,” Ben complained dramatically before grabbing Dina’s bags too.

“Finally, you’re becoming gentlemanly,” Dina teased proudly, handing him the bags with extra drama.

That alone made all of us burst into laughter as we headed toward the car.

Our drive back home was solemn and painfully quiet. I sat at the extreme end of the car while Jerald occupied the opposite side, neither of us saying a single word to each other.

Ben and Dina barely interacted throughout the journey too. They simply stared at each other constantly, communicating silently through eye signals like two weird lovers in a movie.

“Haew...” Dina sighed dramatically in relief.

“Alas, the long toxic journey has finally come to an end,” she announced as the car drove into the nurses’ quarters.

“Thank you guys for making today fun,” I appreciated warmly while unbuckling my seatbelt.

“What fun did you even have today? Crying?” Ben teased loudly before breaking into uncontrollable laughter as Dina joined him immediately.

For a moment, embarrassment washed over me again. I only relaxed after noticing Jerald wasn’t even paying attention to us. He seemed completely lost in his own thoughts.

“Aren’t you surprised the mothers aren’t already waiting outside for us?” Dina asked curiously, turning toward me as we drove deeper into the block.

“I’m not surprised because it’s still a few minutes to seven, not even our curfew time yet,” I pointed out calmly after checking my wristwatch.

“Wow,” Dina exclaimed excitedly before pushing the car door open immediately we arrived at our block.

“I had a blast today,” Dina squealed happily before throwing herself straight into Ben’s arms.

“I love you, mi amor,” Ben whispered affectionately before planting a soft kiss on her forehead and wrapping her tightly in his embrace.

“I thought you’d kiss her openly in front of the block,” I teased mischievously, watching Ben carefully.

“You really want her mum hanging my head on the pole at the entrance of the quarters?” Ben laughed nervously before finally letting go of Dina.

“Here, Zhin,” Jerald called softly, stretching the bags toward me.

“Thank you,” I murmured, reaching out to collect them.

But before I could pull away, Jerald suddenly grabbed my hand and dragged me into him, forcing me straight into his embrace.
