Chapter Fifty Six

Catarina’s POV

I watched as David was pulled down from the pillar and taken down to the cell block, I felt glad to see hom go. He deserved it after all the pain that he had inflicted onto this kingdom.

I gazed down at my twins, a mix of conflicting emotions flooding my heart. Lochlan, the man who had caused me so much pain in the past, was now transforming before us. It was a surreal moment, one where I questioned everything I had ever believed.

Part of me had always wanted to shield my precious twins from Lochlan, to protect them from the darkness that had seeped into my life because of him. But something had changed, not just within Lochlan, but within me too. Perhaps, against all odds, he deserved a chance to be a part of their lives.

Lost for words, I looked from my children to Lochlan, searching for answers within their innocent eyes. As if sensing my internal struggle, Alex, my partner, wrapped an arm around my waist, offering his unwavering support. His words sounded, reminding me that the decision was ultimately mine.

Lochlan knelt before Nathan and Nadia, his hands gently grasping theirs. The tenderness in his touch was undeniable, and I held my breath as he met their wide, innocent gazes. At that moment, I saw the genuine love and commitment he had for these little souls, and my heart trembled.

"I have to go now, children," Lochlan's voice was filled with sadness and determination. "But please know that I love you both with all my heart, and I will never let any harm come to either of you." He leaned forward, placing a gentle kiss on each of their foreheads, sealing his promise with tenderness.

Silence hovered in the air as Lochlan stood up, gratitude and humility etched upon his features. He turned towards us, gratitude shimmering in his eyes. "Thank you, Queen Catarina and King Alex, for your forgiveness," he said, his words laden with sincerity. With a slight nod, he began to walk away, his steps heavy with the weight of the past and the newfound hope of a future.

I turned to Alex, my eyes filled with unspoken gratitude, knowing that we had made the right choice - driven not by fear but by the belief that redemption and love can heal even the deepest wounds.

As Lochlan turned to leave, I found myself torn between conflicting emotions. Part of me wanted to run after him, to apologise for my initial hesitation and assure him that I wanted him to be a part of our children's lives. But another part of me still held onto the hurt and anger from our past, unsure if I could fully trust him.

I looked at Alex, seeking his guidance and support in this crucial moment. His arm around my waist tightened slightly as he spoke, understanding the weight of the decision before me. "Catarina, listen to your heart. Only you can decide what's best for your children and yourself. I will support you in whatever you choose.

Taking a deep breath, I walked over to the twins, kneeling beside them. "Nathan, Nadia, Lochlan loves you both very much, and he wants to be a part of your lives. It's your choice, too. Would you like to get to know your daddy?"

The children looked at me, their innocent eyes searching for guidance. After contemplating, Nathan spoke up, his tiny voice filled with curiosity and hope. "I want to know him, Mummy. I want to know my daddy, but I want to know Alex, too."

Nadia nodded in agreement, her trust in my judgment evident. "Yes, mummy. I want to, too."

I hugged them both and nodded my head.

Lochlan stood with his back to us as he said something to his pack.

. "Lochlan, please wait. We want to give you a chance." My voice held a mixture of emotions, but overriding them all was a genuine desire to give our children the love and support they deserved.

"Thank you, Catarina," he began, his voice laced with sincerity. "This means everything to me. I promise, with every ounce of my being, to be the father that Nathan and Nadia deserve." His words hung in the air, carrying the weight of his genuine commitment, and my heart trembled once more.

“I will return to my pack and rebuild it to be stronger and a better Alpha. My pack deserves that.”

I stuttered, my uncertainty palpable. "But what will you do without a beta? It's a crucial role for a pack leader," I voiced, my worry seeping into my words. Lochlan, however, smiled reassuringly, dismissing my concerns."I would rather have no beta than someone I honestly couldn't trust," Lochlan responded firmly, his eyes filled with determination. His words held a weight of disappointment, a bitter reminder of the betrayal he had faced. "David was a traitor," he added, his voice tinged with anger and hurt. “My pack deserves someone that they can put their trust in. David deserves to rot in hell for what he has done.”

His eyes turned back to the Twins, laughing and joking together without a care in the world. I smiled proudly at them, knowing they would grow up in a happy family and become strong leaders one day.

“Lochlan," Alex's voice echoed with determination as he walked towards Lochlan and locked eyes with the Alpha. "I propose that we join forces. The might of my kingdom will be fully at your pack's disposal, providing support and backing in all your endeavours."

I watched as Lochlan couldn't help but be taken aback by the offer. The potential advantages of aligning with a powerhouse like Alex and his prosperous kingdom were undeniable. It presented an opportunity for his pack to rise to new heights to secure their future in an uncertain world.

“So, what do you think?” Alex said.

After a moment of silence, Lochlan finally spoke, his voice filled with gratitude and caution. "Your offer is generous, Alex, and I appreciate your support. It would undoubtedly provide my pack with opportunities we've only dreamed of. But, before I decide, I must consult my pack, for they will be directly affected by this alliance."

Alex nodded understandingly, acknowledging the validity of Lochlan's response. "Of course, Lochlan. I highly respect your commitment to your pack. Take the time you need, and when you've reached a decision, please let me know. The offer stands."
