Chapter 128

Chapter 128
My breathe caught in my throat when my fingers wrapped around a cold metal and I realised what it was.

A fork!

I didn't think even for once before acting. I tightened my hold around it, lifted up and swung my arm upward to drive it into the side of his neck.

He let out a strangled sound and jerked back instantly, his grip loosening as shock flashed across his face. Air rushed into my lungs and I sucked it in greedily while coughing violently.

But I didn't stop there.

Fear gave me strength I didn’t know I had. Before he could understand what exactly happened with him, I once again stabbed the sharper part of the fork into his skin. This time I aimed at his vein but he quickly moved which saved his life.

He let out a hoarse sound and collapsed beside me. His hand reached out for his neck. He stared at me with wide eyes as if seeing me for the first time.

With all the strength left in me, I kicked him where the sun doesn't shine and rolled off the bed.

"Ouuhhh!" He cried out in pain "I will not let this go" he threatened me.

But I was already in my own zone to give head to his words. I needed to find a way out of this place because this could prove one of the best chance.

The doors were locked and I didn't have much time to search for the keys. My chest rose and fell violently as my eyes scanned the room wildly for something, anything!

He was taking his time because he thought I cannot do anything but a wave of hope passed through me when I saw his mobile phone lying on the bed. It probably had fallen during the struggle.

I quickly lunged for it and snatched it before he could read my mind and I lost this chance.

Suddenly he became alert.

“You—” His voice broke into a cough. “You bitch—”

He quickly sat up and I had only split of a second to act. The edit door was too far so I just ran for the bathroom.

He almost reached me when I slammed the door shut behind me and locked myself inside. My hands trembled so badly I almost dropped the phone.

"Serena, open the door" he banged on the door like a madman but I was not going to open it, no matter what.

My heart slammed against my ribs as I pressed my back against the door to keep it intact.

Another loud bang shook the door.

“Open it,” he growled from the other side. His breathing was harsh and ragged. “Open the fucking door, Serena.”

I pressed my back against the door more, putting all my strength but my knees gave out and I sat down on the floor.

My chest heaved as I unlocked the phone dialing his password which I already knew. Kayden gave me this phone to call Bryan. I didn't know this password would help me today as well.

The way Kayden is banging on the door, I don't think I have much time. I would have to act fast and smart.

The moment phone was unlocked, I turned on the location services. If he broke the door at least Matteo could track it.
My heart came to my throat when he kicked against the door. My body shook with the impact.

“You think a lock will stop me?” he snarled. “You stabbed me, Serena. Do you have any idea what you’ve done?”

Tears blurred my vision, but I blinked them away.

I opened the call log to call Matteo. I searched for his number only to find he has blocked him.

Damn!

My thumb trembled when I moved it to unblock him.

“Open the door!” he shouted. “Before I break it and make you regret—”

I didn’t let his words have any effect on me. I unblocked Matteo’s number with one swipe and hit call.

My hands turned cold and my heart started hammering even louder when the phone started ringing. I pressed it harder to my ear, my free hand clamped over my mouth to muffle my sob.

“Please,” I whispered, my voice barely a sound. “Please pick up.”

The door shuddered again and this time the wood crackled.

God please, help me!

“I’m warning you, Serena” Kayden’s voice came. He sounded very dangerous “you are already in a very big trouble. Don't make it harder for yourself”

I closed my eyes, let the tears dribble down my cheeks as I prayed for Matteo to just pick up the call.

And then as if my prayers were heard, the call was picked up.

"Kayden, you bastard! Where have you taken my Sera. I will kill you!" Matteo roared from the other end of the call, thinking it was Kayden. I could hear the anger in his voice.

“Matteo,” I breathed. “Matteo, it's me. Serena"

"Sera?" His voice came out soft and full of concern, completely in contrast to before.

I clutched the phone with both hands like it was my last lifeline.

"Matteo... Kay... Kayden has kidnapped me" I swallowed hard as my throat turned completely dry.

A loud bang came from behind and for a moment it felt as if Kayden has broke the door. I looked up to find that it will come out anytime.

Matteo was trying to say something but I cannot hear him properly because of the noise behind me.

"Matteo... It was Kayden. Kayden did all that. I have proof..."

"Shh Sera..."

More tears dribbled down my cheeks when I heard his voice. It was soothing and comforting. The voice that belongs to the Matteo I loved.

He also held me captive. He wasn't much different from Kayden, still I knew only he can protect me at the moment.

"I know everything. Please tell me where you are" he was trying to talk softly to me, given how scared I was but I knew deep down he was burning with rage. He just wanted to burn the entire world.

"I don't know..." I cried out "I was unconscious. I have got hands on his phone with much difficulty. He is breaking the door and will be here any moment. I have turned on the location. Please Matteo, come soon" I said everything in a breathe.

And before I could say anything anymore or hear Matteo, the door broke.

I had to crawl away from the door to save myself. The broken door landed on the floor with a loud thud, just beside me. I was saved only by centimetres.

But what dreaded me more was the devil standing the doorway.

My body went cold, as if every drop of blood had drained from my veins at once. My limbs refused to move, rooted to the spot despite my mind screaming at me to run. He looked different now, completely different from how I know him. His eyes were wild, jaw tightly clenched.

A loud scream tore through my mouth as my arm came up to cover my eyes when he stepped ahead and his shadow covered me.

I knew that was my last moment on earth...
