Chapter 126

Chapter 126
Serena's POV

I flinched slightly when he raised his hand at me, but I didn’t back away. Neither did I close my eyes out of fear.

I kept waiting for him to make the move, but his hand froze midair.

“What, Kayden?” I asked. “Why did you stop?” My jaw twitched as I met his eyes without blinking. “Hit me. Come on—hit me. Show me how much more of a coward in the name of the man you can be.”

His fingers curled slowly, nails digging into his palm. His jaw tightened, and the casual expression he’d been wearing cracked completely. His eyes narrowed at me. They became dark and sharp.

“What did you just call me?” he asked, in a low and dangerous tone.

“A coward,” I repeated, loud and clear for him to hear “You stalked me, clicked my photographs, stayed hidden behind a facade for years, and now you’ve kidnapped me. What do you call all this if not that?”

For a second, the room went dead silent. Even my own breathing sounded too loud.

“Shut up,” he barked.

“Why?” I challenged. “Afraid the truth might finally choke you?”

His eyes burned into mine but I didn't look away. I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of surrender.

He took a step toward me, then another, stopping just inches away. I could feel his breath on my face.

“Say one more word,” he warned, “and I swear...”

“You swear what?” I cut in. “Hurt me? You already have. Scare me? Too late. Break me?” My lips curved into a bitter smile. “You can’t.”

His jaw clenched so tightly I thought his teeth might shatter. His hands fisted at his sides, shaking violently.

I provoked him too much. This time I was sure he will hit me but instead he took a step back. He grabbed the back of the chair nearby and hurled it across the room. It crashed into the wall and splintered loudly, while I stayed at my place like a statue.

He can do the hell he wants. He can rot in this place all he wants. I don't care.

He shouted and pulled his hair. He looked out of control and wanted to destroy something. His head snapped to me.

I raised one of my eyebrows. He gave me one last glance from head to toe before walking away.

I don't know where he disappeared, all I knew was that for now I was alone.

God, send some help or show me the way...

Matteo's POV

The engine roared beneath my hands, but it wasn’t loud enough to drown the noise inside my head.

I drove as fast as I could. My thoughts were running wild. A storm was going inside me. My eyes turned bloodshot red, my fingers were curled around the steering wheel so tightly that my knuckles turned white.

Kayden.

His name tasted like rust now.

He was my brother. He was the only one whom I allowed to be near Serena because I trusted him. I never knew he would backstab like this. He would hurt me like no one else.

He knew about my weaknesses and he broke me there only.

Why?

Why Kayden!

It is hurting more than I could explain. He always stood beside me, smiled at me as if I was his world, kept me in darkness by choosing boys over girls so that I don't suspected closeness with Serena, so that he could maintain his friendship.

How cheap!

Yes, I met Serena through him but she always chose me over him. He was his friend and I was his love.

Kayden crossed his boundaries.

I wouldn't have mind if he had asked for the business, power, position or money. He went straight to my heart, breaking me the way no one ever could.

And not only this he destroyed me by putting fake allegations on me.

How can he do that!

Didn't he think even once about me? How painful it could be there for me?

Even the enemies would have thought twice before doing it to someone and my own brother did that to me.

And me... Me being the stupidest one, gave the punishment to Serena. The only person who truly loved me ever, who never demanded anything from me for herself, who selflessly took care of me, who always prayed for my good.

"Fuck!"

I slammed my palm against the steering wheel.

My heart is shuddering in my chest with the thought of Serena. First she suffered because of me and now Kayden...

I couldn't even protect her.

I bit my lower lip when the emotions overwhelmed me. I didn't shed a single tear when I was sentenced for the crime I never committed. I didn't cry even when I was tortured in the most inhuman way in the jail but now... Now the tears stung my eyes. My face turned red when I tried to control them.

I can't cry!

I can't...

A sharp breath tore out of my chest as my phone vibrated on the dashboard.

“Car is now moving to the east,” one of my men said. "We are just behind you"

I let out a deep sigh as I changed the gear. Every second felt like an eternity. I just hope I reach Serena before that monster does something to her.

I don't know what I would do to him and to myself if something happened to her.

No!

I will catch him.

God suddenly started blinking as we reached closer to Kayden's car. My eyes narrowed when I saw his car.

Rage surged so fast it blurred my vision. I barely stopped before I was out of the car, gun already in my hand, men spilling out behind me like shadows.

I was so blinded by anger that I didn't even see who was inside. I just yanked the driver’s door open and dragged the man out by his collar and slammed him against the hood.

He hid his face behind his palms, his whole body was shivering like a leaf.

"Leave me.... Leave me ..."

I froze when I noticed that it wasn't Kayden. My eye eyebrows drew together.

"Who are you?"

The man looked at me with wide eyes as if he was seeing his death.

"I... I..."

"Where is Kayden?" I barked at his face before he could complete himself. He forgot his name as well. It felt like he would piss in his pants anytime. He was definitely not even Kayden's man.

"Tell me!" I roared "where is he or I will kill you right here"

"I... I don't know" he joined his hands "Please, I have a family to look after. I don't know where he is. He sold me his car yesterday at a very low price."

He swallowed

"I just bought it because it was my dream car and I got it at such a low price"

I was about to hit him because right now, I didn't want to trust anyone but Nick placed his hand on my shoulder, stopping me.

"Sir, let him go. He is not lying. Kayden sold his car to him"

Nick showed me the papers that he found in the backseat.

Fuck!

He planned this kidnapping long ago.

I swear, Kayden. I am not going to leave you.
