Chapter 55 Apology
Olivia looked up in surprise, finding herself face-to-face with Luca's striking profile.
Luca firmly wrapped his arm around Olivia. "I'll go with you to see your classmate off."
Without waiting for Olivia to respond, he led her out.
A few employees close to Windy exchanged glances and quickly went to comfort Windy, who had been left behind. "Windy, didn't you say Olivia and Luca are getting a divorce? It doesn't look like it. They seem pretty close."
Windy forced a smile, her voice soft. "You don't get it. This is a public setting. They have to keep up appearances."
Hearing her explanation, the others nodded right away. "Oh, I see. You really know Luca. He must care about you. Otherwise, he wouldn't have pushed Olivia aside and kept you as his secretary."
Windy could barely keep smiling. She lowered her head, her nails digging into her palm.
Downstairs.
Melo's car was already waiting.
Melo turned to say goodbye to Olivia, completely ignoring Luca. "Olivia, the next time we meet will be at Monday's meeting. I'm looking forward to it."
Olivia didn't think much of it, assuming it was just polite talk. She smiled and nodded. "I'm looking forward to it too. See you Monday."
Melo opened the car door, got in, and threw Olivia a wink.
Luca's face darkened. It felt like Melo was deliberately provoking him.
Olivia watched the car drive away, letting out a sigh of relief. Today's collaboration had gone smoothly, at least.
She was about to speak, wanting to tell Luca to be nicer to Melo in the future, but Luca suddenly pulled his arm away from her. Without a word, he turned and walked back toward the company.
Olivia hadn't expected him to get mad out of nowhere. She didn't want to argue with Luca, so she headed to the staff elevator nearby.
Just as the elevator doors were about to close, a hand shot in to stop them.
Without saying a word, Luca pulled Olivia out of the elevator and dragged her into the private executive elevator.
In the quiet elevator, it was just the two of them.
Luca pressed the button for the top floor, crossed his arms, and didn't bother hiding his anger. "The guy's already gone, and you're still standing there staring. This time it's a meeting on Monday, next time are you going to meet up privately for a date?"
Olivia thought Luca was out of his mind, acting like a crazy guy. How did he even connect those two things?
She couldn't help but laugh. "Luca, the way you're acting right now—you look like a pitiful wife suspecting her husband of cheating."
As soon as the words left her mouth, she froze.
A pitiful wife suspecting her husband of cheating...
Wasn't that exactly who she was?
The mocking smile on Olivia's face slowly faded.
Luca was furious at her words. Seeing her expression darken, he felt even more frustrated. He lifted his chin and ordered, "You didn't forget what I said last night, did you? You're not allowed to contact Melo privately. And if you see him outside of work, I have to be there."
Olivia was already feeling down, and hearing his unreasonable demand made her even angrier. "You already hit Melo. Do you think he wants any contact with you?"
"What do you mean? You promised me, and now you're going back on your word?" Luca pressed, his tone getting harsher.
Olivia lost her temper and blurted out, "Fine, if you want me to agree, then make Windy apologize to me! She let her coworker spread rumors about me today, and it really hurt. I want her to come to the project team and apologize to me in front of everyone!"
Luca was stunned. He hadn't expected Olivia to make such a demand.
The elevator dinged, and as the doors opened, Olivia didn't wait for Luca's response. She headed straight to the project department.
She was just saying it off the cuff anyway. Windy was the person Luca cared about most. There was no way he'd agree to such an unreasonable condition or let Windy be humiliated like that.
Olivia returned to her office, sat down, and started working.
Two minutes later, before she could even finish reading a single document, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
Windy pushed the door open, her eyes red. "Olivia, I'm here to apologize."
Olivia was shocked and didn't know what to say.
Windy walked in, tears streaming down her face. "I'm sorry. I don't know why Amy said those things about you earlier. I'm close to her, but I definitely didn't tell her to target you."
Windy raised her voice on purpose, and the employees outside the office started gathering around. "I'm really sorry. I couldn't stop her."
Windy lowered her head, hearing footsteps behind her, and sighed. "Amy must have heard from somewhere that you and Luca are getting a divorce. She thought you wouldn't be the CEO's wife much longer, so she acted out of line. Please don't take it to heart."
Olivia's heart sank. She suddenly realized that all the employees from the project department gathered outside had heard everything.
She wasn't worried about them knowing about the divorce or what they thought of her marriage with Luca. She was afraid this news would reach Lunis's ears and affect his health.
With so many people in the department hearing this, if the rumor spread, the consequences would be unimaginable.
"Enough!" Olivia stood up, glaring coldly at Windy. "The divorce thing is fake. I don't know who started spreading this nonsense, but as a company employee and the president's secretary, you should be clearing things up—not repeating them in front of everyone. What exactly are you trying to do?"
Olivia's barrage of questions left Windy no room to save face.
Windy hadn't expected Olivia to be so tough and scold her in front of everyone. She was stunned, her face full of embarrassment. She even forgot to fake cry. "I-I didn't, I just..."
Seeing Windy about to play the victim again, Olivia cut her off coldly. "If you feel wronged or think I'm mistaken, let's go to the president's office right now. We can talk this out in front of Luca and see who's responsible!"
With that, Olivia stepped forward and grabbed Windy's wrist. "Come on, I'll go with you to see Luca!"
Windy completely panicked.
She had only wanted to let everyone hear about their upcoming divorce and make it clear that she would be Luca's wife in the future, while Olivia would soon be abandoned by him.
But saying it like this would definitely upset Luca, since he didn't want the family to know about it yet.
"I'm not going..." Windy struggled awkwardly, pulling her hand free from Olivia. "Olivia, this is my fault. I shouldn't have said anything. I'm sorry. Whatever happens between you and Luca is your own business. I shouldn't have listened to rumors or talked about them."
The people in the project department saw how guilty Windy looked and just brushed off everything she'd said earlier.
"Olivia and Luca aren't getting a divorce. Their relationship is solid. Just now, when they were seeing off Mr. Gerald, they were even hugging."
"Windy became the president's secretary and got close to the boss, so she thinks she can replace Olivia. That's disgusting!"
Whispers started around them, all directed at Windy.
Windy rubbed her wrist, which hurt from Olivia's grip, her eyes full of resentment. She didn't dare say anything more and quickly turned to leave.
Once Windy was gone, the employees came over to comfort Olivia. "Olivia, don't take Windy's words to heart. We know you and Luca are good together. You're not getting a divorce."
Olivia was touched by their concern but couldn't say anything.
She and Luca were indeed getting a divorce.
She had only denied it publicly to stop the rumors.
She wondered if Luca heard about this, would he think she didn't want to divorce and wasn't willing to give up the position of Mrs. Vettel to Windy?
