Chapter 246 The Truth
Chapter 246 The Truth
Luca nodded, pulled out his phone, and called his assistant. His tone was serious: "Pull all the surveillance from the nursing home right now. Focus on the garden and caregivers' dorm, especially the footage from this morning before and after Linus fell. The faster, the better."
He paused, then added: "Have the legal team bring verification gear. Check the note in the caregiver's hand and the transfer records to see if they're fake."
The assistant on the phone sounded shocked and thrilled: "Boss, you're awake? Great! I'll get on it. Footage on your phone in ten minutes, legal team heading there now!"
After hanging up, Luca turned to Liam with an icy stare: "Confess now, and I might let you off once. Did you hurt Grandpa? Did you fake the evidence? Did you bribe the caregiver?"
Liam tried to act calm and shot back: "I didn't! Don't make false accusations! The caregiver said it herself. It has nothing to do with me. I just can't stand you being fooled by her!"
"Can't stand it?" Luca sneered. "You know exactly what you're up to. The footage is coming soon. You won't have any excuses then."
Just as he finished, the caregiver on her knees broke down. She jerked her head up, tears all over her face, and kowtowed to Luca over and over: "Mr. Vettel, I was wrong. I really was!"
Liam's heart sank. He yelled at her: "What are you saying? Who told you to talk nonsense!"
"It was you! You bribed me!" the caregiver sobbed, her voice full of fear. "Last week you found me, gave me money, and threatened me. You said if I didn't do it, you'd kill me and my family!"
As she spoke, she pulled an envelope and a note from her pocket and handed them over: "This is the money you gave me, and the note you wrote. It said to skip Linus's medicine on purpose, sprinkle water in the garden that morning to make him fall, then frame Olivia! I didn't want to, but I was scared you'd hurt my family. I had no choice. Please forgive me, Mr. Vettel!"
The corridor exploded in chatter, louder than before.
"Oh my god, it really was Liam!"
"So ruthless! Threatening the caregiver and setting up Linus on purpose!"
The police stepped up right away, took the envelope and note from her, and pulled out a notepad. They said softly: "Calm down. Tell us everything step by step."
Liam stood frozen, feeling cold all over. His legs shook as he stared at the evidence. His mind went blank. He never thought the caregiver would flip on him like that.
Right then, Luca's phone rang. It was the assistant: "Boss, footage is on your phone. We're at the nursing home gate."
Luca hung up, opened the footage on his phone, and linked it to the corridor's big screen.
The screen first showed last week: Liam sneaking into the nursing home, handing an envelope to the caregiver in a corner. They talked a long time, and she looked terrified.
Next, that morning: The caregiver sneaked water onto the garden path while Linus wasn't looking. When Linus walked up, she stepped back on purpose and didn't help. He slipped and crashed down. She froze for a few seconds, then faked panic and yelled for help.
Finally, still that morning: Liam hiding in the garden corner, watching Linus fall. After she yelled, he slipped away quietly, then came back later with fake documents.
The video was crystal clear. Every detail showed. Solid proof.
Liam stared at the screen. His legs buckled, and he nearly fell. His face went white as a sheet, eyes full of despair.
"No... that's not it. The footage is fake! You faked it!" he roared, but his voice had zero confidence. It sounded pathetic.
"Fake?" Luca said coldly. "The nursing home cams are high-def with backups. Who could fake that?"
That line shattered Liam's last hope.
He dropped to his knees with a thud, hands on his head, sobbing hard: "I was wrong. I shouldn't have been greedy, hurt Grandpa, framed Olivia... Please let me off..."
The police came up, pulled out cuffs, and stood in front of him: "Liam, you're suspected of harming an elderly person on purpose, false accusation, and threats. Come with us for questioning."
Liam didn't fight it. He let them cuff him. He looked up at Luca, eyes burning with hate and bitterness, but totally helpless.
"Luca, I can't accept this..." he muttered.
Luca didn't even glance at him. His tone was ice-cold: "You did this to yourself."
The police took Liam away and told the caregiver: "You come too, to help with the investigation."
She nodded fast and followed. Before going, she apologized to Olivia over and over: "Olivia, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have framed you. Please forgive me."
Olivia shook her head and stayed quiet. She felt no pity. They deserved it.
The crowd saw the truth come out and started to leave. Before going, they apologized to Olivia: "Olivia, sorry. We shouldn't have doubted you."
Olivia smiled and nodded: "It's fine. We were all fooled."
The corridor finally went quiet, leaving just Luca, Olivia, the assistant, and the legal team.
The assistant stepped up with a relieved smile: "Sir, ma'am, it's all sorted. Liam's gone, evidence checks out. Ma'am's name is fully cleared."
Luca nodded, tone serious: "Handle the rest. Legal team, follow Liam's case. Make sure he gets punished properly."
He paused and added: "Tell the nursing home to fire all the old caregivers. Hire new reliable ones for 24-hour care on Linus. No more accidents."
"Got it, boss. On it now." The assistant nodded and left.
The legal head stepped up: "Mr. Vettel, Mrs. Vettel, we'll head back to sort the evidence and work with police to make sure Liam faces justice."
"Thanks for the hard work." Luca nodded.
The legal team left too, leaving just Luca and Olivia.
Luca squatted down, took Olivia's hand, and rubbed the back of it gently with his fingertips. His eyes were full of concern: "You were wronged. Had to handle all that alone."
Olivia looked at him, eyes welling up again, but she smiled and shook her head: "Not wronged. You woke up and got here in time. That's all I need."
All the hurt and tiredness from these days vanished right then.
Luca reached up and gently wiped the last tears from her face. His voice was soft: "Exhausted, huh? These days you ran the company, cared for me and Leo. No good rest."
Olivia nodded and leaned on his shoulder. She said quietly: "A little tired, but better now. You're awake. Grandpa's still out but not in danger anymore. Liam's caught. Everything will be okay."
