Chapter 21 She Had Amnesia
Olivia’s mind instantly filled with worry. She didn’t want to hear any more bad news.
"You kept fainting before, so I arranged a full brain CT scan for you to check if there was another cause," Jason said, handing her the report and pointing to one of the images. "The results show a small shadow in your brain."
A shadow in her brain?
Olivia froze, taking the report. The medical terms she couldn't understand made her heart sink little by little. "Is it serious? Am I going to be okay?" She had never imagined there could be something wrong with her brain.
"Don't worry, it shouldn't affect your daily life or thinking," Jason quickly explained, though he frowned a bit. "But something like this usually means you had a head injury or some kind of brain condition in the past. Olivia, try to remember—did you ever have a serious head injury when you were younger?"
Olivia tried hard to remember, but nothing came to mind. She shook her head. "I've never had any head injury or brain condition."
Jason looked determined. "No, you must have been sick or injured. Otherwise, how do you explain this shadow? And its location might be related to memory function."
Olivia's eyes widened. "Are you saying I might have lost some memories and don't remember the injury?"
Jason nodded, lowering his voice. "Yes, severe brain trauma or illness can cause fragmented memory loss. That means you might have forgotten certain periods of time."
Suddenly, something clicked for Olivia. "Wait, I think I remember! When I was about six or seven, I got really sick. I slept for a long time, and when I woke up, my mom was holding me and crying."
After that, for a long while, she always felt like there was an empty spot in her mind, like she had forgotten something important. But she could never figure out what it was.
She was so young back then and couldn't explain the feeling. She just felt sad.
Jason tucked the blanket around her. "That's probably what caused it, leading to some memory loss."
Olivia frowned. "Do I need treatment now?"
Jason glanced through the report, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "It's not dangerous at the moment. If you're open to it, we could try some therapies that might help you recover some of those lost memories."
Olivia felt a spark of hope. "If it's really possible to get them back, I'm willing to try."
Her mom had already passed away, and any memory related to her was precious.
Jason spoke gently, "I can't guarantee we'll recover everything. But the treatments are safe and won't be hard on you."
Olivia didn't hesitate. "Okay."
Jason gave her an encouraging smile. "Let's put together a treatment plan today. But…" His face grew serious. "Olivia, until your body's fully recovered, you shouldn't think about having an abortion for at least the next month. Right now, you're not strong enough for any kind of surgery. You need to focus on getting healthy first."
Olivia nodded, feeling a bit disappointed but quickly accepting it.
A month was fine.
She needed time to deal with company matters and take care of her health anyway.
Olivia touched her belly, her emotions mixed. This child would be with her a little longer. She just hoped no one would find out. Before the divorce, she absolutely couldn't let Luca know about it.
"I understand, Jason. Thank you. I'm counting on you for my treatment," she said sincerely.
Jason gave a gentle smile. "No need to thank me."
He pulled up a chair and sat down, setting up a plan for her recovery and nebulizer treatment. "Your first treatment will be in two days."
Olivia nodded. "I want to recover at home. Even if I stay in the hospital, people will still come by and interrupt me."
Jason was a bit worried but respected her decision. He personally drove her home.
When they got there, Olivia still felt weak all over, but her mood was much lighter. At least she didn't have to worry about someone annoying barging into her room.
She tidied up the guest room a bit, wanting to take a hot shower and get a good sleep. But then she realized her usual skincare products and a few pajamas were still at the place she shared with Luca.
Olivia hesitated for a moment but decided to go back and get them.
At this hour, Luca might be out socializing. They probably wouldn't run into each other.
She drove straight there. As soon as she unlocked the door, she heard the sound of the TV coming from the living room.
She paused. Was Luca home?
She lightened her steps, not wanting to alert him. She just wanted to grab her things and leave.
But when Olivia walked into the living room, it wasn't Luca she saw.
It was Windy.
Windy was wearing a nightgown, sitting on the couch watching a show, eating apple slices with a fork.
She had a bandage on her forehead and a yellow diamond necklace around her neck.
Olivia's face instantly turned cold.
Hearing footsteps, Windy turned her head and saw Olivia. She smiled. "Olivia, you're back! Are you feeling better? I was so worried about you!"
Windy walked over, reaching out to support Olivia's arm like they were best friends.
Olivia felt disgusted and coldly pushed Windy's hand away. "Don't touch me!"
She didn't hide her hostility and dislike for Windy at all.
Just then, footsteps came from the stairs. Luca appeared and saw Olivia pushing Windy's hand away.
His brows furrowed as he stepped between them, protecting Windy. "She's just concerned about you, Olivia. If you're not feeling well, don't take it out on others."
Olivia didn't look at him, only feeling tired. She just wanted to get out of there quickly. "Move. Don't block my way."
Windy looked hurt and stepped aside silently.
Seeing Olivia's pale face, Luca pulled a check from his pocket and handed it to her. "This is for the necklace. Windy just liked it too much. She didn't mean to steal anything. Let's put this behind us."
Olivia glanced at the check, then at the yellow diamond necklace on Windy's neck.
She remembered Jason's advice: don't get emotional, take care of your health.
Getting angry or arguing with these people and draining her energy wasn't worth it at all.
Olivia took the check, not even looking at the amount, and stuffed it into her pocket. "Fine, the necklace is hers now."
She walked past them, heading upstairs to grab her things from the bedroom.
Luca watched Olivia's back, feeling something was off.
He thought she'd refuse the check or throw some sarcastic remarks at him and Windy. But she didn't. She just calmly accepted it, as if him protecting Windy wasn't even worth getting upset over anymore.
Luca suddenly felt a pang of unease.
She wasn't like this before.
