Chapter 150 I Don’t Want to See You
The special assistant arrived quickly, bringing files, a bowl of light porridge, and a kids' meal for Leo.
Luca told him to put everything on the table and keep digging into what happened when Windy saved him back then, plus all the details of Olivia's tough times abroad—the more info, the better.
The assistant nodded, didn't ask questions, and left the room.
Luca set the kids' meal in front of Leo. "Leo, you hungry? Eat something first."
Leo glanced at the meal, then at Olivia, who was still out, and shook his head. "I'll wait for Mom to wake up and eat together."
"Mom won't wake up for a bit. Eat a little to tide you over, or she'll feel bad seeing you go hungry." Luca patiently talked him into it.
Leo hesitated, then picked up the spoon and started eating small bites, but his eyes never left Olivia.
Luca watched how sensible he was and felt even worse inside.
The kid was so grown-up at such a young age, all because he'd suffered with Olivia.
Luca picked up the porridge, took two sips, and lost his appetite.
His mind was all on Olivia. He was scared she'd feel bad when she woke up, scared she'd kick him out again.
About two hours later, Olivia's fingers twitched.
Luca noticed right away and leaned in close. "Olivia? You awake?"
Olivia's eyes slowly opened, still foggy. It took a while to focus, and when she saw Luca, her gaze turned ice cold.
She tried to sit up but got dizzy and fell back, frowning hard.
"Don't move. You just woke up, and you're still weak." Luca quickly held her, trying to help her lie back comfortably.
Olivia shoved his hand away, her voice cold. "Don't touch me."
Her voice was weak but full of distance and disgust.
Luca's hand froze in mid-air, his heart stabbing with pain, but he held back the hurt and said softly, "You just woke up. Drink some water."
"No need." Olivia closed her eyes, not wanting to see him. "Where's Leo? Where is he?"
Thinking of the kid first thing—that was Olivia.
Luca felt a wave of warmth, then bitterness. "Leo's asleep on the pull-out bed. He cried for a long time and wore himself out."
Olivia opened her eyes and looked at the bed. Seeing Leo's peaceful sleeping face, her tense nerves eased a bit, a hint of softness in her eyes.
Once she knew the kid was okay, she turned back to Luca, her gaze cold again. "Why are you still here?"
"I wanted to watch over you till you woke up." Luca's voice was low, with a plea. "The doctor said your health's bad, lung issues from before, and you went through hell giving birth. Why didn't you ever tell me?"
Her body stiffened just a tiny bit at that, then she gave a cold laugh. "My business— what does it have to do with you?"
"Of course it does!" Luca got worked up. "You're my kid's mom, my ex-wife. How could it not? Back then, you were pregnant with Leo, alone abroad, dealing with that fire, the birth pain—and I knew nothing. It's all my fault! If I hadn't sided with Windy and hurt you so bad, you wouldn't have gone through that!"
Olivia's eyes flickered, a mix of feelings rising inside, but coldness took over quickly.
"I don't want to talk about the past." Her tone was flat, like it was someone else's story. "I just want to heal up now, then take Leo and leave. I never want to see you again."
"No way!" Luca shot back. "I can't let you go! Leo's my son. I already missed five years of his life—I won't miss more! And your health's so bad, you need care. I'll take good care of you and Leo, make up for all these years."
"No need." Olivia turned him down flat. "I can handle myself and Leo. Don't need your fake kindness."
"It's not fake!" Luca got anxious. "I really want to make it up to you, really want to treat you right!"
"Really?" Olivia scoffed, eyes full of sarcasm. "When you sided with Windy back then, where was your 'really' for me? When I was suffering alone abroad, where was it? What's the point now? The damage is done. Can't fix it."
"I know I messed up before, but I'll change!" Luca looked at her, eyes full of determination. "I fired Windy from the company. She won't hurt you and Leo again. I'll get to the bottom of what happened back then and give you answers. I'll prove with actions that I've changed."
"No need." Olivia closed her eyes, done looking at him. "I don't want your answers or your make-up. We're done, Luca. I'll say it again: I'll take Leo and go. From now on, our paths don't cross. No more ties."
Luca stared at her stubborn face, his heart aching like it was cut by a knife.
He knew her wounds ran deep—wouldn't heal quick.
But he couldn't give up.
"I won't let you go." His voice was low and stubborn. "Unless you kill me, I won't let you take Leo away from me."
Olivia's eyes snapped open, glaring at him with fury. "Luca, don't push it! I fought for my life to have Leo, and raised him alone. He's my son—nothing to do with you! What right do you have to stop us?"
"Because I'm his real dad!" Luca raised his voice too. "I have the right to care for him, be in his life! You hid him from me back then. Now I know, and I won't let go!"
Their yelling woke up sleeping Leo.
The little guy rubbed his eyes, saw them fighting, jumped up, ran to Olivia, and hugged her arm. "Mom, don't fight."
Olivia saw her son awake and immediately toned down her anger. She stroked his head gently. "Baby, Mom's fine. Go back to sleep."
"Mom, I'm not sleeping. I'll stay with you." Leo clung tight to her arm, eyeing Luca warily. "Don't bully my mom."
Luca watched this, full of sadness. He softened his voice, pleading. "Leo, I'm not bullying Mom. I just want to take good care of you both."
"I don't want your care!" Leo shot back. "Go away—go now!"
Olivia looked at Luca too, voice icy. "You heard him. Leo doesn't want you here. Leave."
"I'm not leaving." Luca shook his head, firm as rock. "But I promise, I won't try to take Leo by force."
