Chapter 15 Windy's Defender
Windy froze for a moment before speaking up to defend herself. "Olivia, how could you say that about me? I know you don't like me and hate that I took your position and Luca's attention, but…" Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed, "Don't just pin the blame on me to avoid responsibility. I don't know anything about this!"
Before Olivia could respond, Windy stepped closer to Luca. "Luca, I've only been in this role for a week. I'm still getting used to things. There's no way I'd touch such important files, and I'd never do anything to harm you or the company!"
Just as Luca was about to say something, Olivia calmly pressed her point. "Saying these things now won't help. If you want everyone to believe you, show proof of your innocence like I did."
Windy turned to Luca for help, breathing heavily. "Luca, you know me. I wouldn't do this. Olivia just hates me so much that she's trying to shift the blame!"
"I'm only trying to find the mole. This has nothing to do with shifting blame. Windy, you're the one trying to stop the investigation!" Olivia shot back sharply.
Luca frowned, weighing their words.
Olivia crossed her arms calmly, as if she could already see through Windy's lies.
Luca, sounding a bit annoyed, said, "Olivia, you don't have any proof. Don't make wild guesses. Besides, Windy has no reason to do something like this."
Luca made his stance clear, standing firmly by Windy without a hint of hesitation.
Olivia's heart sank instantly.
He didn't believe her.
Even though she raised reasonable doubts, as soon as Windy shed a few tears, Luca still chose to side with her.
She should've known this would happen.
"Fine." Olivia forced a cold smile, tugging at the corner of her mouth. She opened her laptop and pulled up some file records. "This is my personal computer. All the activity logs are here."
She turned the screen toward everyone, showing a few edit record entries. "This is when the proposal was created and last saved. I submitted it to the project team at this exact time. This proves I'm not responsible, right?"
With the evidence laid out, the senior managers in the room looked serious.
Luca raised an eyebrow in surprise, clearly not expecting Olivia to be cleared of blame.
"I'm curious now," Olivia said with a cold smirk. "If the version I submitted was correct, why did the client receive the wrong one? My laptop is clean, so the problem might be inside the company."
Windy was stunned.
"Someone must have used their access to log into my company desktop after I sent the file, swapped it, and erased the traces," Olivia said, raising an eyebrow. "Luca, I remember you personally gave Windy a brand-new, top-of-the-line computer."
Luca nodded slightly, already guessing where she was going with this. His expression grew heavy.
"Since you believe Windy is innocent, let's have someone check my old desktop right now. Let's see if it was tampered with in the past week. If I'm wrong, it'll clear Windy's name."
Olivia's logic was sound, and even the managers who had doubted her earlier now looked impressed.
This former chief secretary was clearly very capable.
Luca was even more surprised. Olivia had worked by his side for so long, yet he'd never noticed her sharp, logical thinking.
Windy started to panic. She hadn't expected Olivia to avoid using the company desktop for the files! "Luca, I…"
Ignoring her, Luca directly ordered the IT director, "Pull up the activity logs for Olivia's old desktop immediately."
The IT director got to work right away, and the meeting room fell silent.
Olivia frowned uncomfortably, feeling a sharp pain in her lower abdomen. She quietly placed a hand under the table, pressing against her stomach, trying to endure the discomfort. She couldn't collapse here.
Soon, the IT director returned.
"Boss," he reported, "Olivia's old desktop was accessed the night before she left the company. The login was under her employee ID."
Everyone was shocked, and murmurs filled the meeting room.
"Someone used Olivia's ID to log into her computer late at night, tampered with the files, and wiped the traces!"
"Just like Olivia said, someone tried to frame her!"
"Who could it be? That's so sneaky!"
Windy's face turned pale, and her body swayed slightly.
Despite the pain in her abdomen, Olivia pushed on. "Check the security footage from that night. Let's see who used my computer at that time."
"No!" Windy suddenly interrupted, her eyes filled with panic. "Luca, you can't check the footage! That night, I…"
Luca stared at Windy, his gaze full of scrutiny. "Why can't we check it? Windy, did you do it?"
"No! I'm innocent, it's just…" Windy hesitated, standing on her tiptoes to whisper something in Luca's ear. After speaking, she started crying. "Luca, I'm begging you, don't check the footage!"
Olivia didn't understand what was going on and asked coldly, "If we don't check, how will we catch the mole? We have to. This is a major risk for the company!"
Luca didn't give an immediate order.
He knew checking the footage was the most straightforward way.
But Windy had just told him she had changed clothes in the office that night.
If everyone watched the footage together, wouldn't that expose her privacy?
The atmosphere in the meeting room grew awkward as people sensed something was off.
Olivia caught on to Luca's hesitation and said sarcastically, "You're not going to check, are you?"
The truth was right in front of them.
When she was under suspicion, Luca stayed silent.
Now that it was Windy's turn, he chose to drop the investigation!
Luca's tone suddenly softened. "Olivia, this has nothing to do with you anymore. The company wronged you, and I'll make it up to it. You don't need to be involved in handling this. You can leave."
"What do you mean?" Olivia clenched her fists tightly.
Windy let out a subtle sigh of relief, a faint smirk of defiance flashing across her face.
"Anyway, this doesn't concern you now," Luca said, patting Olivia's arm. "Go rest. You look really pale."
The pain in her abdomen was getting worse.
Olivia knew she was close to breaking down.
She leaned on the table for support, barely standing. "Luca, I'm not going to let someone frame me and just forgive the culprit. I'll inform the board. This needs to be fully investigated!"
Ignoring Luca's conflicted expression, Olivia turned and left.
As she stepped into the elevator, her vision blurred, and cold sweat dripped down her body.
She couldn't faint here. If she were taken to the hospital, her pregnancy would be exposed.
Gritting her teeth, Olivia stumbled out of the elevator and staggered out of the building.
Leaning against the roadside, she shakily pulled out her phone and dialed Jason's number.
Jason answered, "Olivia, what's wrong?"
Olivia's voice was weak. "Jason, I'm downstairs at the company. Help me…"
Before she could finish, everything went black, and she lost consciousness.
