Chapter 55 Are You Worthy?
The Campbell's clinic is open early in the morning.
Grant had accompanied Harper to the clinic to register and get her first comprehensive prenatal checkup.
All the way there, his face beamed with joy and pride as if he were a young man about to become a father for the first time.
After years of anticipation and being a son-in-law for over two decades, Grant was finally on the brink of having his own son. Naturally, he couldn't be more thrilled!
However, during the ultrasound, the doctor informed Grant that Harper had an ectopic pregnancy and needed an immediate abortion to save her life.
Grant was stunned. Before he could process the news, Harper was wheeled away from the ultrasound bed to the abortion room.
By the time Grant collected himself and followed, the doors of the abortion room had been firmly shut. No matter how hard he banged or shouted, no one inside would heed his cries.
The doors swung open in his most desperate moment, and a nurse walked out carrying a tray. On the tray was a bloody mass.
Seeing this, Grant lunged forward. Startled, the nurse dropped the tray with a clang, and the gruesome content rolled to Grant's feet.
He looked down, his eyes turning a bloodthirsty red, and screamed, "What is this? What is this?!"
"Grant, this is your son." A doctor approached, responding to Grant's anguished plea.
Grant lunged at the doctor like a madman, shouting, "You're murderers! This wasn't an ectopic pregnancy. Just over a month ago, the ultrasound showed Nicholas was developing normally inside the womb!"
"You killed my son! Give me back my son... give me back my son!"
"Security, security!" The doctor yelled.
Almost instantly, several security guards rushed over and quickly subdued the frantic Grant.
"Grant, here's the consent form for your partner's miscarriage surgery. It was indeed an ectopic pregnancy, and the surgery was performed only after your partner signed the consent," the doctor explained, showing the document to Grant after he was restrained.
"You murderers, I'll sue you, I'll sue all of you..." Grant continued to struggle and scream wildly, his bloodthirsty glare as if he wanted to tear the doctor apart.
The medical staff, somewhat frightened by this display, hurriedly instructed, "Get him out of here and call the police if he causes any more trouble."
"Got it," the guards nodded, and together they escorted Grant out of the hospital.
...
At the Johnson Group skyscraper, in the Public Relations Department.
Sophia started her day with an early morning coffee meeting with Kevin to discuss the recent activities of JD Group. Following that, she arrived promptly at the Johnson Group offices at nine o'clock. However, as soon as she stepped into her office, Freya followed closely behind.
"Sophia, you've really done it this time!"
Without closing the door, and in front of the entire department, an irate Freya blurted out, "Last night, you left everyone hanging when you were supposed to attend a dinner party for me. Do you realize..."
Slap!
Before Freya could finish her accusing tirade, Sophia, facing away from her, swung her hand and delivered a sharp slap to Freya's face, the sound echoing throughout the office.
Outside, everyone who heard the slap craned their necks to look into Sophia's office and was stunned to see that Sophia had slapped Freya.
"Sophia, you..."
"Freya, stop using those dirty tricks on me from now on."
Sophia cut her off again, her gaze piercing and icy as she stared down Freya, clearly not a woman to be trifled with. She wasn't naive; having been with Raymond last night, she certainly wasn't without a reaction afterward.
Piecing together the sparse memories before she slipped into a drugged stupor, she surmised that Freya had someone slip something into her drink.
The nature of that "something" was painfully obvious to anyone with half a brain.
Luckily, she had messaged Jacob in time to request his hangover remedy.
Had Jacob not arrived in time to whisk her away, her reputation could have been in tatters by now.
"What do you mean by dirty tricks? Sophia, you made a mistake and offended everyone, and now you're trying to spin it around on me? Are you taking revenge on me?" Freya snapped back after a brief moment of shock, her eyes blazing at Sophia.
"Revenge on you?" Sophia looked at her with a cold laugh. "Do you think you're worth it?"
"Sophia, don't be hypocritical here." Freya tried to contain her towering rage. "You've managed to alienate the heads of the major magazines we work with. I won't let this slide."
"Oh, really?" Sophia smirked slightly. "And what does Freya plan to do about it?"
"This is a serious matter, Sophia. I will..." Freya was cut off when Susan suddenly burst in, holding a stack of documents and an undisguised look of shock on her face.
"What's to look at?" Freya roared at her.
"You see, the six major media outlets that attended last night's Dinner Party have all sent us proposals for long-term collaboration, and we're free to use the front page headlines," Susan said, handing over the contracts with a look of amazement.
Freya, momentarily stunned, snatched the contracts from Susan's hands to take a look.
Instantly, she was dumbfounded, as were the employees who had gathered to watch the drama unfold.
Sophia glanced at the stack of contracts and was momentarily taken aback. Logically, even if she hadn't upset the magazine executives, they had no reason to offer them contracts proactively, let alone give free rein over front-page headlines.
There had to be a catch.
But no matter, she didn't care for these issues anymore. After all, in three weeks, she would be leaving Johnson Group.
"Freya, was there anything else?" Sophia raised her eyes, still wearing a teasing smile, and asked.
Regaining her composure but seething with anger, Freya tried to unleash her fury but couldn't find the right words.
"Since there's nothing else, please leave, Freya. I'm about to get busy," Sophia countered her angry and fierce gaze with a challenging raise of her eyebrows.
Freya gritted her teeth, casting Sophia a malevolent glare before reluctantly departing, having no other option.
