Chapter 057 Your Current Husband, Orlando
Langston had not lie. Two hours later, they met Vanessa and Little Six along the creek. Vanessa took a bag out of her rucksack and handed it over to them.
Adelina opened it to find two phones and a variety of identification cards, including social security cards, driver's licenses, college diplomas, professional qualifications, and even a marriage certificate!
But the photos on the documents took her by surprise—it was her and Langston!
"What's this?" she asked, looking at them, bewildered.
Langston explained, "These were prepared before we came here. The photos are the only fabrications. All other information is authentic. Inside, there's also a detailed account of their lives, which we should study later. From today onward and for the coming month, we'll live as these individuals."
"What does it mean to live as these individuals?" Adelina asked, clearly baffled.
Vanessa explained, "Miss Howard, once you leave this place, I will announce that Mr. Moore and you have both tragically perished. You will be gone, just like Parr, without a trace left behind."
Adelina turned sharply to Langston, "Mr. Moore, you mean to say you planned this from the beginning..."
By that time, Langston had already stashed the documents back in the bag, "That's right. Even if we didn't actually get into a dangerous situation, Vanessa would create one as per my instructions. This is how we draw the snake from its hole. You wanted to know who was so eager to see me dead, right? Well, I'm going to give them exactly that!"
Adelina took a deep breath, shocked to her core. She had never imagined Langston could be so ruthless as to use even her as a pawn in his schemes.
She was filled with a chilling sense of vulnerability, the realization of being a mere plaything for unseen powers wrapping around her like chains.
She dared not ponder what might have happened if Langston had chosen to abandon her from the start.
After the exchange, Vanessa had left them with a man known only as Six, who was holding a spray bottle. He thoroughly spritzed them with the contents, claiming it would erase their scents so effectively that not even the keenest bloodhound could pick up their trail.
The trio trudged up the unkempt road, shrouded by greenery, keeping out of sight to avoid unwanted attention.
At the peak of the hill, a military-green off-road vehicle awaited them.
The driver was decked out in black sunglasses and a baseball cap, his face almost entirely hidden. Yet, Adelina couldn't shake a certain familiarity about him.
"Mr. Orlando, please buckle up. We're not taking the highway but cutting through the woods. It could be a bumpy ride, so look after Miss Abbey," the driver instructed before setting off.
Mr. Orlando was the alias Langston currently used—Orlando. And Adelina was now Abbey. Both were newcomers to Harano City, married for two months, childless, and both part of the working class.
However, Adelina's focus was on the driver's voice.
"Parr?" With a hunch, Adelina ventured a guess.
The driver turned to face her, pulling down his mask to reveal his true features. It was indeed Parr!
Adelina gasped in surprise, her hands flying to cover her mouth, her eyes instantly wet with emotion.
Parr grinned. "You've got a good memory, Miss Abbey! But we're pressed for time, so no catching up now. If you're prone to motion sickness, take these pills and get some sleep."
He put his mask back on and floored the accelerator, the vehicle bolting through the narrow trails of the woods.
Terrified of getting carsick, Adelina promptly swallowed two motion sickness pills.
Soon, fatigue washed over her.
Langston reached out his hand just as her head began to droop, and she instinctively leaned on his shoulder, slipping into a deep slumber.
When she awoke, she found herself lying on a bed.
The furniture around her was somewhat dated, but the house felt spacious, the windows open, welcoming occasional gusts of breeze.
Sitting up in bed, Adelina scanned the room, then looked down at herself, taking in her new surroundings.
Clothes had been changed, and now she was wearing a very simple short-sleeve nightgown.
She got out of bed, stepped out of her room, and heard the sound of cooking from the kitchen.
The man's tall figure was turned away from her, apparently still wearing an apron, with rolled-up sleeves revealing half of his sturdy forearms, his movements appearing quite skilled.
She was somewhat surprised and called out to him, "Mr. Moore?"
The man turned around, revealing indeed the face of Langston.
He smiled and asked, "You're awake? Meals will be ready soon, just wait a bit!"
Adelina almost thought she was seeing things. The current CEO of Moore Corporation, a man born with a silver spoon, was actually cooking.
"Mr. Moore, let me do it!" She hurried over, snatching the spatula from his hand.
But he seemed to be frying small veal steaks, and she was a bit clueless about what to do next.
"That's alright, go take a shower, and it will all be ready when you are done."
Langston took back the spatula and then nodded toward another door adjacent to the kitchen, indicating the bathroom.
Ten minutes later, Adelina emerged, her hair still wet.
Langston had already set the table, even the bowls and eating utensils were ready.
"Where's Parr?" Adelina asked, puzzled.
Langston pulled out a chair for her to sit down, "Parr has another name now, called Van. You can call him Uncle Van. He lives downstairs ."
Adelina was still completely confused.
Langston served her some food and dished up some for himself as well, "From now on, whether we're outside or at home, you'll need to get used to calling me by my new name, not Mr. Moore! It's for safety reasons, understand?"
Adelina nodded earnestly. After experiencing this man's strong controlling desires, she knew better than to defy him.
"If you're going to act, go all out. So now that we're married, we'll naturally live together and even share the same bed. Don't think of yourself as Adelina anymore; you're Abbey, and your current husband is Orlando, me!"
Adelina's breath grew heavier. Except for this point, she was still able to accept the other changes.
"What about the real Abbey and Orlando? Where are they..." Since those two people actually existed before, where the yare now?
Langston waved off Adelina's concern with a dismissive gesture. "You don't need to worry about that! Just remember that for now, we are them, and they are us. And for this month, we're going to live just like they would—right up until the bid for the project in Harano City is over!"
Adelina was silent for a long moment before she slowly nodded in understanding. "Got it, Moore... no, Langston..."
Seeing her struggle to say his name, Langston leaned in and suggested, "You should call me Honey. It feels odd to hear you call someone else by name."
Adelina remained speechless.
Langston added quickly, "Better get used to your new Husband, that's me. By the way, I was the one who carried you upstairs today and changed your clothes. We've been quite open with each other many times already, so there's nothing left to hide, alright?"
Adelina was in shock.
