Chapter 048 Clinging to Mr. Moore
Caught off guard by the question, Adelina barely had time to react.
Langston's gaze swept over, and his look of inquiry deepened when he saw her.
Adelina then nodded. "Indeed, I've partnered with Waite before, and I trust his skills. Ms. Watson, I honestly had no idea he was actually your younger brother."
Waite was quite a notable figure at Glorious University, often spoken of as a son of a wealthy family, but nobody expected him to be a Watson—one of the prominent wealthy families of Shadewood City. After all, there were many with the surname Watson.
Katherine was now looking at her brother with a teasing sparkle in her eyes. "Oh, it just came to me. You often talked about that gorgeous senior at your school. That's Adelina, right? I even encouraged you to pursue her!"
Waite's face turned even redder. He shot an annoyed look at his sister, who had just outed his esteem, and then, pushing his luggage, he moved to a spot next to Adelina. "Adelina, can you fill me in on some details about the place we're going to today? Just so I'm prepared. We won't want my sister to think we're going on a vacation!"
Perhaps it was because they knew each other, but Adelina found conversing with him quite effortless.
So, she briefed him on the situation at the mountain top in Harano City.
Waite listened intently, leaning in now and then to ask questions he deemed important.
Langston, casually sipping coffee, listened in discreetly.
His gaze occasionally swept over the two, noting that Waite maintained a respectful distance throughout the entire conversation, without any overly intimate gestures.
However, Waite's admiration for Adelina was all too evident, something that inexplicably irked Langston.
After about thirty minutes, everyone had arrived, and Adelina and Waite concluded their conversation, following the group toward the boarding gate.
Langston led the way, with Katherine trailing close behind but at a calculated distance. Waite was at the back, helping his sister with her luggage and not forgetting to assist Adelina as well.
Vanessa's invited geologist was also in the group, along with seven tall bodyguards, responsible for carrying the larger luggage and items.
Alan brought along an assistant, someone he trusted dearly, named Ward.
The group passed through security with a grand presence, capturing many envious glances.
"Isn't that Moore, the CEO of Moore Corporation, and the heiress of Watson Enterprises? Why are they together?"
"Are the Moore family and Watson family planning to unite through marriage?"
"Miss Watson is so beautiful, and she's such a good match for Mr. Moore; a merger wouldn't be out of the question!"
"Are they going on vacation together? Such a handsome man and a beautiful woman standing together is truly a sight for sore eyes!"
Adelina deliberately lingered at the back of the crowd, dressed in simple casual wear, which meant she went unnoticed.
Only Waite kept looking back at her, worried she couldn't keep up, and eventually decided to slow down to walk with her.
Katherine glanced at them and offhandedly said to Langston, "It looks like my brother really likes Adelina; he's never been this proactive with any girl before. Adelina is the first."
At that moment, Langston's gaze also shifted in their direction. Just then, a group of students from an educational tour passed by. Waite, to prevent the students from bumping into Adelina, extended an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close to his side.
His eyes darkened in that instant, but his face remained as calm as still water, and no one could tell what he was thinking.
Katherine observed him covertly several times, even tentatively hooking her arm through his. Seeing he didn't pull away, she smiled slightly and held on tighter.
Adelina unintentionally glanced in their direction, catching the sight of Katherine clinging to Langston. If it weren't for Langston's outdoor clothing clashing with Katherine's glamorous red dress, they could have appeared to Adelina as a couple made in heaven.
Waite mocked from behind, "My sister tells me off, yet she's the one who can't wait to cling to Mr. Moore."
Adelina chuckled awkwardly. "If Mr. Moore doesn't push her away, it means he's willing."
Waite raised an eyebrow in surprise, "So, you think they could actually be a match?"
Adelina remembered Ileana's words. "In Shadewood City, apart from the dearly departed youngest of the Ward family, who else but our Watson heiress is worthy of Mr. Moore, right?"
However, Waite seemed somewhat melancholic. "Adelina, is social ranking really that important to you? If it were me, the first thing I'd consider is whether I like her, not whether she's a worthy match for me."
Adelina sighed with a meaningful undertone as she spoke, "That's just what you think. It doesn't mean everyone else feels the same. Right now, you might be carefree, believing that affection is what matters most between two people. But over time, the issues you've disregarded will start to emerge. They'll grow more significant as your feelings fade, occupying a larger place in your life."
Waite's brow furrowed, but he fell silent only for a moment before smiling again. "I don't know about others, but I'm different. Let's go, they're all waiting for us."
Adelina nodded, choosing not to delve further into the heavy topic.
Once on the plane, Adelina realized they weren't on a regular commercial flight, but rather Langston's private jet decked out with a lounge, a bar, an office, an entertainment room, a dining area, and a rest cabin.
Langston headed straight to the rest cabin, located at the very back of the plane.
A flight attendant emerged to greet everyone, "Feel free to sit anywhere in the lounge area, each seat is equipped with a seatbelt. Please ensure they are fastened during takeoff and landing. Once we reach cruising altitude, you're free to move about, and the dining area offers a variety of snacks and beverages for your enjoyment."
Adelina took a seat on a chair by the window in the lounge.
Waite unabashedly took the seat next to her, while others found their places. However, the bodyguard was seated at an employee spot at the end of the cabin, away from the rest.
The plane started its slow taxi to the runway.
After reaching cruising altitude, Vanessa was the first to unbuckle her seatbelt and made her way to the back office with a geological expert.
Alan headed to the bar.
Katherine called over a flight attendant and asked, "Is Mr. Moore in the rest cabin?"
The flight attendant nodded. "Yes, but Mr. Moore instructed that no one is to enter without his permission. If Miss Watson has something urgent, I can relay the message for you."
Katherine quickly waved her hands. "No, it's nothing. I was just asking. Please let me know when Mr. Moore is available."
"Sure," the flight attendant responded with a smile before walking away.
Adelina was trying to rest, her eyelids heavy from waking up early.
Just as she was about to fall asleep, she was gently shaken awake.
Opening her eyes, she saw the flight attendant who spoke with Katherine holding a tray with a steaming cup of coffee on it.
"Good morning, Miss Howard. Mr. Moore asked you to bring this cup of coffee to him, and could you please bring the laptop as well? He has some work matters to discuss with you."
Hearing that it was work-related, Adelina became mostly awake.
Next to her, Waite, who was also taking a brief rest, opened his eyes and looked sympathetically at Adelina. "Does Mr. Moore always keep himself this busy, not even taking a break during flights?"
Adelina gave him a helpless look.
Arriving at the entrance of the lounge, the door opened automatically. She peeked inside and saw Langston sitting at his makeshift office desk, working on a laptop.
Carrying a cup of coffee, she walked over to him.
Just as she was about to reach him, the plane suddenly hit a strong patch of turbulence.
She lost her balance, and the coffee in her cup started to spill out.
In the blink of an eye, both Adelina and the coffee crashed onto Langston.
