Chapter 046 You Should Convince Her Not to Miss Out on Me!
The elevator slowly descended.
Adelina made an effort to keep her distance from Langston, which also allowed her to be closer to Uncle Miller.
"Mr. Moore, if you hear anything about the dog, please let me know. Or, you can tell Adelina. After all, they are husband and wife," Uncle Miller hesitated before finally managing to remind him.
Langston was busy typing a message on his phone but responded with a calm demeanor, "Rest assured, Miller, Adelina will be the first to know."
Uncle Miller's gaze shifted toward Adelina, filled with complexity, as if he was on the verge of saying more.
Adelina felt compelled to explain, "Uncle Miller, actually, it was me who first asked Mr. Moore to help find Mr. Miller's whereabouts."
"You did?" Uncle Miller was slightly taken aback and after a moment his expression cleared, looking at her with even more guilt. "Adelina, you are really..."
Adelina took his arm. "It's okay, I should do this. As long as he comes back safe!"
Uncle Miller seemed somewhat dejected, letting out a heavy sigh. "Ah, he's not good enough for you!"
The elevator then fell into a brief silence.
Once they reached the first floor, the elevator doors slid open and Uncle Miller turned to ask Adelina, "How will you get back? Do you need a lift? I brought my electric scooter; it can fit two."
Adelina pressed her lips together, saying nothing. It was Langston who answered for her, "I'll take her back, she still has plenty of stuff in my car."
Both Uncle Miller and Adelina were speechless.
Some things, when explained, become even more superfluous. Even Adelina herself couldn't clarify it all.
Uncle Miller gave a knowing chuckle. "Heh, all right then, I'll head out! Mr. Moore, Adelina, make sure to come by the store for a meal sometime!"
Saying this, he waved his hand cheerfully and stepped out.
The elevator continued its descent, finally reaching the underground parking.
Adelina, silent all the while, followed Langston to where the car was parked. Unexpectedly, he spoke up, "Want to go out for a bit? Don't you still owe me a birthday present? We're going on a business trip tomorrow, and it's not clear when we'll be back. If you don't go out tonight, those three days will slip by."
Adelina internally screamed, thinking she was moments away from escaping his oppressive control.
Now, it seemed, she was about to embark on a shopping trip with him.
She rifled through her mind for something decent to gift him but came up empty-handed.
"Well then, okay," she replied reluctantly and slid into the car.
Langston drove toward Moore Corporation's shopping mall—Maya International.
Just as he was about to park, Adelina suddenly spoke up, "Mr. Moore, could we... not shop here?" The price tags in Maya International were beyond her modest budget.
Langston turned to her. "Do you have another store in mind"
She thought of a small alley behind Glorious University that she frequented. "Uh, I usually hang out near the school, and I know that area well. So... can we shop there?"
After saying this, she worried that he might find the offerings there beneath his standards, considering even his most casual accessory could be worth a fortune.
However, Langston had no objections and quickly made a U-turn, heading out again.
Behind Glorious University was a back street.
Because the car couldn't enter, Langston parked along the roadside, and they walked into the alleyway.
On both sides were distinctive, old-world buildings, featuring a variety of shops that attracted countless students, especially couples who could be seen every few feet.
Adelina and Langston maintained a slight distance walking one after the other, but due to the crowd, they never fell too far apart.
In a handmade jewelry shop, Adelina picked up a wooden bracelet.
It featured Redwood beads interspersed with a piece of transparent amber, quite exquisite.
The lady boss came over, glanced at Adelina and the attention-grabbing Langston behind her, and asked with a smile, "Are you shopping for your boyfriend? The Redwood bracelet suits older gentlemen and carries health benefits. However, a Rosewood or Padauk bracelet might be more fitting for your boyfriend! Luxurious yet understated!”
Adelina flinched and quickly denied, "No, it's not for my boyfriend, it's for..."
But before she could finish, Langston had already picked up a Padauk bracelet and asked, "How much for this?"
The lady boss laughed, seeing his choice. "Sir, you've got great taste. This Padauk bracelet is the finest quality we offer, and it really matches your aura! Are you just starting out in your career? Let's call it a lucky deal, 580 for you!"
Langston stood out in his business suit, a stark contrast to the student clientele.
It was natural for the lady boss to see him as an outsider.
She even quoted him a raised price.
Langston was unaware, but Adelina knew exactly what was going on.
"Boss, he's still in grad school, just interning at the company! I'm an intern too, haven't even graduated! 580 is too pricey, how about 300?" Adelina felt that since Langston had asked, he must have taken a fancy to it.
So, she started to haggle directly with the store owner.
The store owner exclaimed in shock, "Young lady! How can you decrease that much at once?! You've cut it in half! This is purpleheart wood, very valuable, you know!"
Adelina had never haggled before, but since her father's bankruptcy, she found herself with no choice but to do so. "I truly am a student at Glorious University, do you want to see my student ID? I really haven't graduated! I only bargained because I saw this bracelet and sincerely wanted it. If you think my offer is too low, then I'll sadly have to walk away without buying it."
Saying this, she tugged on Langston's arm, pretending they were about to leave.
Langston watched her with confusion yet a sense of novelty; to be honest, he hadn't expected her to make such a bold move.
In his mind, a 580 bracelet was an entirely normal price, even quite a bargain.
However, Adelina firmly took the bracelet out of his hand and pulled him toward the store's exit.
"Hey, hey, hey! All right, all right!" Suddenly, the store owner called out. "It's a deal! Young lady, come on back!"
Adelina immediately stopped, turned around, and asked, "For 300?"
The store owner's smile was strained as she conceded, "Yes, 300!"
Adelina was elated. She couldn't believe she had secured his birthday gift so quickly and at an acceptable price.
Once Adelina had paid, the store owner couldn't help but praise Langston as he tried on the bracelet, "Young man, this lady is quite skilled! She managed to negotiate the price of this bracelet so low! But I was willing to sell it to you because it seems specifically suited to your quality. A good bracelet must find a proper owner!"
Langston just smiled slightly at the compliment.
Then, the store owner whispered a few extra words, "She took the initiative to buy something for you; is she pursuing you? She seems to be quite good at managing money! You should just accept her offer! Don't let the girl waste her 300; you might miss out on this one and not find anything like it again!"
This time, Langston did respond, but with a laugh. "I think you've got it backward. You should be advising her not to miss out on me!"
