Chapter 36

Chapter 36
The twins shared a glance then both shot a hard glare at Jackson and snarled in unison, "You do not get to speak of your Luna in that tone. You will address her with respect in your voice or not at all."
"I find it funny that you two mate her then suddenly you're her lap dogs and doing whatever she says." Jackson snarled back at them.
"Just because you started receiving push back from us when we mated her, does not mean that we are doing what she says just because she always pushed back against you." Toby snarled at his father.
"We just stopped hiding our dislike of how you run the pack. We haven't needed to gather any further evidence from you for a long time. But if we started pushing back against you in any way it would have put this pack in jeopardy. Plus, in an Alpha challenge we suspected the power would have tried to come to both of us, even if only one of us challenged you. We knew the pack would have a hard time accepting that. But with this mating bond, the pack is now willing to be open minded about having two Alphas." Jarold further explained, making a conscious effort to calm his town down and break the tension.
"So, you're telling me that you were always going to challenge me?" Jackson asked, his tone clearly shocked.
"Publicly or privately, this was always going to happen. We would not have allowed things to get so far as what you were wanting to take it. It puts a lot of innocent wolves' lives in danger for absolutely no reason. There is no reason to have a king of wolves. These packs operate perfectly fine with Alphas. No one is trying to blow anything up and take over anyone else's territories. What squabbles there are have been handled relatively peaceful and resolutions come without unnecessary violence." Toby answered calmly.
"This power grab you were trying to do will only result in unnecessary bloodshed for everyone. We're talking about generations of war from what you were trying to do." Jarold said.
"Is it a crime to want more for your family than what we currently have?" Jackson demanded, his tone full of disbelief that his sons have such little ambition.
"The real question you need to ask yourself is why is Alpha of the pack not enough for you. Look at you. Since you were ungrateful and got too greedy, you now can't even have that affirmation. This family has always had enough and the whole time we were growing up, we thought what we had was better than good enough. Then you went and challenged Lincoln for Alpha and won that. Which was great. We rose in position in the pack, with you being the first Alpha in our line. But then we found out why you did that. It wasn't because you thought Lincoln was an unfit Alpha. No, it was because Lincoln wouldn't go along with your plans and lead the pack to its destruction." Toby said.
"We could go back and forth about this forever. But we will not engage in some senseless species war to banish Alphas and put in a king to rule over all wolves. So, you can fall in line in this pack and be a productive member of our society or you can be put on trial for treason. That choice remains up to you." Jarold said.
"But let us catch one whiff of a rebellion starting from anywhere, you'll find yourself arrested and put on trial. There are no whispers of anything as of right now. We start catching wind of it we will know where it stemmed from and we'll handle the source directly. Father or not." Toby added firmly.
"Is that a threat?" Jackson asked in a menacing tone.
"No threat. That is simply informing you of future consequences. Make good choices and you won't have anything to worry about. We might even convince our mate to let you be a grandfather. Bring your head out of the clouds and peacefully rejoin this family, or don't and face the consequences of those decisions. Those are the two paths you have in front of you. We can't force you to choose the right path. But we will handle either path you choose." Jarold said and stood from the couch at the same time as Toby.
"I'm afraid you have used up our available time for this meeting. You have some things to think about, and we have a gathering to arrange. You'll be present here by 5 this evening and be by our side as we announce the transfer of leadership. Any questions or concerns you have about our plans can be given to us privately after the announcement." Toby said then gestured toward the door.
The command of the Alpha settled into Jackson and Toby and Jarold both inwardly grinned as they seen him stiffen. Let him get used to the commands of the Alphas for a change. They want to be like Lincoln who made a very specific point to rarely give commands to the wolves. He had always been very careful how he phrased things so that his pack could have a measure of free will. The twins planned on operating similarly with all the wolves. Their father, however, may be the exception if he chooses to push back on them. They'd order his complete cooperation if it meant the safety of the pack. It wasn't like Jackson had any issues ordering them and Kathrine around to complete his own selfish agendas. Turnabout and all that.
